Despite my love-hate relationship with the show, there's one thing I really like about it; that air of complete closure coming which already started with the Aizas. I can't describe this vibe well, but it does feel like ages since I've watched an anime that seems to be coming to a proper "full ending" for all its stories and characters.
And with episodes like this, the feeling seems to only get stronger. |

The cat scene didn't come off as trite or lame because that pretty much happened to me. It happened right after I was told the person I loved died. I couldn't take the animal to a vet in time, so it died in my hands. I'm a huge animal lover and it was really a horrible thing to happen and on that day
I'm glad that this anime will have a proper ending judging from the episode-manga count. |

I seriously hope to be wrong, but from what I perceived in this episode (with zero manga knowledge) I don't think we'll see Kaori alive again, or in a coma. I think she's gone.
Among other symbolisms, I took the cat scene as an alternative portrayal of what happened to her. That hand falling down deprived of strength and shown again as highlight later, could be her last moment. Kousei, who may have flaws but he's very smart and perceptive cried his soul out, because he understood. And the next episode's preview - usually we get a few animated scenes, this time just a silent snowy sky. For the rest of the episode, as always they were able to do a magnificent job with the monologues. This has to be one of the series with best use of inner dialogues I've ever seen. Tsubaki is not my favourite characters but the scenes involving her in the second cour were all so beautiful. A bit surprised that Kousei was a still at the stage where he thought to be "friend A" after all he went through with Kaori. Though this doesn't change much, if Kaori were an healthy girl, they would have eventually become aware of their feelings.

I think the cat it self was there for symbolism sake, the cat looks like the one from his childhood that his mom got rid of, and in this episode it appears near him the whole time. What it means I dunno yet, I'm going to rewatch the episode again when I get home from work

Well, back on track...
The story may be really trying to give you some breather in-between but at the end of each episode my heart gets wrenched real hard... The signs/flags make it really painful to bear... Last edited by RDNexus; 2015-03-06 at 20:46. |

Every single episode seems to bring with a wave of emotion that has set me off time and again (no shame in admitting that whatsoever). Kaori's hope in 18, Takeshi Aiza's closure from 19 (I've loved Chopin's "Revolution" as a piece for a good few years in fairness) and now watching Kousei's world collapse. Each episode before that did the same - and even then those examples are just from the back end of each episode: Tsubaki's perspective this episode for instance was just as strong - particularly the scenes from when Kousei's mother was still alive. Proof that the pair were there for each other time and again, yet across the passage of time they had almost taken each other for granted. No matter how the ending two verses play out, let them play to the end of the piece - this song would only be sullied by an encore. (That last sentence was dreadful, I know ) |
