2. Uhh.. no.. even if I were to take the time I spent on the computer and replace it with something else.. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be anything physically demanding. And what exactly does social life have to do with physical activity. And.. No I don't think I have any decrees in social life. What?! am I suppose to call someone every 3 minutes to start some useless and pointless discussion.. or what ?! 3. Nope. but It's true that I usually give higher priority to obligations from work/school that have something to do with the net.. But, that's just because I find them easier to do.. 4. Nope. In general I spend very little. Anyway, what exactly are you referring to when you say computer equipment? 5. Strange, that's somewhat opposite to how I feel.. I like going to places without computers or modern sophisticated technology. 6. Uhh no.. But I don't understand why that's a problem.. that's one of the few reasons I go online, to relax.. what's wrong with that ? 7. Heh.. first of all what exactly are the physical consequences? As far as I know most of the so called dangers of being in front of a computer are just superstition. Secondly, there are no emotional consequences, you have to be somewhat sick to begin with. And if you were somewhat "sick" unless you just visit manga/anime sites and participate in mindless discussions.. were people started from some simple jokes and evolved into some kind of religious sect.. then there's nothing to worry about. 8. That is just bullshit.. it's like saying that one of the symptoms of being a serial killer is "Denial of the problem.". Which basically means that everyone is a serial killer.. If they deny it then they are if they admit it then the are one as well..

I think it is meant differently. If you actually have the problem (precondition) and you deny it, then you're most likely addicted. Unfortunately one need not even deny the problem. If one is perfectly aware of it, it doesn't make this person less addicted imo. Just more indifferent.

I spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 hours a day in front of a computer (because of my job and classwork, and various entertaining things on the net).
Looking at the OP's criteria, I'd say I've only got number 7. I am aware of the consequences of my actions, but I disregard them. The wikipedia internet addiction disorder article is an interesting read, with more emphasis on not being in control of your behavior and things like withdrawal and tolerance-building. I don't think the internet, per se, has the type of reward effect necessary to justify calling it an addiction. "Internet addiction" is more like a syndrome, a collection of antisocial and self-destructive behaviors which point in the general direction of the phenomenon of the internet as a possible cause. But really, I think there's a lot of other probable causes for it that run a lot deeper than the web itself -- pervasive social phenomena that are changing the face of social interaction probably drive this carriage. |

If your job is the "internet" then you have a good excuse for being in front of your computer all the time. People like us (meaning the AS guys/gals) we are just bored and we're here for entertainment.

1. Lying about how much time is spent online. Nope proud of it.
2. General decrease of physical activity and social life. Yes sir. 3. Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time online. Kinda, not to a point where it is bad. 4. Spending too much money on computer equipment or Internet activities. nope 5. Feeling a constant desire to be online when they're away from the computer. Yes 6. Going online to escape real world problems. Nope. That is what novels are for ^^ 7. Disregarding the emotional or physical consequences of being in front of a computer all day. Probably a yes. 8. Denial of the problem. nope |

the thing is... I'ld love to socialize with other people who are addicted to the internet (we'ld most likely have alot in common)...but we're both too busy being addicted to the internet to socialize so we end up being even more addicted to the internet for lack of social contact. it's like a vicious circle.
