I would agree with relentless - watching the end of season 1 would go a long way in understanding some elements of the story. End of DCSS is not really required, though would help to show the state of relationships some characters had between them, but not nearly as required as end of season 1. (Sakura, Nemu and Junichi being the important characters in both seasons, Aisia in SS, but i don't expect her to have any importance related to Da Capo II plot).

For me, D.C. was quite enjoyable... Da Crappo S.S. was some sort of offence, with the stupid objective of the whole season: To Love Yunichi...

But this one alrealy has kicked my balls. The plainest characters EVER! to me all of'em looks like those finger people in Digi-charat. Also, the characters design remindsme of those cheap hentai mangas... the music was like... there was music to begin with? never mind, I don't care that much.

Also, I was like... "who was the main char again? oh! you!... no, wait, that is just another character of the background". Now the word "plain" have a new concept.

But well, who knows. When I first saw Kanon 2002 the first chapter made me think that it was a long version of ONE, and now it's one of my fauvorite animes. I hope kokko dies soon or get seriously injuried like Haruka in KGNE, otherwise I don't see me watching this for more than 4 epis.

Uhm... lemme see... not really. That character isn't that gool to remain in the show... so let her die of suffer some sort of accident... maybe if she gets a hook instead of hand or who knows... rebuilded has a human weapon may be more interesting...

Just because they are not a good character, doesn't mean they deserve to die. Personally if that's how you react to every "bad" character, that you hope they'd die, well i fear for the japanese anime industry should they take up on your suggestion.

Personally I hope for the best for Kokko, I much prefer a relationship that is built up overtime then the wham bam I fell in love at first sight thing. Hence I was a big supporter of Nemu in S1 (I just didn't like the whole setup of their relationship in SS so preferred Kotori more). Of course the relationship has to be two sided, which I think might not be the case here .

I see no reason why people can't go from childhood friends, to realising that they love each other more then that (DC S1 is a good example) and tbh at least they will know what they are getting into.

Personally I think that Koko's relationship will fail, and the reason why it seems her wish is supported by Miss one sided love herself; Sakura, who still hasn't gotten over her thing of Junichi (or I guess she would be normal aged)

For the third time today, this episode was average. I'd like to say it was expected, but besides a robot appearing, the rest made me "-----------------------------------" in emotion. I don't know what kind of role Minatsu will play, but I hope she doesn't waste the precious time of this short series.

Things I liked about this episode:

Two characters go on my "I hate seeing your face" list: Minatsu and that stupid Makp clone...

Minatsu's intro episode covered all the same bases as in the game, though went about it in a largely different way due to time constraints. Because of one scene in particular, I think they're going to come back and continue Minatsu's story later, even though it isn't necessarily integral to the rest of the story. I don't really have that much to say about Mintasu's intro because I guess it's pretty straightforward. Having her be hidden in the school made more sense than in the cave (game), and Yume's "how the heck do you her know her?!" scene played out the same way, even though it was done differently. All in all, it's just like the character introduction episodes in the original D.C., for the most part. It should prove more important later on.

I thought the way they blended in the first steps of Yoshiyuki and Koko's relationship was interesting, and it leaves me wondering whether they're really going to go the "falling in love with someone else" route or not. At this point, it has this sort of sweet puppy love sort of flavour to it that makes me think maybe it isn't doomed? But, at the same time, we can note the trend -- things are pulling him away from Koko, which may keep his relationship at this plateau, and that's not a good thing. At this point, I still suspect there'll be some sparks when he meets Nanaka.

In terms of Otome and Yume... the more it goes on like this, the less of a role I think they'll have. They just have this sort of "minor character" feel at this point, especially with the way they reacted to news of Yoshiyuki's relationship to Koko (which played out a lot like the scene in the OP). So I don't know what that means... they can technically go into the Otome story without developing her character all that much, but will it work? And they could find a totally different way of telling Yume's story, but will it be as interesting? Or will they do something different? Will episode 13 really be the end, or will the movie tell another story? So many questions...

So, all in all, this episode served to introduce Minatsu, which was needed, but it isn't particularly exciting (it was a bit more fun in the game, but that's mostly because they had more time to spend on it -- this was just too quick, but it couldn't be helped) -- just as in past D.C. anime, I expect the real "meat" of the story to come later.

Oh yeah, and more game fanservice from the alarm clock in the background in Yoshiyuki's room -- that audio clip is straight from the game. All in all, they're definitely sending a lot of winks and nods to game players (which makes sense, since the main writer wrote scenarios for the game too), but I'm just not sure where they're taking the story yet.

