It was a lesson that every child had heard at least once in their youth, yet hardly heeded.

“I guess this is gonna be a pretty bleak memory after all.” The speaker, despite her words, sounded more dissatisfied than anything else; though the monotony was still present in her voice. “Maybe I should have milked it out a bit more? Probably would have given me better results than this.”

With as much enthusiasm as one has clipping their toenails, she proceeded to wipe away the blotch of dark red liquid from her fingers on her jeans as she walked. Like the rest of the area, it was vacant of any signs of life, but not for the same reasons one would expect. It did have some life, the blaring lights of the two squad cars could tell anyone that much.

“I wonder if we could salvage one of these…” Having approached one of the vehicles and sidestepping a few obstacles laying on the road, she gave the cars a good once over before clicking her tongue. “Tsk, not worth it; those idiots would probably overlook the trackers on them anyway.”

Adjusting the sling on her shoulder, the young woman retrieved her phone before dialing an all too familiar number to her. A few rings later, the line connected and a swift response soon followed.

“I didn’t get a call yet, so I’m assuming you’re both forfeiting an eye once this is over.” Said the woman matter-of-factly, her expression sober as she leaned against the patrol vehicle. “Where are these rats heading off to now?”

The long-winded and, mostly, predictable response the person gave only succeeded in making the girl roll her eyes. Typical Shougo, trying to save his own ass when he was backed into a corner without an escape route set in mind. Anyone would of course do that, but it was less forgivable when it’s done by the same person time after time.
She still got her answer, regardless.

“So they’re heading for the public trams in D-Sec huh?” Sparing the area a once over for indications that would assist her, she found what she was looking for and smiled. “Alright, in that case, I’ll give you one last chance. If you take them out before I do, I’ll settle for a few fingers instead.”

Judging by his interruptive response, the suggestion wasn’t much to Shougo’s liking; not that he had much say in the matter.

“Oi, Shougo, I wasn’t finished you sniveling little shit! I was about to say that, if I kill them, you forfeit both your eyes instead of just one.”

His retorts of unfairness, though warranted, went largely unheard by the woman; as did most things when it concerned the teen and his complaints. Shougo considered it unreasonable, but in her mind it was far from that. Taking into consideration how long this supposedly easy matter was taking to get resolved, her frustration was justified to a point.

Reprimands needed to be distributed as a result of this embarrassing display of inadequacy. This level of incompetence here was too staggering not to imply some sort of punishment. Sure, she could accept a few hiccups and mistakes, as she was aware that nothing or nobody was without flaws. But this, this embarrassing spectacle she was now stuck dealing with would not be forgotten.

Not by her and, when this was over, most certainly not by either of her overseers either.

“All you’re doing at this point is annoying me, when what you should be doing is dealing with this fucking mess you’ve made. You should be happy that I’m being generous enough to give you this chance; anyone else wouldn’t get the same kinda treatment from me.”

Even the cowardly Shougo had to admit there was some level of truth in that. Even if he didn’t voice it, she knew that her words had an impact on him. Though, if she were to guess, he would be grinding his teeth right about now.

“If you have a problem with this new arrangement, then start looking for a place I don’t know about to hide after we’re done here.”

And with a push of a button, the call was over long before Shougo could utter a single syllable. There was no doubt in her mind that the teen was furious, though not furious enough to voice his disdain directly at her. She knew he did it even without anyone telling her and, for the most part, she allowed him to do so.

Having a coward was better than having a suck-up in her eyes. Shougo was at least smart enough to be of use and wise enough not to ever try and cross her.

Pushing the subject aside, the woman re-evaluated her current location to determine the fastest route to her destination. From what she had seen, most of the roads were deserted thanks to the ‘bombing’ incident that occurred not long ago. Mainly it was the sections of the district closest to the incident that were deserted save for Anti-Skill and her own men.
That being said, the woman known as Queen had assessed what course of action she should take.

“Hn, might as well make it a night to remember.”

Only error I can see is 'bares' instead of bears.

I can't see anything wrong with how it's constructed or anything, it feels pretty normal to me. Perhaps it was just the spelling mistake throwing you off. I'd keep it as is, fixing the spelling error and seeing if that helps you feel better about it.

Furaiz: Thanks for giving me the feedback I requested. Sorry I neglected to thank you sooner, but I kinda got back into my groove afterwards. I didn't wanna lose my train of thought, and now the chapter is pretty close to completion.

Anyways, on with the new question that popped up in my head just now.

