I've read all 9, and I know I should take info on wikipedia with a grain of salt, but some of the info on there says that in the manga, things are revealed about Naru that I didn't read in any of the 9 mangas. Did I miss something?

If you refer Naru's back story, you may have misread the wiki article. It clearly states those things are revealed "In the novels."

The source material for GH is not manga, but novels.

I apologize for cross posting, I didn't realize there was a manga forum until I posted in the other one. Thank you for the information. Does anyone know if they have the novels in English, I would like to read them.

Novels arent in english yet, but baka-tsuki has translated the first few chaps and the novel set is on their possible list. Also Shadow Dreams has done some chap trans from the novels that havent been done in manga form yet but I dont have the links off the top of my head.

Nope, its been pulled indefinitely by its publishing company in Japan. There is a rumor going around that Ono Fuyumi-sensei has been reworking the novels so a few of think this also might have something to do with it not being out. It appears that its done since for a while it was on the market but pulled before its release date. No other date has been given yet but trust me...this thread will explode when anyone hears anything on it ^^

So i suppose if the 10th volume does come out, it will def. have some more answers beyond the manga and anime correct? As from what I see it, the manga and anime storyline is no different from each other so I was somewhat dissapointed when i read the manga afterwards.

Hmmm I can see how you would say that but the anime left out key components to dream!naru and Naru's backstory. Yes since the anime is totally based on the manga the field work they do is the same but conversations were taken out of the manga that were very important.

Read that a looooong time ago No Im taking about actual translations from the novel that Shadow Dreams posted to her lj (after LKK-Sensei's blog entry since it sparked alot of discussion there).

I see.. so im way too late for any discussions since its not as popular anymore eh? Well there really isn't anything to disucss about except im hoping for a second season >: ( All the questions have been answered and no more guessing and predicting. I also read most of the past replies and wow you guys are good. I mean some of the speculations here were dead on. All there is now would be to wait for the translations of the novel? Does anyone know where I can get it even if it is raw.

I also heard that Ghost Hunt was inspired by the tv show ghost hunters. I don't know why but when i first watched ghost hunters i thought it was really bogus. Team SPR is way better and beats any of the cast from ghost hunters by far. ^^

I seriously doubt that the TV show Ghost Hunters inspired the Ghost Hunt novel series. The Evil Spirits novel series (Ghost Hunt's original name) was written in the early to mid 1990s whereas the tv show is from this century.

I see thanks im still searching for the novel however it's pretty hard to track down since theres so many evil spirits novels on google. I have a friend who's japanese and may be able to translate the whole since he owes me big time. ; )

Last but not least I was thinking about some things in the anime and manga that struck me. Perhaps that its already been disucssed here but I shall rant on anyway =D

Naru used is PK powers to foresee mai in his life later on(perhaps his wife maybe? ).. so thats what made him "attatch" or hire her in the first place.

I think Naru and Mai have a special connection either through strong intuitions or maybe his twin brother, for instance he's the one only one who happens to save her from the most dangerous situations. All in all i think naru is more powerful than we think. He can see the future and the past kind of annoying if you ask me. I mean i wouldnt want anyone to read my past especially if it wasnt meant to be revealed in the first place.

Another member here (long ago) mentioned that naru purposely hired mai to help her "pay" for the expenses knowing she was an orphan. Well i dont think thats the case because thats just degrading and i think mai can stand on her own without any pity paycheck.

Why do you think that Naru can see the future? As far as I know, there is no indication that Naru possesses the ability to see or predict the future. Naru's powers consist of PK-ST and psychometry, the ability to see the past through touching objects. My understanding is that he has some additional powers that are active solely with Eugene such as telepathy between the two, but those are not explored in depth in the novels.

About Mai's hiring, Mai asks Naru if he hired her because he suspected she might have psychic powers. He says no. He hired her because he felt sorry for her being an orphan. Apparently his time spent in the orphanage was unpleasant for him. He assumed that Mai had had a similar experience being an orphan and wanted to help her out a little. He didn't realize that her experience wasn't as unpleasant as his was. (This conversation takes places in the last novel of the Evil Spirits series.) I think there's little doubt that Naru felt sorry for Mai and that is why he hired her. Whether or not that qualifies as a "pity paycheck" is up to interpretation.

Well you are a bit late but thats the nice thing about GH, it seems after people watch the anime they obv want more which is why the blog was written. But I still love discussing it with people since even some of us are still finding out stuff about the series.

My speculations were wrong But again I am just the student After learning the spoilers it was easier to determine what could happen later in the series. Speculating was fun though espc since some of us who knew the spoilers still didnt know what happened in later parts of the manga since it was just recently released in english here and trying to read the raw just wasnt good enough.

I didn't mention it in my essay. It was something Shadow told me while I was writing the essay, but I didn't work it into the final draft.

From what I understand, at some time prior to the series start, John wrote a letter to Dr. Oliver Davis asking him for advice on a possession case that John was working on. They exchanged one or two letters in the process. That's one reason why John is so knowledgeable about Dr. Davis, even more so than Bou-san is. If you notice during the Bloody Labyrinth arc, John knows more about Oliver Davis's reputation than Bou-san. John knows things such as how young Dr. Davis really is and the fact that his PhD is an honorary degree given for his research rather than a standard degree earned through the traditional university system.

What I don't know is whether Naru realized at any point in time prior to end of the Evil Spirits series that he and John had communicated before. I'm sure Naru didn't remember him at the beginning of their association. But he may have eventually remembered their correspondence after working with John for a while.

Well it's not exactly as forseeing the future. Sort of like a vision somewhat similar to mai. For instance the forbidden game arc, where mai saw the demon spirit move into the broadcasting room and the fire was going to happen there instead of the usual locker room. It's as easy as putting 2 and 2 together, Naru may have the same experience under certain conditions (especially when mai is near danger). However, it could be just a coincidence that he's there at the right time and place, but often one too many times (and he got there FAST) for me to assume that it was mere fate.

Also, why do you think that Naru wanted to keep his identity as Oliver Davis a secret from the rest of the group? From the anime I would guess that Masako recalled who he really was probably after episode 6 or 7(sorry i know most of you are going by the manga but for some reason i remember what happens in the anime more so than the manga). The reason being would be that the anime didn't hint any "favors" done for Masako from Naru. It wasn't until episode 11(MasakoxNaru date) that the gang made a valid guess that either Naru was being blackmailed ^.^ or Masako's father was supporting SPR, but we all know Naru is plenty rich. Perhaps Naru didn't want anyone else to treat him differently if they found out he was the infamous Dr. Davis, maybe he just didn't want to attract any media or attention. IMO he didn't want Mai to look at him in any other way than just Naru.

Masako does recognize Naru in epi 1 but youre right, I dont think he totally remembered right away since in the video she saw of him he was a bit younger. Might have taken her a few days to piece it together.

Naru def doesnt want to attract attn but that goes more into way he kept his identity hidden in the first place, think of why he's in Japan to begin with. (Again brain not letting me explain this properly so Ill drop hints ).
Eventually the gang does find out who he is and readers find out that John and Bou-san had started thinking it for a while. John probably during the Urado arc since he knew about the age. Bou-san later since he thought the fake Davis was the real one. But it happens soon after Naru's release for the hospital and them finding the lake.
