Like most (all) light novel, they have a (monthly) serialization in a magazine before being published as a book.

Well my friends and me have decided to translate "Fmp: BOMF". This is only the prologue. So its really short. Just thought I'd give you guys something to knaw on in the mean time.

Really good job! I like how well it flows together, your editor knows what she's doing. Heh, you should turn this into something similar to the Haruhi novel translations, where it started off as only a couple people but eventually spiralled into what it is now (at Boku-tachi). Can't wait to read more from you guys, you're like a godsend to people like me who just don't have that much patience.

I'm just an impatient girl that couldn't take the wait any longer and snaped- *cough* I mean, took control. I'm glad to hear that it does flow smoothly. That was the one thing I was worrying about.

I can't really see us expanding like that, but *shrugs* you never know.

Oh I'll keep fighting, and I'll win. I'm pretty stubborn like that. I'm happy you liked it, I was worried it would seem too choppy. But Phoenixdown (aka Jeannie) is my personal goddess and saved me from pulling all my hair out cuz of the damn grammar.

I'll tell you one thing though. When I was tranlating the first part, I was really confused. I was like...."Huh? What the hell is going on!" It wasn't until I got to the last page of the prologue that I understood why it was so messed up (I wont go into detail, you'll just have to read it )

well, the novels always get published monthly by chapters(usually 10 chapters or more) in dragon magazine before they finally get published in it's own light novel. it's always has been this way.

So what does this all mean? Well I think your translation was pretty much the same as the two webpages. The main difference was word choice. Yet IMO it was the word choice that lead to some readers in the thread thinking Gatou was trying to be humorus. Why? Well it is because you used the word "like" vs "love" or "delightful"

While technically "like" can be used for "love" or "delightful" the truth is that in everyday U.S. English usage "like" means something a lot less meaningful than "love" or "delightful" does. So using like the way you did in your translation made several readers confused and wondering if what was being said was meant to be humorus or just what was trying to be said by the writer

Anyway, I very much appreciate your translations. I'm sorry this month translation has caused such a ruckus. It isn't your fault. I believe the problem has been that for some of us trying to figure out why Gatou is stringing stuff on one more novel and then most likely ending it. I know I can't quite figure out where he thinks he's going with this and it is bugging me. Still, it isn't a huge deal with me so I'm not really that upset over it in the long run .

I know I must be bringing up something old and probably people after this post brought it up but just in case, I'll say my piece.

Ok the translation's great but one thing you forgot to mention. Sousuke says "Aishiteru" after he says "me too". That means "I love you". So, he doesn't just say "me too". What Kaname said was "daisuki" which means "I like you very much" and can also be used as "I love you" but aishiteru or rather aisuru is definitely used as "I love you". So, he didn't just say "Yeah me too".

Either way, it's a convo that makes me all tingly inside =D

very perceptive of the translation. thats true what u said about "daisuki" but it is mostly of not only used to say i love you. so there is no doubt they said they love each other. makes me get goose bumps as well now that they finally, FINALLY said what they truly feel. gatoh really knows how to draw out the suspension. :P
