Animes similar to Clannad

I hope this question wasn't asked too much.

Anyway, can anyone suggest animes similar to clannad?

I really loved the character development and sadness of it.

THANKS

Kanon (2006) - I suggest it because you do not say anywhere in your post "I've seen Kanon BTW" ...that's how similar they are.

I second Kanon(2006). It's done by the same studio and produced by the same people.

I also recommend the other great animes done by Kyoto Animation. Which are AIR(tv) and Haruhi Suzumiya

After you have seen those, Angel Beats done by Key and P.A Works, might also be a good choice for you.

Hmm ... dunno if Haruhi and Angel Beats fits the bill as much (although I enjoyed both of them a lot) - could be wrong though.

Anyway - I will third Kanon 2006 and second Air.

If you are looking for character development and sadness you might try a much older anime: "A Little Princess Sara". World Masterpiece Theater anime are definitely not to everyone's tastes though. Maybe also try White Angel and True Tears? Currently airing Ano Hana also might be your cup of tea.

Well, you're right in that Haruhi is lighter than any of the Key adaptations and has many comedic moments. Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya does have some sad moments in though(and the ending theme is beautiful and bittersweet).

Agreed 100% about the ending. It was a stunning adaptation of the light novel volume! (Of course, the relationship between Kyon and Nagato is my fave element of the novels, and, after all, every frog praises their own swamp and all....)

Whats the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya? Is it a movie or another season? Because I remember watching endless 8 and thats it...

If its a movie, can you tell me where I can watch it?

And I haven't watched Kanon or Air yet, so I'll make sure too )

thank you for all the suggestions. I'll probably end up watching them all

Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi is originally the title of one of the light novels of Suzumiya Haruhi fame, and it was made into a movie last year.

I third? Kanon(2006) and Air. Both made by the same people who made Clannad. I also recommend Shuffle!

There was a Blue-Ray release in Japan last December(DVD as well). The English dubbed version is going to premiere at Anime Expo in a few weeks, so it could be on DVD(I think it's going to be released as a DVD/Blue-Ray combo) in August or September.

Disappearance is a great light novel and the movie has the same animation quality as the first season. And the movie really shows character development on Kyon's part(as well as someone else but that would be getting into spoilers).

I'd recommend Cross Game or Ano Hana.

Wrong! Those are some of the worst, most syrupy, melodramatic garbage ever produced in the history of anime! I know people completely turned OFF anime because of Air!

how about kanon? It looks interesting. I really like the winter theme...

I really want something that has a strong emotional effect.. Clannad achieved this.

Ummm...yeah only about five or six people mentioned Kanon so far so yes I would say that it may be what your looking for (hint at sarcasm). Just watch the 2006 version, the 2002 version isn't as close to Clannad as '06 is.

Indeed, the 2002 version's art alone should send viewers screaming. The chins!

Not everyone feels this way its just a matter of opinion based on ones likes and dislikes. I enjoyed watching all of those anime's and I know of others who feel the same way. Regardless whether or not you liked them they were pretty successful.

So I would also recommend these anime's and I would also like to add Sola, and ef a tale of memories and ef a tale of melodies
