Anime that teaches how hard life is..

and even though it's so hard to get up, you can still stand back up.

Or somewhere along those lines... It could be Romance, Mecha, Psychological, School (preferably setting is in college)

In other words, an anime that will make you realize how hard it is if you're doing it wrong, eg. Kaiji.

Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei also known as The Tatami Galaxy, I'd say that's probably closest to fitting your description.

I would recommend Ano Hana. It's airing now.

It's very hard to beat Grave of the Fireflies when it comes to teaching how hard life can really get. One of those few movies that chews you up and spits you out like crushed fruit.

hhmm, yes yes, i second this one

though it's not too emotional, it still shows war the way it (probably) was back then

Even though it's set in a fantasy context, Seirei no Moribito might fit your request. Chagum must leave his life as a pampered prince behind and in the process learns much about the difficulties ordinary people face.

Monster has some of this character as well. Dr. Tenma starts off as a well-respected neurosurgeon but later becomes a hunted man.

I think Great Teacher Onizuka will work since the main idea behind the series is to deal with teenagers problems, huge variety of them. Manga goes deeper though.

One of examples would be a guy wanting to comit a suicide because of constant bullying at school.

Tatami Galaxy is a great start for it as a young man realizes that life isn't always as rose-colored as one wants it to be.

In Clannad After Story, former delinquent Tomoya learns how hard life is after high school especially when he starts a family...

Thirded. If you feel like going to bed crying, this is the anime for you.

If you like Kaiji try Akagi. It will show how difficult life can be if you screw with the wrong dude. And Ika Musume. Invading human kind can be tough, especially when nobody takes you seriously and you end up working at a beach diner

Came here to say this. It is such a major tear-jerker for me. It's message is simple. During wartime...