Next episode: "First Lesson". It doesn't seem like a title that particular fits any of the game scenes that I can remember, so we'll see...

hmm this is kinda off topic but i was wondering if you actually need to watch the earlier prequels in order to understand Da Capo II since i'm considering watching it

Just read back the end of the last page for some answers. I think the consensus is basically you don't need to, but some aspects would definitely make more sense if you do.

You don't have to but like relentless says, some aspects such as the Sakura tree, Sakura ect would make a little more sense in DCII.. Offcourse in the end it just comes down to the people who have watched the previous Da Capo anime to have more of an advantage as to guessing what's happening here... An example would be:

Sakura is still young, those who watched the previous Da Capo animes would note that Sakura did not age because of the promise with Asakura and the Sakura tree.... This leads you to question why Sakura is still this young, which gets you to come to the conclusion that the power of the Sakura tree hasn't completely withered away or reborn in some way. It's these little tidbits from the original anime that may make you ask questions, present mysteries and giving clues as to what's going on.

All in all i feel by watching the previous DC you would end up enjoying DCII more as the DC anime would provide a little background to the premise of DCII..

Anyway like relentless says it's a matter of choice and i'm sure some of the questions that would come up if you hadn't watched DC will still be answered eventually, just that the original watchers would have the upper hand right up until near the end of the anime.

My way of guessing which girl is going to win is to look at the order they are listed in in the cast credits on the website: Otome, Yume, Nanako, Koko, Anzu, Minatsu. I don't know if my method works, but that list might at least suggest who is going to get most screen time. I enjoyed the bench scene with Yoshiyuki and Koko.

I was thinking about something like this last night, actually.

It's interesting to consider the progression of robot characters in the genre, from Multi, to Miharu, to Mintasu. They've sort of evolved to fit the trends of the time, with tsundere being the new "in thing". But deep down, they're very similar characters, and pretty equally likeable once you get to know them.

Mintasu is a whole lot of fun, and I actually liked her character in the game a lot more than I thought I would. Once the anime's over, be sure to check out the summary I wrote in the game thread. I do think they nailed her character in the anime as well, so was quite pleased with that.

This is actually the same order as the game and all other official merchandise that I can recall. I guess it's sort of the "canon character order".

If it seems like I didn't like the episode, that wasn't the case -- although it seemed a bit rushed (probably because I'm subconsciously comparing it to the game), I did like the episode and the treatment of Mintasu is bang on. Minatsu's a wonderfully fun character, and I really hope they continue with her story later.

I read that Otome was labeled as the Main lead (heroine) for this.
MAybe someone knows something we don't.

Well, they never said much of anything regarding the anime (as they were trying to keep it a surprise/secret). I'm pretty sure most were assuming Otome would end up being the main heroine because of the game (and the fact that she's also the most popular D.C. II character on most polls). We also know that the person who wrote the game scripts for Otome and Yume is working on the anime script. But I'm pretty sure that's all anyone knows at this point.

ahh...a pretty average ep which is somewhat expected from this series. As usual we need the male lead to increase the size of his harem before actually making the choice - such a classic formula we have seen so i wouldnt be surprised if the next few eps focused on different girls, different situations but all lead to the same thing: they all begin to fall in love with the male lead (whos name i cant spell because it is dam difficult to remember ).

minatsu is a breath of fresh air for 2 reasons.

1) she is a tsundere
2) she hates banana (with the irony that she needs them to function).

But again the plot seems predictable - i just knew that she will "hate" the guy but then take a warming up to him after he saves her life (yet another classic ploy).

overall it was okey i guess.

Sticking with this for now simply because I'd like to see how they plan to implement Minatsu. Is it just a girl with odd quirks or will they try to do something more? The Multi character had some interesting attributes and Chi explored some aspects of sentience.
Chachamaru in the manga Negima is often played for gags but occasionally some interesting bits of introspection happen with Chach's self-analysis.

Basically I'm interested in examinations of the "Frankenstein conundrum" ... as articulated by the Monster in the original story.

Yeah, yeah... this is Da Capo so unless they plan on making her the centerpiece of this season there's not much of that likely to happen... but sometimes even just a few minutes of fascinating stuff can make a character memorable.

If the opening sequence suggested that Minatsu plays a major role in this anime series... I don't know if they will dwell on the main stories (the old Da Capo plot about the magical unwithering sakura tree).

I'm feeling there will be a second season this early.
