This was announced for March 27 (oddly enough), btw.

First episode is up on Crunchyroll.

Great to see everyone back again but honestly, I think the previous OP theme songs are better than this season's.

So they start with car theft and underage, unlicensed driving.

I guess its necessary for new viewers but stopped paying attention to these recap/intro/filler episodes long ago (especially since they do this most seasons). I barely remember the opening, neither the music nor the animation (although its obvious this isn't one of the bigger arcs).

No idea if this is the first time they showed Endeavor during the overview (as the #1 hero) or I just didn't notice before, but nice that they update that (particularly after his strong showing at the end of last season).

Anyway, at least at the end of the episode they went back to the important stuff.

Ah, yes. They have to have an episode where they tell us each character's name and quirk again, even though that information is shown on screen every time they appear. They must think we have Alzheimer's.

I'm glad they at least managed to have some fun with this episode even if it was mostly there to catch everyone up and show off Class A's quirks once again. Is it necessary? I can't imagine it is. You either know the show or you shouldn't be starting the show with season 5! But they seem to think this is necessary so fine. I'm a bit unsure if this isn't just deflating the power levels of the Big Three as a whole. Mirio is literally de-powered so that's fine, but I'd say the other two should have put up a better fight.

Honestly the best thing I'd take away from the episode is that Shoto has really matured. Before he'd have lost his head over the idea that he should be proud of his father. And honestly I'm not sure pride is something that will ever be 100% there considering the horrible acts Endeavor has committed. But at least Shoto has calmed down and can more objectively gauge the work related strengths his father has and if he can be proud of anything it would be that.

The OP/ED combo is pretty forgettable. Maybe they'll grow on me.

Have no real interest in a recap episode so this season officially starts next episode.

So like the first episode of the season animation felt a little janky at times, though I suppose it's because it's the first episode and all.

That's better, back to the main story. Hawks sure has a complicated balancing act, and doesn't help that both sides suspect him already, though Endeavor seems to signaling support, so that's a good sign for him.

Too bad Endeavor's family situation is still really messed up, and he knows it. At least Shouto's keeping calm in his presence, that's a big change for him.

After how last season ended on that tease, nice to finally see Deku's flashback animated, to see how One For All began. Too bad next week is back to school stuff after all this other big stuff.

I hope you enjoyed this episode, because there won't be any as good as that one for a long time. The upcoming arc is the worst in the series IMO.

Gotta say, I really kind of love Natsu. I don't know if he's supposed to be considered a bad factor in all this, but honestly he made some good points during his outburst. A lot of bad happened. That whole family was created out of a bad motivation. I'm good with the idea of trying to redeem characters and Endeavor shouldn't be excluded from that. But you can't just have everyone forgive the guy and pretend nothing ever happened. That stuff has to be worked through and bad feelings have to be aired for there to be any hope of legitimate growth.

I'm glad to see Shoto having a fairly mature outlook here. He's faced a lot of his darkness and is stepping forward. He can absolutely appreciate the greatness of the hero Endeavor, but he can't forget what the man behind him did either. He's not going to cut away any hope for change. But he's not going to just flip and forgive everything either. It'd be crazy that something that drove Shoto to such intense feelings of anger could be washed away in an instant.

It's good stuff.

The real start of S5, and some great Horikoshi writing - he excels at this stuff. Ohtsuka Akio is so good as All For One that he should be illegal. As for Natsuo, I never got the sense that he's being made out to be the bad guy here. He's the one expressing the common sense viewpoint.

Joint Training Arc isn't the best IMHO, but it's perfectly fine. You can't have this kind of intensity every week or it would wear the audience out.

I'm even more bored with this arc in the anime than I was reading the manga... probably because this is the second time I have to go through it. How can a shounen do an arc with ZERO stakes so far into the story?

It's not a training arc...it's a training showing off arc .
