Masako does recognize Naru in epi 1 but youre right, I dont think he totally remembered right away since in the video she saw of him he was a bit younger. Might have taken her a few days to piece it together.

Naru def doesnt want to attract attn but that goes more into way he kept his identity hidden in the first place, think of why he's in Japan to begin with. (Again brain not letting me explain this properly so Ill drop hints ).
Eventually the gang does find out who he is and readers find out that John and Bou-san had started thinking it for a while. John probably during the Urado arc since he knew about the age. Bou-san later since he thought the fake Davis was the real one. But it happens soon after Naru's release for the hospital and them finding the lake.

Im not sure what happens after Gene said sayonara to Mai *scratches head* when Naru left for England she was not able to dream of Gene. But when Naru came back she finally dreamt of him again. Btw, even when they found the body he still wasn't able to pass on. One possibilty I came across on another site is that since Naru and Gene share the same DNA they need to both be together in order to pass on. Without Naru, gene won't be able to move on because "half" of him is still alive. Sketchy no? Well like I said, it's probably impossible to predict anything when I've only read a short summary of the novel.

Sorry for wandering around like this, questions after questions. That's how I do. ; )

The story is really good and has such potential. Especially when the Novel contains so many answers, that itself deserves an OVA series on its own or second season. Well, only time will tell...

Agreed I was one of the lucky ones that actually got to see all the info come together. LKK-Sensei let a few ppl read it as she wrote it so Im very biased, I think its totally awesome. d(^_^)

In the most recent trans by Shadow, Gene tells Mai that he knew from the beginning he wouldnt be able to 'get to the exit' is I think what he says. He can see the exit, he just cant get there. Im a believer that he doesnt want to pass on since he's got his attachment to Noll and now Mai, but I think Noll is keeping him here more. The DNA thing is interesting I would have thought of it like that.
One question that was brought up by someone over on the shibuya_pr lj comm a long time ago was when the unknown fact if Gene ever does stop appearing to Mai. This person who has read the novel commented that the last novel in the series doesnt address it basically since Ono-Sensei just kinda stopped writing it in the mid 90's

It's important to remember that Naru felt if his presence in Japan was known that could lead to publicity. Publicity meant the possibility that his face would appear in the mass media. If Gene's killer saw a picture of Naru, it's possible that person would have come after Naru. Madoka says at the end of the Labryinth arc that the consequences for Naru could be bad if he received any publicity. This is the fear she was alluding to.

So why couldn't Naru tell the other SPR people and ask them to keep it a secret? There is no canon answer to that question as far as I know. My opinion is that that he didn't trust them to keep his secret. More specifically, he didn't trust Mai. Mai twice proved that if she got angry enough, she would blurt out anything to get revenge. She promised not to tell anyone about Naru bending the spoon. Yet days later, she announced it to the office. She wasn't supposed to tell anyone that Naru was the real Kazuya Shibuya during the Labryinth arc. But in anger, she told the research lady exactly that. Mai wouldn't betray a confidence under normal circumstances. But in her anger, she could have and probably would have said something potentially damaging at some point in time. Would you trust her to keep your secret if your life depended on it? I wouldn't.

It's also important to remember how the Evil Spirits series unfolds. The Evil Spirits series is a mystery series that answers the question "Who is Naru really?" If Naru had told the others who he really was, then all the mystery of the series would be gone.

We know that John wrote Naru a letter and more then likely knew who he was before coming to Japan. Now whether or not Naru knew right away is anyones guess but do you think this gives any credit to why Naru calls John by his first name? If they exchanged letters, that might be enough, course that would mean Naru would have had to remember midway through File 1 since thats when he starts calling John by his name. Just speculation on my part since Naru's odd way of addressing people still bothers me

That could be culture difference. It is very common for people from western countries wanting to be called in first name even by first-met, but it can be a very serious matter in Japan. Paying too much attention on it might be Mai's John-can-you-speak-English line all over again.

I find it funny that with respect to the other office irregulars (Ayako and Masako mostly) and Yasu, Naru normally calls people by their first names, even his parents.

That is what marks Hara-san as a special person to Naru-chan (ignoring anyone else other than Masako is called by last names). We all know Naru-chan is a tsundere. Naru-chan is striving this hard for hiding the secretive fact of being in love with Hara-san. This only makes obvious Naru-chan is in love with Hara-san.

By the way, I had wondered why no sub-forum was made for GH considering its large number of posts and tensity of serious discussion. Only having noticed very recently when I was skimmed those older posts: GH only started to attract more posts and posters until it got to second half. Perhaps mods thought it was too late to made sub-forum. How sad.

That's a good guess as to why there was no sub-forum for GH. GH the anime had 2 strikes against it in terms of gaining popularity in its run. Strike one, GH ran the same season as Death Note. For a long while, all the buzz was focused primarily on DN. Strike two, GH is at its weakest in the first few episodes. I noticed a huge jump in net buzz after episode 6. After that is when the word of mouth (word of net??) started to mention GH as one of the "overlooked" anime of the season.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. ~puts on the Mod hat~ Sub-forum consideration is based largly on how much traffic/posting a thread receives in a small period of time and how much discussion it will generate. A good example now is the Spice and Wolf anime thread. Very high traffic volume in that thread. Also mods take into consideration what kind of discussion itll generate as well and other things, GH didnt generate that as far as I know. ~takes off the Mod hat~

Sensei is also right. Going up against Death Note as well as Code Geass in one season wasnt a help either. Also GH wasnt subbed regularly til what...epi 10? Cuz I finally started watching it raw after reading Impz's summary of 9 which of course made me go O_O. The whole ureshii-SHS slow subbing wasnt good. Thankfully Shadow picked it up and then also SHS kicked it out like mad and GH finally got a following.

I will say this and this is just my opinion, in the long run Im glad GH never got a sub-forum. We were all kinda on the ground floor with this anime and seeing the same people post in the thread every week was very fun. I remember seeing a few members including monir say that one of the reasons they started watching this anime was all the buzz we were giving it. I think sometimes that close-nit feeling is lost in a sub-forum since there are so many topics. Yeah a sub-forum would have been nice for spoilers and such for the seasoned veterans and newbs (so this baka-bun would not have clicked that spoiler...but anyways..) but in retrospect again, I prefer it as a regular thread. Plus this thread kinda turned into the spoilers/speculation thread anyways I remember when Kaze no Stigma was generating alot of talk, alot of the regular posters said they hoped it would not get a sub-forum since they enjoyed everything in one topic and it didnt.

^^ "Possibly be true?!?!" Yes, it's possible. There have been a couple of indications that v10 will release in April in Japan. Most of the fans I know are taking a "I'll believe it when I see it" position for the moment since we've been disappointed in the past by such indications.
