I also like the down to earth battle in HnA main story and the same can be said for AA because the fight didn't turn super natural but the craziness in HnA is just one of the selling points for it to me. Though the author made a mistake in HnA main story because while, he introduce super natural since vol 1. In later volumes, the power level or craziness just jump sky high that its not proportionate to earlier volumes. It should take to the normal shounen route where higher level of enemies are introduced one by one but not when the current enemy has power level over 100 then the next is over 1000. its just out of whack for me that made me cringe on the battle in HnA main but it still exciting when bullets rain in the battle field.

I wouldn't say which is better for now, but seeing the material so far, this one doesn't have the massive nippon autofellatio the author of the series push so far in the main series, that's something.
You're just too new or didn't read enough. |

You do know that Aria light novel starts in 2008 right? and its even a year early than IS in which light novel harem protag become popular.
Aria light novel started in August 2008. back then, there are harem stories already with tenchi muyo being rather popular but from light novel industry? Hidan no aria started a bit early. Plus Kinji's state of HSS is pretty unique back then when it started. I can't remember a light novel that started early that has the same setting. Index starts at 2004 but the harem part of that story isn't really that prominent. Zero no tsukaima also started in 2004 but Saito is different type of MC from Kinji. Even Kyon-kun is different. If you can remember a harem light novel protag that is earlier than Kinji that is almost or like him then please let me know. Because I don't know.

Sometimes it like that with Anime. It can be hard to judge the best shows from the bad ones until you seen that first episode.
For example I was highly dubous of Monster Girls and School Live this session, and Aoharu x Kikanjuu didn't even register till I gave it a go |

Well, let hope many people know that they don't actually need to watch the main series to enjoy AA. (like Index - Railgun)
EDIT: EP.1 Wow...it is clearly better than the main series. What I like the most is probably the animation.

First episode was indeed good. they added came but its fun to see Shirayuki and Kinji around. The fights are also good but some scene felt disjointed or lacking of frames or maybe its just animation techniques but the scene where, Aria jump in to cross first against the man in the train station, felt skipping for me.
