Extreme old thread, but the BD came out today, and I finally had a chance to see it...
Spoiler for Some plot spoilers:
The story is problematic: they tried to cram too much in the allotted time, and the chemistry between the characters suffers a lot as a result. At the end of the movie I was still wondering why the characters decided to do certain things considered they interacted very little, looking at the big picture. Doesn't help that the movie doesn't seem to understand what it wants to be. Musical? Some sort of sentai-inspired battle? Exploring certain young girls issues? Certain events simply "happen" for no reason and aren't really explained properly. The plot moves too fast as well and makes little sense. Technically the movie is well done, even the CG parts are good (mostly the dancing parts), the BGMs are good and most of the performance of the VAs are spot on. Too bad about the rest. Also, the movie seems to set up a sequel or sorts Spoiler for Movie ending:
I'm not sure this part was shown during the theatrical release or not, but as of now the tease does nothing to make look forward a continuation of the story. In short, the movie is a mess. It's a mish-mash of different things, doesn't know what to do with its premise and most of the characters lack any sort of chemistry. I was actually interested in the premise but I was extremely disappointed by the end result. |

I forgot to add that this would have worked better as a multi-part OVA or a short TV series. There's simply too much stuff crammed in. A shame because as I said the production values are good.
Now maybe I'm too harsh on it and I expect people to have less issues with the movie as I had and actually enjoy it for what it is. |
