Sorcerous Stabber Orphen Anticipation

A new anime project 'Sorcerous Stabber Orphen' announced. Coming for 2019.

Plot
Quote:
Six years ago at the magic school known as the Tower of Fang, a grave accident happened involving the magical sword Baltanders and the magic user Azali. Unable to control the sword's power, Azali was transformed into the shape of a great dragon who since that day became known as Bloody August. Krilancelo, a young magician at the Tower who cared greatly for Azali found much to his disgust that the elders of the Tower of Fang were less than willing to save Azali and wanted rather to pretend the accident never happened. Angered by their stand, Krilanceloa swore that he would find a way to return Azali to her former self. Thus he forsook the name Krilancelo and declared himself Orphen, leaving the Tower and his magical studies behind to wander the world...

This good old story gets a new anime too? All these new anime announcements (Karakuri Circus, City Hunter, Boogiepop, etc) are really banking on nostalgia. Are they running out of self-insert waifu-driven power-fantasy action-harem or otaku-isekai materials to adapt? Not that I'm complaining. Many of these old stuffs are good and deserve proper anime adaptations or reboots.

Let's hope this won't end up like the new Hoshin Engi or early seasons of SMC.

The series was finished like only 3 years ago, so it is not super old.
The author also hasn't wrote arc 3 yet, so who knows if he'll come back to wrote that.

But crap, by that logo, the anime will be about arc 1 & 2.
I want to see arc 4 animated instead...

Also, they better not change any of the VAs. I'll be pissed if they dare to.

Umm...please correct me if I'm wrong, but...
  • The Slayers x Orphen novel started in 2005 and haven't gone anywhere since
  • The Haguretabi & Mubouhen novels finished in 2003
  • The manga ended in 2001
  • The old anime TV series finished airing in 2000
It might not be super-old but Orphen is old when it comes to general audience.

The arc 4, the Primal Continent arc was finished in 2015.
So no, it is not super old.
Not mention the publisher is pushing arc 4 really really hard.
They are even reprinting the entire arc 4 since last year under bunko format.

Waitaminute, the author haven't wrote arc 3, but arc 4 is already finished?

Anyway, I didn't say that it's super-old. I only said that it is old for the general (anime) audience, since the last time they saw an Orphen anime was back in the 2000. That's 17+ years ago mind you.

Yes, the man skipped ahead to arc 4 after he finished the after story of arc 2.

So the fans were waiting for him to come back to do arc 3 in someday. Or the post arc 2 civil war that he didn't went into the detail.

Still waiting for something more substantial for Utena 20th anniversary besides the musical, anyway, never thought to see Orphen animated this period as well

We kinda gets it with the still-airing Grancrest Senki anime within the Lodoss universe, but that series is not handled well at all. It looks pretty and has some interesting aspects in it but everything else is a mess.

I hope it's not a rehash of season 1. I'm happy that they're making a new series, but I kind of like to see the rest of the story like Arc 4.

....No.

Anyway, this is a huge shock. Hopefully this gets a decent length adaptation 'cause I never got to watch the original.

I just hope he does some of the things he does in the ORIGINAL original opening

this one:
YouTube
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

I remember I first caught the opening(as a trailer), and was SUPER disappointed it had no action of that caliber; no sword use, no cool acrobatics, nothing >=01. I mean, I still thought it was okay, since I had played and enjoyed the ps2 game before it, but man, did that get to me.

Yeah, I was also upset by the lack of swordsmanship on Orphen's part, but there were some cool acrobatics and I loved the original first season opening, as well as Kimi wa majutsushi and Last Kiss. They were what lured me to the first season and got me hooked on it.

The only theme song I liked out of the second season were the two openings, I guess. Definitely the first opening more than the second.

I think it's been a trend of the last 7 years at least to just revive the old stuff that worked. Cardcaptor Sakura, Dragon Ball Z, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Lupin The Third, Fist of the North Star, Berserk, Space Battleship Yamato, Digimon, Godzilla, Arslan Senki, HunterxHunter, Parasyte, Ushio to Tora and Devilman. That's all off the top of my head.

To a lesser extent there’s Eureka Seven, Last Exile, Ghost in a Shell, Fullmetal Alchemist and the Universal Century Gundam Timeline.

For the record this has also been a trend in Hollywood ever since Marvel slowly took over so it wouldn't surprise me if there was a link there somewhere.
