Where's the poll?
[EDIT] Okay, I can see the poll now. Personally, I find the forum is a little bit slower than it used to be. Pages used to load almost instantly but now I usually have to wait a second or two for each page to load. |

edit: ahh there it is And now that you mentioned it, I do notice a speed increase, or is it just because there's not enough people online.

i can't tell yet, i'll vote soon tho when i can draw a conclusion.
EDIT: well, it takes a second or 2 longer than it used to, but it is rather consistant. in the old forums, it was randomly slow or lighting fast. so i guess the consistantcy makes up for the extra second, i'll say equal. Last edited by HoboGod; 2004-07-25 at 20:40. |

It's much faster now. I wait for little to no time now. I use Internet Explorer in case you're wondering. All hail Internet Explorer and it's "Better-Than-AOL" skillz!
EDIT: ONE PROBLEM! For some reason it won't load some pages all the way. This is third time this happened to me so far. Last edited by OutPhase; 2004-07-26 at 12:13. |

Apache 2 combined with Php 5 is not that high in my wish list. I believe you know what I mean by that.

Checked a few posts on vB's community forum. You can have as much as 20%-30% speed
increase by simply dumping PHP 5 and installing good-old PHP 4.3.8 And I'm not sure how up-to-date this particular page is, but take a look at the warning at the top of this page: http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.apache2.php Now I'm only very much a part-time system admin, but if you ask me, the best combo would be: Apache 1.3.31 + PHP 4.3.8 -- Fast & Stable Then again, the avatar issue was quickly solved, so I doubt it had anything to do with either Apache 2 or PHP 5, but was merely a permission/restriction issue... Oh well, time will tell. |

PHP Accelerator gave a nice boost to a site I was running. That wasn't really a busy site, but it was unfortainly running on a far too slow server. Nowdays I'm using turck mm-cache for that site, mainly since php accelerator hasn't been updated for a while, and it's running smoothly. As for using PHP5, I'm not really sure if any of the accelerators are working with it unfortainly (php accelerator certainly won't, even Zend's commerical accelerator hasn't PHP5 among the supported versions). I noticed a note about mm-cache working with one of the betas, so I'm going to test it with PHP5 on a test server for myself. |

Has anyone tried the free Zend Optimizer with php5? So far the FAQ page still mentions php4 so I doubt if it has support for version 5.

As for apache and memory usage, synce you are at apache 2, I assume you have tried/is using the worker mpm instead of the default prefork mpm? I wouldn't be able to tell if I find the forums any faster atm cause my upload is almost saturated from bt atm =) |