I've already mentioned before, but somewhere down the road Kakine and Touma will end up fighting each other. In that fight, Kakine cuts off IB, and thus getting exposed to IT in the process. Now, my question being is this.

Would it be strange to anyone if Kakine's Dark Matter was exploited by IT and do something similar to what happened with Izzard? To me it feels like the same kinda scene, only with a Science Side character instead of a Magic Side one.

^I don't think it would be strange since we have no idea what IT is or how it works up to this point in the series. So until Kamachi explains what IT is anything is possible.

The wounded Othnus is faced with the younger self of the man who challenged her for the world. In her arms, the right hand of the man that challenged her for the world. When these forces meet, a new direction begins to flow.

I think you should change "passed it" to "past it." In the first sentence, you'd say evaluate not evaluated, and change tended to tend, and change could to can. Also change was to is in the second sentence. You should try maintain the same tense throughout the part, because it varies between present/past. Regardless, I like it what you wrote content-wise. There are some other missing commas here and there, but I do appreciate what you wrote!

@demino_hellsin that's an interesting idea, though I don't know how I feel about Othinus still actually having IB or are you saying this would be before he acquired IB?

Though the potential is not only in rewrite. This mechanism can be used for xovers as well.

For example. What if Othinus recreated the world. But her wound took its toll at the worst time. The one thing Othinus desperately held on to recreating properly was Touma. So the world ended up randomly rebuilt and Touma completely rebuilt to the original spec. One such world would be the world of Campione.

It's fun imagining Touma dual wielding Imagine Breakers and the Invisible thing in mortal combat against beings dimensions above him in natural spec.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this wrong, but your chapter has Accelerator's hair color being inconsistent - in the same section you've described it as both white and black. Apart from that though it looks interesting

Since there can only be ONE Imagine Breaker in existence at a time, the newly arrived Touma into that universe loses IB. This however leads to the Invisible Thing sealed in the 2nd Touma no longer having a Seal to stop it, with only the 2nd Touma's force of will holding it back. Needless to say that's going to spell trouble eventually.

Okay, since I've gotten so sick of just talking about it, I've written a little something about the Touma and Kakine fight. Well, more like the ending of the fight and it's not even remotely finished. Just want to share it and see what I could do to spruce it up a bit from what I have so far. There's plenty of things that could be added I think, but for now here's what I've got.

There was no sound to it, no audible noise that signified something had occurred. The pure white wing simply moved towards him like a blur and something fell to the floor with a wet thud. Of course Touma knew what had fallen, without question he knew what it was, and his head had instinctively looked anyways.

Maybe he should have been more surprised when he saw there was nothing attached to his shoulder. Blood was already gushing out of the dismembered limb and it there was no stopping its flow. Laying at his feet, coated and twitching on the floor, was his right arm which was his only trait which made him special.

Kakine, by this point, did not seem at all amused with this sight; nor did he appear remorseful either. Saying he looked bored could have been a good method to describe his expression; but that didn’t accurately describe how he felt about all this.

Dissatisfied was the best term to describe the emotions he felt now. Sure the teen’s power was interesting and unique, but it wasn’t able to measure up the expectations he had been expecting to behold. It was impressive and it was able to stall him for a good while, but that was all. Just because the ability was impressive didn’t mean the individual was he supposed.

Disappointing as it was, Kakine at least credited the boy for lasting as long as he had. Any other person probably wouldn’t have lived as long; which was probably the only reason Touma was still alive right now.
Had he really felt inclined to do so, he would have killed him in that instant, but instead chose with the alternative.

Call it his ‘generosity’ at work.

“I told you, believing that hard work will be rewarding in the long run was shit.” Having already assumed this pointless conflict was concluded, Kakine turned away from his opponent as he spoke these words. Mostly to himself really, but it was still loud enough for Touma to hear if he strained his ears to listen. “The people with talent are the ones who will always be superior to those without it. Remember that when the next time you look at you’re right shoulder from here on….assuming, of course, you don’t die from blood-loss.”

By now, Kakine was expecting to hear the reaction typically associated when someone looses an appendage. Cries of agony, incoherent mummerings, maybe even the thud of the teen’s body fainting from just witnessing his arm motionless on the floor. Typical things like those were expected to come at some point, as such a thing was normal. Nothing really to be ashamed of either, as even someone like him would have probably done any number of things had he been in his opponent’s shoes.

But he heard nothing; nothing outside of his own footfalls was heard. Perhaps it was just the shock that kept the boy silent. Or maybe it hadn’t fully registered in his brain that, yes, his arm had been severed from his body.

