Romance with aliens:

Crest/Banner of the Stars is a classic.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu is also a well-respected contender.
Oh! Edo Rocket is an often hilarious, yet also serious comedy. Less romantic than UFO.

All of them are licensed, I'm afraid.

As for vampire shows, I'd suggest Kurozuka. It has time travel (sort of) as well.

ToLoveRu (second time I've recommended in a night after never having done so, ironically) fits the bill - the female lead is an alien.

Ok, I totally forgot the name of the anime. But there is a funny, and romantic anime with a very cute space alien, who wears like a tiger bikini and lives on another planet. The guy she takes interest in is totally disinterested in her, and he happened to be born on Friday 13th, so he's full of bad luck...

One of you vets probably know what it is. I use to watch it with my ex a lot, but the name completely slips my mind.

Yes, the legendary Urusei Yatsura by Rumiko Takahashi, who's more known among contemporary anime fans for the unfortunately rather mediocre Inuyasha. It is before my time (waaaay before my time), but Lum, Miss Tiger Bikini as you put it, was the quintessential anime babe of her day. And an alien, of course.

Otherwise I do definitely second Oh! Edo Rocket. The alien girl reminds me very much of the beloved Eureka.

Onwards to vampires, which the OP says is sorta okay: try Vampire Knights. I'm told the anime's second season has its own problems, but I don't really know that first hand since I only read the manga. Warnings: 1) it's melodrama 2) it's shoujo melodrama.

Beat me to it, Lum first came to mind for me
Retro style anime, but fits your request

Not sure how you'd find such an old anime though, save buying it...

Shame on me for forgetting my beloved Oh! Edo Rocket - the lovable Sora is indeed a sexy space alien. She looks a lot like Eureka but don't be fooled - the similarity is superficial only (not that there's anything wrong with Eureka).

Maybe Dears? You've a female alien lead there. I wouldn't call it romance as much as sexual tension, but it is something people like...alot like Chobits if you've seen that.

Iriya isn't licensed outside of Japan as far as I know.

Ah that was the name! Her name was Lum as well...I shouldn't of forgot. I would watch it with my ex tons of times.

Wow, you're right. It's actually right here on AS. When I saw UFO some years ago, it was one of a number of series I watched from a tracker that also had licensed material. I thought UFO was one of the licensed ones. Thanks for the correction, Cosmic Eagle! I think I'll watch it again now. I'd give you rep, but you've got one of those black dots there.

I swear.....this title really deserves more recognition. Best anime I've watched in my entire life.

Ugh no, no, no. lol. That movie is so unintelligent; and romance is a bare approximation, the common denominator of a hundred other adventure films. I watched the 2 minute trailer and knew exactly what was going to happen in the movie, and it happened--everything happened--with no surprises whatsoever.

I don't particularly care if a movie is predictable, but I at least like my expectations to be tricked up a little in the execution of the predictability... but if Avatar tapped you on the right shoulder it would always be standing on your left...

Although that isn't exactly romance more like space adventure.
