The official English site for Maiko-san is up. The series will air internationally on NHK World starting February 25. Also, please watch the trailer in the website. It's a substantial improvement over the first PV.

Episode 3:
Anyway, it actually didn't occur to me that Kiyo is a maiko-in-training even though I'm sure they said that only maikos (and special assistants) can enter a maiko dorm. Kiyo was simply a better fit for housework than general maiko duties, I guess. Moving on, holy cow, the oyakodon and bite-sized cutlet sandwiches look delicious. On the flipside, this episode had some somber moments with Kiyo having to leave behind her grandmother on the journey to Kyoto and that close call that almost ended her times together with Sumire. The previous dorm cook's back problem was what saved the moment. Sumire needs Kiyo as much as Kiyo needs Sumire, especially as her debut dawns near.

Is this really the only thread for this show?
I've enjoyed Maiko-san over its run, but with the group picture at the end of episode twelve it looks like the series has come to an end. I laughed while watching the maiko drool over the garlic that they cannot eat. I like garlic, but not to that level of obsession. For what it attempted, I thought this was a pretty well-done series. I was impressed that the NHK allowed a line in an earlier episode that suggested the clients of the maiko visit them because they don't want to go home to their wives and kids. J.C. Staff can be very variable, but this show fit them well. Some of the exteriors in the OP and ED are quite lovely.

This one's absolutely worth the watch. I ended up waiting until this year to watch all the episodes at once, but I can imagine that with a month between episodes, this one would've easily been forgotten.

Honestly you couldn’t have picked a worse manga to adapt as a monthly anime, IMO. It just moves at a glacial place, and you have to really be into the whole CGDCT trip to gel with it. I read ahead some distance in the manga just out of curiosity to see if anything ever actually happened. And it does - in recent volumes a certain character becomes much more important and the series actually starts to have a really engaging plot. But at the rate the anime was going it wouldn’t have gotten there till about 2029.

I have fallen in love with the depictions of Kyoto in anime and this love was one of the reasons why I picked up Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san. (You can also say that I wanted to forget that the "Kyoto" in the Holmes of Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou exists, lol.) And luckily, despite the questionable approach to the animation of the series, the adaptation held up quite nicely. We learned about the life of a maiko—their restricted lifestyle, their responsibilities, their role in the neighborhood, as well as their few moments outside of their duties—and it was just as colorful as Kiyo's variety of dishes she prepared for the maiko house's occupants.
To be honest, it was quite the commitment to keep up with the monthly schedule of the series, but it paid off in the end. ENTRY #432 GET.
