Since Kakuzu and Hidan came to the Fire Country looking for a tailed beast (in chapter 313 they didn't say it was Naruto or the nine tails) its possible that the 'king' is another tailed beast in the Fire Country. Since this tail beast is important it is most likely to be either the leader of the 12 guard ninjas, or the Lord of the Fire Country.

It's probably just Naruto, how else would you get that kind of reaction from Shikamaru?

The reason I say his is because, in the recent Manga chapter's Asuma was reminiscing the death of the 3rd while saying to him self "I Finally Understand" If i remember correctly the 3rd was always talking about loving/protecting the people of the village because they are his "Family".

He also says HE, him self is a sacrificial peice, and Shika is a Knight! (Put the game and RL together) you get "protector's" of what? The King.

The King can't be Hokage/is Not, Asuma already mentioned that to Shika when Shika guessed if it was the Hokage. (Asuma used to think it was) so that only leaves these options.

People Important To You
Your Family, Your loved ones (Wife, G/F)
People you Want To Protect
(The last 3 could be put together)

So, it sort of makes sence because... Whats a Hokage without his Villege and His People? Goodbye Village and Its People = -> Goodbye Hokage = -> Goodbye Ninjas (Asuma, Shika, Sacrificial Peice, Knight) -> Nothing.

I'm going have to go with this. This is what I was thinking and it would go in line with the general theme that has been there with the series from the beginning. That an I think it also strengthens his connection with the 3rd more.

it might be the people of the village or naruto (kyuubi) because if akatsuki gets their hands on him everything will be destroyed because they will make their own village

I was thinking the same thing. Shikamaru says it to his dad when they are playing Shougi after the whole Hidan/Kakuzu arc has come to a close.
