Is the anime version of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei pure harem and full with everyone getting invovled with the sensei?
I like the op and ed animation style... and I thought the manga version is not too bad (like the humour >>> any sort of romance || fan service)... But how about the anime |

To be fair,
Yes, lots of fanservice. Yes, its a harem. But that doesnt stop it from being funny like the manga. I have no problems with harems that dont take themselves seriously. I like them infact. If you limit yourself to anime/manga that has absolutely no fanservice nor harems, its your choice, but I find the funniest anime/manga have some of one or the other. 2 cents |

My definition of harem is... "one dorky looking guy being romantically involved (the love does not have to be mutual) with 5+ women"
If it's just number of girls to guys I really don't care. But these girls are pretty young (15ish?) and for them to be seriously invovlved with the sensei is... I have no qualm about most fan service stuff. I am not interested in inflated boops and skimpy dresses but those don't stop me from watching something good unless it's to the magnitude of Dragonaut Ep 5... I was asking my question because I liked how random the manga was, and for me serious romance would mess up the series. |

Ah, but its not just the superfluity of women to men, right?
Spoiler for persons who have a romantic interest in Sensei. Spoiler:
Now we all know that none of these are "serious" romances, but still... There are harems like hayate no gotoku, And there are harems like seto no hanayome... And there are harems like kanon (no offense to kanon fans). Each have a main male lead, each has many female leads with romantic interest in the male lead, each has a distinct style. I think, SZS is no different. But back to the topic: If you liked the randomness of the manga, the anime is even more random, imho. 2cents EDIT: Oh and if your definition of harem involves a dorky looking guy... You shouldnt even be asking this question because its hard to change the despairing sensei into an "ordinary high school boy who's a nice guy" ya? Last edited by w00tness; 2007-12-05 at 14:11. ...and SZS is not your typical harem (dysfunctional, if at all). |

@Ori: I think the students are in second year high school. As for my understanding of harems, a "true" harem has the main character falling for someone with other people falling for the main character while they go for the one they're interested in and that generally becomes the plot of the series. In this series' case the Sensei doesn't go for someone and so this can't truely be called a "harem" series. It may have aspects of the genre, but that's just it.
@w00tness: Did you forget about harems like the one in Fushigi Yugi (which work in the opposite way)? It's not always the man that gets lucky. |

I think you guys are mistaken: for the show to be a harem it's not enough to just have a bunch of girls fall for the main lead, it requires the romantic aspect of such relationships to be a major part of the storyline, and SZS doesn't have one(it has no consistent plot).

Agreed. If anything i would like to add, it's that Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is not counting harem among its genre. SZS is actually a rather sarcastic manga, ridiculing many things in reality. The characters often reflect some particular persons or some particular groups of people in real life. This manga has depth!

Has anyone else had problems with the AFK episode 10? Wouldn't play in Quicktime or even VLC. Or did I just have a problem file?
Ah. Was some weird problem with my system - Everything I've downloaded today has been screwed up. Rebooted my system and things are OK now. Last edited by Dop; 2007-12-09 at 14:29. |
