"...and it was worth it, every last second."
The trailer looks promising, I'm curious to see how it'll turn out, seeing as there could be some astronomical or supernatural phenomenon as part of the story.

I was quoting the reaction of a good acquaintance of mine, to be fair. ^^

I've waxed at length on this phenomenon before - I call it the Shinkai "more real than real" effect. It's not as though Shinkai goes for photographic accuracy - rather, he seems to somehow find the Platonic, elemental essence of real things and express it visually. I've never seen the like in animation.

I think Shinkai is going to be at risk of being a one trick pony. He tried expanding his style and now he's basically gave up on it. This just feels like all his other movies. Beautiful sky porn, sure, but that simply doesn't excite or move me anymore.

Then again these comments were largely said by tweeters who are massive fans of Kyoto animation and claim they have the best animation techniques in Japan so I'm dumb for letting them affect me. Anyways back on topic. It looks fantastic but I'm hoping it will have a bigger impact on me emotionally than garden of words. Garden of words was a very pleading movie to watch on the eyes but I felt something that was missing in particular the ending. |

Same here. I don't get all the hype about 5 cm/s but in general I like Kumo no Mukou and Hoshi no Koe. Although I still think that Shinkai is a good artist and decent director but quite bad scriptwriter so he better to make short videos not full-length films.

oh my god those visuals. promised place probably didn't get as much recognition because if people watch it once and don't fully understand it, the time skip and overall timeline will make it confusing for them. whereas 5 cm/s is linear and it develops the story front to back.
