I am in a very dark and bloody mood now( I have been watching to much cutesie lately) So I am looking for something along the lines of NANA or elfen leid something serious or dark. I might also watch somethting yuri or Shojou ai at the moment not a friendship but deep like strawberry panic. These are the series I loved in case you need any ideas of what to suggest

For something yuri, if you prefer a deep relationship then I guess Kannazuki no Miko fits. If you want something a little toner yuri, then try Maria-sama ga Miteru. As for something dark, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Jigoku Shoujo, or Gunslinger Girl.
--> I 2nd Tsukihime btw

For some reason, I always find it difficult to suggest Higurashi no Naku Koro ni when people are looking for dark/bloody/etc. anime because they need a break from overly cute anime, but I still find it in myself to suggest it.

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito
Has a yuri premises and some suggestive scenes. Baccano! I wouldn't say that's dark, but it's certainly bloody! This show is "serious"ly good fun. :P Shingetsutan Tsukihime I second this for a dark atmospheric show. Not even close to the game but for those who haven't played the game, the anime may be enjoyed more easily :P. Kannazuki no Miko Is full blown yuri, while I don't like how the anime is presented (mechalulz), the yuri theme is what I really enjoyed and recommend it for. Gankutsuo Not really dark, but certainly not cute either, this would fit the serious category. Themes of hate and revenge. :D Jigoku Shoujo & Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori An episodic anime, first season is, I have not seen the second, but contains themes about darkness in humans. Lots of hate, revenge, human nature etc. situations. Claymore A serious show about isolated individuals who slay demons. Although it becomes very shounen style (power up and defeat next boss) starting midway if I remember correctly. To sum it up in an equation: [blood + demonslaying - fanservice = Claymore] Higurashi no Naku Koro ni & Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai A horror anime with brutal murders and certainly dark atmospheres. However there is also happy joyous aspects infused. Be wary that this is not a straightforward anime in a linear sense. These are few I can recall off the top of my head. |

Oh yeah, I almost forgot Gankutsuou! And Le Portrait de Petit Cossette! And the Soultaker! The 3 kings of goth anime!
Also, i'd barely call Gunslinger Girl dark. It has probably the most messed-up themes in all anime (besides Black Lagoon I guess) but it's hardly dark - brooding maybe. |

I second Blue Drop although the yuri in it is more suggestive. It doesn't seem that serious until the end. |
