if i don`t mistake, there are three or four "Fullmetal Alchemist" short editional series. So, in one of them ("Kids OVA") a kind of the movie`s ending is proposed (i don`t think they meant it seriously).
I have all of them. Wanna see?

Hi everyone.

Just saw the movie tonight and I came away very impressed.
The visuals were gorgeous from Wrath's fight to the facial expressions on the characters, and the soundtrack was an awesome mix of familiar themes with original music.
As for the ending...

A lot of people, here on this forum especially, have been critizing the ending of the movie. But I must disagree. I felt that the ending provided a sense of closure to the series. I know that some of you are angry with Al and Ed deserting Winry, but I think that was done purposefully and for a reason. I don't think the directors "forgot" about Winry.
A main theme of FMA is the bond of brotherhood between Ed and Al. How they endured perils, how they shared their triumphs and failures together; their journey to restore each other is the basic plot to the series.
Content that his brother is alive, Ed decides to return to the other side of the Gate to close it permanently and spare his world. Al leaves his world behind to go with Ed. This shows the bond between them. Al would rather give up his family, his friends and his entire world to be with his brother.
The ending of FMA couldn't be a happily-ever-after ending. It would not fit with the show! And in the end, Ed and Al are finally reunited. They've lost their world and all their friends in it, but they still have each other, which is the most important thing to them.
Winry even says in the movie "Ed's on that [rocket]....I just can feel it" or something to that effect. Winry realizes that Ed is too unselfish to try to remain in his world while allowing the suffering to exist in both. Ed and Al realize that it's not all about them and their personal struggle. That point, I thought, really sealed the deal for me. Ed and Al grew as characters and will finally be able journey on together. And though Winry was basically left behind, I think that without leaving something or someone behind, the Ed and Al reunion would have been a bit...un-FMA like. There must be equivilent exchange.

I really enjoyed the movie. The only thing lacking IMO was the fight scenes. Though it was great seeing Roy and Riza and Ed and Armstrong (hehe Armstrong! ) fighting evil again, I would've wished for more. The demise of the evil chick was especially lacking (ala Dante's death). The fight with Roy and Fuhrer Bradley in the final two episodes was a truely epic and well put together battle. It wasn't too flashy or dramatic. Something about that paticular fight seemed to hit the nail on the head, IMO.

Other than that small gripe I totally loved it. It was great to see old characters again and some new ones too. Noa's character was suprisingly deep, and Wrath was definately bumped up a few notches on my "Favorite Sins" list.

The one thing I can suggest for people going into the movies is to try to go in not thinking of your own endings. Don't plot out the movie before you see it, because you may be dissapointed if your assumptions don't come true. IMO, the bittersweet ending was a perfect way to end FullMetal Alchemist.

Ed already knows that alchemists in so-called Shambala also pay for the energy they use in alchemy processes. They pay with some materials for the material result of the process. But they don`t know with what they pay for the energy. Hohenheim told (and showed) Ed, that this payment is our world people`s lives (as i got it).
So, there is a question in my mind - would Edward return to his native world with the knowledge, that every time he uses alchemy, other people suffer?
So, maybe it IS the end... Or maybe in the next movie/series Ed and Al will wander just in this world... Or maybe Ed don`t care about it (if i don`t mistake, at the end of the series, he said he wants to return)

BUT THAT`S A PART OF THE INTEREST!!! You go to the movie preparing your version of the storyline. And then you get surprized, or excited, or... dissapointed. BUT THAT`S THE DEAL. I like to do so.

I tivod that shit But to the reason im hear, I just found out about the movie aobut a week ago watching adult swim i seen the preview for the movie. It says its going to come to theaters but it also says it was released on dvd 2 days ago. Well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappoined by the ending of the movie. If I were Ed I would've stayed in my own world... but at least the brothers finally reunited, and looking at the ending of the original series, this kind of "not so happy ending" was just fine.

I really liked the movie, but I was kinda disappointed with the ending. There wasn't enough emotion and sadness to make it a proper ending. but, it was good overall. Im thinking of getting the Movie manga in colour ^^.

Well I just seen the movie like 7 minutes ago. I felt like I needed to cry when Wrath died but I COULDN'T. I cryed during the credits.

I LOVED the movie. The ending sucked big time. I have to agree with ronyap28 with the ending.
