1. kashiwa and satou only meet directly once in the novel. she actually calls him suddenly after getting his phone number from his mother, and arranges a meeting with him. it's almost the same as her first appearance in both but when he asks her what she's doing, she tells him she's getting married and that she's pregnant. this eventually leads to the scene in one of the chapters about her asking about having an affair, since she only had sex with him once back in high school. just like the manga, satou asks her if she's happy and takes his leave, while mentioning that she might have been crying.

2. misaki's reasons for being attached to satou are different from the manga, but it looks like the anime might be using the novel version of her instead. similar to volume 4 but also very different.

3. satou actually gets a brief job.

4. yamazaki almost finishes the game using satou's plot before he leaves. it sucks.

5. misaki goes to college. yamazaki gets married. kashiwa is happily married. satou is still stuck in his room.

Holy shit. Has the novel ended already?

That seems like a tragedy of massive proportions. I might want to put this series down after all...

for once, it actually ends on a pretty good note. which is scary. because i have a feeling this is just going to hurt later on.

Spoiler:

satou starts walking back home muttering about having an affair when he meets kashiwa on the way. he starts to run away but she drags him back and then he admits the whole truth about what happened since he ran away. he asks her for money to get on a train, and she responds by asking him where he's going; apparently she'll let him stay.

the following night she wakes up, looks at a sleeping satou, and remembers telling him about how she got dumped after her first date when she started pestering the guy about what he's going to do after college. she complains about how irresponsible men are while satou counters that it was her fault for expecting that much and that all men just want sex and don't care about the rest. she asks him if he's like that, he hesitates and replies yes. some time later, she catches satou rejecting another girl's confession. in the present, she notes that he's too serious about weird stuff like that and decides that she's going to help him.

the next few days, kashiwa gets satou to work out with her, claiming that she needs him to be her training partner, otherwise she's going to go nutty. this goes ok for a while, until satou reads her diary while she's away and gets the impression that she's keeping him as a pet (just like misaki did). kashiwa comes back and he barges out declaring he no longer wants to see her again.

she catches up with him and says that she really needed his help because she has to become stronger. satou asks her why since she's married, and she tells him that she ruined it because she was too focused on herself to understand her husband. so she says she needs him to become stronger and then embraces him. she continues on and say she'll make him stronger too.

satou thinks that once he recovers, she'll disappear. kashiwa thinks that if satou recoveres, the warmth she's feeling will disappear. but both of them (apparently) decide not to hold the other down by keeping satou the way he is. they smile at each other as they choose to help each other recover. or something.

the takimoto comment on the last page is something like:
"uh satou, you don't need misaki-chan anymore?"

should we be worried?

I'd say that given the trend that the manga has gone through and given the novel's direction, we should probably be worried. Somehow I don't know if things will ever be right for Satou again.

The manga has already been done with the materials of the novel by volume 4.

They are heading for uncharted waters now. But under ther supervison of Takimoto, I believe the manga is in safe hands.

So you mean the novel has already ended? Ah, I didn't know that the original creator was working on the manga as well. At least it's in "authentic" hands.. I guess I'll stick with the series a while longer : )

Who cares about Misaki? (duh, who am I kidding, I've never read a manga where an older woman wins over the young fresh one...Satou will probably end with her).

You know.. it might be evil in some way of me saying this, but looking at those pages really brighten my heart..

Since the beginning, i also could tell that deep down.. Kashiwa's feelings towards Satou were more then just anything else, and that they always stayed with her.. pretty much same goes for Satou. Though that scene right there in the manga has really.. really made my day to see Kashiwa like that.

What are misaki's reasons in the novel and in the manga? I don't even know her reason for the anime. Someone explain all three?
