Korean Films
since there wasnt a discussion on this, i will start it off by saying that Korean Movies are getting better and better over the years.
recently a movie called Taegukki Hwe-Naal ri meou. ( AKA Taeguki: Brotherhood of War) showed on american theaters. I was stunned that an actually korean movie came through the american market. and this movie is so great, its a must see. other good movies are; My Sassy Girl as some of you might already know, and there are ALOT of gangster comedy movies, so try one of them and see if you like it. |

Everyone has watched My Sassy Girl...
I've only watched a lot of Korean romance movies since I thought it was the only genre Korean movies are good at (with all those cute girls!!! ) So can anyone recommend some good Korean movies that are not romance? Preferably action. (besides the ones that have been mentioned) |

Either way, I'll be watching Taegukki on DVD with my friend for a seminar-type project we'll be doing, so eh. |

Swiri is a big name thriller that's had some degree of distribution and promotion in the west and it's not bad, but I believe it's a little overrated. A better example is JSA (Gongdong gyeongbi guyeok). At the moment, the recent release Oldboy is riding high in the IMDB top 250 and looks like it's definitely worth a viewing. SCC |

Dolryuchagi (AKA spin kick) i saw this one since it seemed interesting. its about bunch of low-lifes are going into a TaeKwonDo club and its one of the small selection of Sports/Comedy/Drama. Personally i liked it, but many people might not. Quote:

Sex is Zero is a rather broad comedy.
Attack the Gas Station goes over-the-top with a robbery plot. Barking Dogs Never Bite plays on a certain unusual culinary taste. Bleak and funny. edit: Just watched Brother. It took its damn time but ultimately told an interesting story about young brats growing up and eventually becoming gangsters. Some impressive violence scattered here and there. Attack the Gas Station sounds so interesting, but i never got to watching it. donno bout 3rd one. theres a new movie called Ba-Ram Ui Pa-E-Tuh. (Fighter of the Wind) its action film about a korean guy going around japan, beating the top martial artists. heard its based on a true story, and as a Martial Art Movie Fan, i will be checking it out. oh and if you like My Sassy Girl, try Windstruck its done by same director and has Jun-Ji-Hyeon. ^^ actually dont watch Ba-Ram Ui Pa-E-Tuh. (Fighter of the Wind) if you get offended easily, because it kinda shows the "bad sides" of japan.... and the movie is fricking 60 percent japanese!! i dont get whats going on. Oldboy was brought to the US thanks to Quintin Taretino (sp?) at the Cannes Film Festival, but uhhh... they kept thinking he directed it, and kept giving Quintin all this directoral praise. |

I agree with you on JSA too. At first I thought the mystery was great, and as you put the puzzle together everyone becomes quite a tragic victim of circumstance. SCC |
