Pretty good episode.
Our dear friend Professor Saiga is in the ending sequence. Can't wait to see him in action. I think that the show has hammered the point on how utterly dependent these inspectors are on Sibyl and are incapable of thinking for themselves. Akane needs to bounce ideas off someone, and the professor can share an interesting dynamic with the cast given that he's an "old school" kind of guy. Still not sure what to think of Togane yet, but given the more than passing resemblance to Kogami, maybe he's a mole planted in division 1. |

Notice that's the same brand Togane smokes too? Combined with him beating on the holobot, I'm suspecting he's purposely trying to imitate Kougami if he's truly a Sibyl plant.
The antagonist is in the ending sequence too. Kirito Kamui. |

I would actually have to say on balance this season has started better than last season. Sure, not everythings perfect, but most things, from the music, to the considerably more dense starting plot, to the new characters and the team dynamic feel a step up (so far) from last season. I would however, be very surprised if the villain will top makishima, and it looks like there won't be the tangents of pseudo philosophical conversations that I really enjoyed from the first season. Also can someone confirm, has akane started smoking or is she just pretending

The villain this time has way more sympathetic cause than Makishima, however deluded it is. It's good that we're not just getting another Makishima.
Also, it looks like some people compared the irises of the Therapist with the iris of the inspector from episode 1 who got injected, and they have that some weird pattern. The whole scene with the therapist did have a very strange atmosphere, so he's probably already under Kamui's control? |

Well, that was a good mystery, though I wish someone on this police force would take Sherlock Holmes' words to heart that "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." The answer keeps staring them in the face, but of course their complete trust in Sybil has made them unaware of the fact that Kirito Kamui, our villain here, is completely invisible to the system. In fact, not even the cameras are picking him up. It's almost as if her really IS a ghost. Also, like Makishima before him, he presents another issue with the Sybil System: if a person can change their hue at will, what does that mean to the detection system that Sybil is based on?
And Kamui seems to be an interesting villain, especially as he's made it personal by coming to Akane's home to leave her a message. However, the fact that he wishes her to sympathize with him and then gets all emotional at the bomber's death, takes him down a couple of tiers from Makishima's level, but he's still a good villain for what we've got, and those were huge shoes to fill anyways. Also, does Tougane remind anyone a lot of Kougami? It's like he put on a different face and voice but everything else is still there. His fight skills, his smoking habit...it's just kind of weird.... And from that shot in the OP, I wonder if there's a connection? Quote:

One of the big questions I have is how continuous this second season is plot wise with the first considering the change of staff. If it is continuous, I have to wonder whether Kamui is in fact already a part of the sybil system, i.e. one of the brains, or was part of it. Clearly from the 1st season a procedure exists for tackling those who are criminally asymptotic, and if its only that I would have guessed Sybil would have contacted Akane to do the needful again. I'm also really curious to see whether there have been more interactions between Akane and Sybil, and what their interactions this time around are going to be like.
I will say this though, it looks like we will get into the nuts and bolts of the sybil system a little more this time around. Just please, please don't make Kamui into a good guy Kogami version 2.0 when it turns out sybil is the big baddie Quote:
The other thing is, though it was only speculation, the extreme degree of isolation makishima felt from the sybil system ( It's also implied that the system couldn't really 'place' him in society) led him to act in extreme ways. Eventually it warped him into one of the better nutters I've seen in shows. It was a far cry from the usual angsty revenge or world destruction/domination motives which was pretty refreshing, and well executed. Last edited by oompa loompa; 2014-10-17 at 03:38. |

Well, I'm quite satisfied so far of PP2. I'm getting the same vibes from the show, despite Akane upgrade, that has its pros and cons. On the other hand not really committed yet, I have to see who this Kamui is.
In any case I like the idea that Sybil is trying to give Akane a surrogate of Kougami though Togane. Counting also the odd habit of her of using cigarettes as scented candles I'm instead a bit sceptical about this whole "oh, but he could have come clear again" thing. I mean, it's a bit of weak thought, since it implies that I could kill one person, rising my PP coefficient and then clear my hue over and over again.

Do Yayoi starting to have an Harem?
And I'm very welcoming to the future return of Saiga - The Investigators need someone who does not only parrot the established technology that is in their eyes deemed flawless. Quote:
Perhaps she is trying to emulate Kogami, so I presume Cigarette smell do soothes her, since in stressful times she's trying to think like Kogami did, even though she's not able or want to really take smoking. |

Kirito Kamui, lol. That's like being called Tatsuya Jesus. It's very redundant. Let's hope he doesn't live up to his name. Godly characters are boring. So far, he seems interesting. He's apparently very different from Makishima, which is a good thing, although their goals may be the same: freeing Japan from Sybil. Or perhaps his goal is simply to reform the system so that people with high crime coefficient won't be considered a lost cause anymore? In the first place, it's dubious that so many people are considered beyond all help.
So WC? means "What color?", huh? I wonder if Japanese viewers go that. I don't think it would have hit me without the subs, so I was surprised Akane figured it out so easily. What I first thought of last week was Water Closet, just like Ginoza (shut the fuck up, Mika), but I knew it made no sense. Akane is a really good team leader. She knows how to make the best use of everybody's abilities, and she doesn't mind criticism. The only black sheep is Mika, she isn't contributing anything worthwhile and is in fact holding everybody else down. The only person she listens to is Yayoi because she has a lesbian crush on her. And although she may listen, she doesn't follow her advice because she thinks she knows better than everyone. She's worse than Gino ever was in the first season, but I'm sure she can still be redeemed. It's only the second episode, after all. Nevertheless, I really hate her guts so far. The other new characters are good. Togane is Kogami 2.0, and Sho showed potential. I wonder if anybody is ever going to address Sho having the same voice as Makishima, or if it's going to have the slightest relevance.

Well, Akane figured it out because the guy had just said his accomplice's name, and then asked the question. It makes it easier to piece together when you know a statement has a connection.
That said, I agree, Water Closet was my second guess. First was World Corrupt (you know, engrish). As for Sho, so far he has the same actor, but his voice doesn't sound anything like Makishima's. At least, in those few scenes we got of him. |

Episode 2 is better than expected.
I was relieved that seems new Makishima has not the same personality of old one. And I like Akane who was smoker, actually. It was unexpected completely. My this feeling is almost moe. |

So our new antagonist is named Kirito Kamui. So far I get the impression that his goal is rid people of the belief that people that the system has judged to have high crime coefficients are lost causes and can not be saved.
Akane is showing herself to be a good leader as she is making good use of everyone's skills and they all seem to respect her. Well except for maybe Mika. Togane and Sho also got some screen time and are cool guys so far. I see another girl has been charmed by Yayoi. That therapist does seem a bit suspicious though.