Those speculations were put to rest when something eventually did finally reach his ears. And what he heard actually forced the blonde teen to cease entirely to readdress the individual behind him.

What he heard was laughter. At first, it started as a barely coherent chuckle with the only thing that supported it as such was the shaking of Touma’s body. But those chuckles soon grew louder, clearer to distinguish, until eventually his laughter reached its pinnacle and was practually echoing off the walls in the warehouse.

Needless to say, this reaction confused, disturbed, and somewhat irritated Kakine enough for it to show on his face.

“What the hell are you laughing about?” Addressed the teen, though he doubted his words had reached Touma as the boy persisted in this abnormal behavior. “Did having your arm severed destroy your sanity?”

A short time after these questions were asked, Kamijou appeared to have calmed down somewhat. He was still chuckling to himself though and was grinning as if someone had told him a hilarious joke.

In a way, someone had done just that.

“I finally get it now.” This was a question spoken in-between chuckles, and as those words escaped his own footfalls resonated along the walls as he advanced towards Kakine. “It took me this long to understand, but I get it now.”

“What the hell are you-”

“What do you know about talent?” The interruption along with the statement itself visibly made Kakine’s lips twitch downward. “That’s something you’re born with, right? You don’t have any talent either, do you Dark Matter? The city gave it to you; you weren’t born with it, so that pretty much makes you talentless too.”

Having heard enough, Kakine used his infamous ability to erect an explosion that would have surely turned Kamijou into a smear on the walls and floor. While the bang was heard and debris flew in every direction, Kamijou emerged from it completely unscathed. To make it more baffling, the spiky haired teen did not pause in the slightest; he simply kept walking forward as if nothing had occurred at all.

“But all you Level 5’s think that you’re special just because of your rank.” Furthermore, Kamijou persisted with his words, intent on continuing with where he left off. “All of you think your special, gifted or something, when all it really was from the beginning was luck. Like when someone wins the lottery, it doesn’t have anything to do with skill or how many you buy; it all comes down to luck.”

Growing more and more agitated, pure white wings of Dark Matter once again emerged from his back. Unlike before, all six of these angelic creations shot out at once in a blur to cut the boy into pieces. But no blood was spilt, no limbs were severed. For in the instant they reached close proximity to the boy, all of them broke apart as if they were constructed from glass.

By this point, baffled didn’t even remotely describe how Kakine felt about the situation.

“And like those lottery winners, all you’ve done is selfishly squandered that power for your own wants.” By now, the gap between the two parties had decreased drastically. So much so that it could be closed in less than a few seconds of running. “Not just you, but all the others I’ve seen so far. But I get it now; I understand what it is I’m supposed to be doing.”

Now Kakine was no coward by any stretch of the word. He had done a great deal of things in his time in the darkness to reach this particular point in his life. Despite what he said otherwise, there were things out there that did make him tread with caution. There did exist things that even he wouldn’t foolishly tussle with until the conditions were in his favor. Being reckless was an easy way to get killed, and even if he was the second strongest Esper in the city there did exist things that warranted such caution.
The things on that list were scarce, but they were still there regardless.

“Me, who was born with Imagine Breaker and by default a person with talent, needs to start sending bastards like you a reminder.”

And in that moment, something about this teen was creeping its way into his heart that actually made him cautious.

“With all your power, even as you all sit on your titles like thrones; you’re all still just as normal and human as me. You all bleed like I do, feel pain like I do, and can suffer as much misfortune as I do.”

No…he mused it wasn’t caution that he felt.

“Come on then, Dark Matter; show me that talent you’re so proud of. Create for me something that outshines Imagine Breaker and proves your superiority.”

It was an emotion called fear.

“Do it so I can show you just how easy it is to break!”

In a prerecording, Misaka Mikoto clears her throat. She reads a fan letter.

It was a cold day.

A dramatic reading.

I was on my way from cram school when I saw a kitten sitting near the sidewalk. I was afraid I might scare it off by walking too close, so I decided to get on all fours and slowly approach. ‘Meow! Meow!’ I called out, hoping to get its attention. But as I drew nearer, I realized...

It was actually a glove.

The level 5 takes a breath before going on.

“ARE YOU KITTEN ME? PAWS AND PAY MORE ATTENTION, DAMN ITTTTTTT!’”

As music starts playing, an excited middle school student gets pumped up. Within the recording studio, Saten Ruiko pulls the mike in close for the opening.

“Hi-hi~! Welcome to the Railgun S Post-Production Show (Temporary Name)! The title doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue, so that’ll definitely change!”

