The manga 'Mahou Shoujo Tokushuusen Asuka' (also konwn as Magical Girl Special Operation ASUKA) is getting a TV anime adaptation. Liden Films is the studio.

Plot

Due to the invasion of Disas, enigmatic creatures of soil from the land of the dead, mankind, who was on the verge of crisis, was saved by the efforts of magical girls who had obtained a mysterious magical power.

Three years later, new incidents suddenly occur, tearing apart the normalcy of the girls who had each returned to their normal lives. The saviors of humanity, those magical girls called "the Legendary 5 (The Magical Five)" now live each day fighting for their lives, even as they are trifled with by fate.

I still hoped for a better animation level but it was not as bad as I feared. Also, it is quite faitful to the manga as of know. And the second ep should be even more creepy.

It's sad how you can tell just from one profile shot how much better the designs are in the manga. That said, I did like Asuka as a character, and now that I think about it, she's surprisingly human for someone who clearly went through so much, so at least we have a nice but not naive girl as the protagonist, which is good.

It looks like a karambit, but I think she called it something slightly different...

The karambit is an interesting weapon in action.

TBH: I'd have preffered if it was, MG returned from war and suffering from PTSD trying to blend into the normal civilian life it was before the sudden swerve into edge right at the end

Um, episode was pretty violent. the heroine is not shy in dismembering her enemies. fortunately having a woman killing people violently does not go against what modern society considers acceptable, so there should be no censorship in the version crunchyroll.

Anyway, this first episode could've been done better but it's still decent nonetheless. Will try the next 2 episodes.

She tried hard to fit into everyday life but she cannot escape the past whether it's PTSD or just all the darkness, blood, violence and non stop fighting will never leave her. I liked watching Asuka in action, she is very badass and took care of those terrorists nicely, I guess it's good to have a friend who is a magical girl who can protect you from harm. Looks like the Disas might still be around though, the queen and her pets look incredibly dangerous, also noticed those body parts on that cube, are those the severed remains of Asuka's parents? Looking forward to the next episode. Suffering from her own memories and just understandable PTSD. A kid that grew up in a horrible field of battle and lost too much along the way. I'm completely understanding why she wanted to turn down going back. That she'd given too much and should be able to just 'retire'. But like many superheroes she's left with the reality that the world keeps turning. And while she might have wanted to stop having to fight...the world will just drag her back in. They handled this pretty well. Definitely on the side of more serious magical girl action, but I felt like they went at it properly. Hitting the fear of any super powered character in having their loved ones targeted. And Asuka was a solid lead. She's weighed down by her past, but that's understandable. Still has a drive in her to take action, but an understandable drive to stay out of it. Having something to protect brought her back out to fight. __________________ Anime-Evo
