The link is fine, although I disabled the download window in Firefox and didn't realize it was downloading until MPC popped up with the video.
The robot is amazing though. If I did not know the facts, I would never have thought that was a robot. Next they'll have to recreate Chii... |

Its powered by compressed air, and the mechanisms to do that can not be shrunken enough to fit inside a humanoid body. Not a male skeletal structure, and definately not a female.
I saw something about this a few months ago. Interesting, but..Meh...Seems like a pointless avenue for research, Unless they are using the mechanisms to develop better limbs for amputees or something |

I seriously I find it weird it has no real use. Oo" People are better off focusing it on making better artificial limbs for those who lost their limbs. I dont think this will be used for that. |

Thanks for letting me know about this. Wow...nice to see some improvements with the Repliee series! Certainly looks a lot more human-like than Q1, and if they could fix the movement and lip-sync issues, it might even pass off as a human. There's two more videos below in the official site.
I'm impressed by these guys, as they've taken android development much further than anyone else has ever dared to go. There's always such a stigma when it comes to developing humanoid robots, so I'm glad Japan's weird perversity is actually useful for once in the progress of technology. Can you imagine what this will be like in 10 to 20 years? If you can't, just go watch Chobits. And if you need another reason what purpose this would serve, think about this - lifesize dolls are already being sold by both Japanese and western companies, and it is quite a serious business. What kinda bugs me though is how they're always trying to make it look human, making it still look freaky. I wish someone would make one with a more anime-like robot and Kigurumi shows this is definitely possible. I've actually been thinking of making a Serio or Chachamaru animatronic head for a while now... |

I was reading an article in The Econimist the other day about this and the robot convention being held that was very interesting. It basically said that robots were being made so that Japs didn't have to hire Phillipinos for cheap labour. The reasons they didn't want to hire were pretty funny too.
1. Language barriers 2. Potential problems with honorifics..lol 3. Japanese were becoming more and more internalised and would prefer to ask a robot instead of a human for directions. Anyway I think they should hire teh Phillipinos, considering they have like a 99% pure blood line which has a resulted in a older population and a horribley low birth rate. |