She winds her arm.

“With the recent influx of Railgun in the news, the guys in suits and ties greenlit a talk show of sorts about discussing Railgun and other affiliated media! So, I’ll be your host today, Saten Ruiko, resident Level 0~! And next to me is the superstar main lead of To aru Kagaku Railgun, Misaka Mikoto~!”

Saten Ruiko cheerfully claps her hands, though Misaka Mikoto is visually flustered.

“H-Hey...”

Saten raises an eyebrow...

“Really? Is that how you’re going to introduce herself? ( laughs )”

“W-What do you expect after delivering such an embarrassing line...! Why do I even have to take part in a segment called ‘Scold Me! Miko-chaaaan!’”

“Oooh? You say that, but you were the one who agreed to do it, you know.”

Misaka Mikoto’s face becomes redder. Her voice gets quieter as she goes on.

“That’s because... That’s because I thought it would be fun... But it was actually... kind of... humiliating...”

“What’s this? I just can’t get enough of that expression! ( laughs )”

“E-Enough! Let’s just get on with this!”

“Fresh start! Hi everyone, I’m Misaka Mikoto and I’m lead character in To aru Kagaku no Railgun S! It’s a pleasure meeting you all!”

After bowing to no one in particular, she turns over to Saten.

“Haha! There! I did it! ( laughs )”

“You sure did! ( laughs )”

The sound of glass being tapped is noticeable. Saten turns her head and receives a message.

“Hmm? Ah, looks like the staff is saying that our third guest will be arriving a bit late...”

“Third guest...? That would be... Uiharu, is that right?”

“Ah, no. I recently talked to her about hosting, but she was too busy with Judgement work.”

Saten shakes her head.

“Then it’s... Kuroko? Wait, no. She has Judgement work too, doesn’t she...”

“Yeah. Though I can imagine her hitting her head against a wall for missing out on this! ( laughs )”

“That sounds like her... ( laughs )”

Mikoto nods her head in agreement. She then presses Saten on.

“But if it’s not them, who is it! I’m curious! Tell me! Tell me!”

“That’s...”

Saten raises a finger, but the name escapes her.

“I actually don’t remember the name. But apparently, like us, he has a lot of free time on his hands, so he’ll have no problem fitting in! ( laughs )”

As Saten proudly displays the novel for everyone, Misaka Mikoto covers her face.

Saten puts the book to the side.

She throws away the topic.

“In any case, I should probably mention what I’ve been up to!”

Saten’s head sunk.

Her eyes glaze over.

Her eyes suddenly light up.

“SATEN’S SUPER WEIGHT-LOSS TRAINING! 100 PUSH-UPS, 100 SIT-UPS, 100 SQUATS. EVERY SINGLE DAY...!”

She collapses in her seat, sighing...

“It’s been really tough, but somehow I’ve been managing...”

“That’s pretty hardcore... are you trying to be Onepunch-Man or something...? ( laughs )”

“Yes. That’s right.”

She quickly changes the subject.

“Anyhow, let’s move on...”

“I see...”

The sound of glass being tapped is noticeable. Saten quickly turns.

“Eh? He’s here? Ah! He’s here!”

A door opens.

“Hey! Come! Sit! Sit! Don’t be shy!”

As Saten greets the guest, Mikoto does a double take. Her mouth opens slightly.

“...”

He hovers for a moment, noticing the setup of the room.

“C’mon! We don’t have all day!”

The boy looks out the door. He seems to be evaluating the option to walk away. Though, instead he hobbles towards a far side seat and reluctantly puts on the supplied headphones.

“...”

“You sure took your sweet time there! How about an explanation why you’re so late!”

His eyes shift from Saten to the frozen Misaka Mikoto.

“Well... No one actually told me what this gig was, just that I needed to be here.”

“Really? ( laughs )”

He rubs his temple.

“This is... a radio show, right?”

“Erm... yes! Ah! How about you introduce yourself to all our listeners!”

“...”

He scans the room once more. Afterwards, he more or less figures out what’s going on, though somehow he seems unhappy. Speaking in monotone...

“While not a main character, I’m more of an important side character in To aru Kagaku Railgun S...”

The white-haired boy leans in.

“I’m Accelerator. Nice to meet ya’.”

( Person 1 ) is found by ( Person 3 ) in the process and thinks he/she has finally been checkmated, but "fortunately" a helping hand is held out to him. ( Person 4 ).
Is this encounter a coincidence or has someone ensured it would happen? When science and magic cross paths, the story begins!
