Man, Chinese new year, so brilliant! Several of my friends and I went into London to watch the fireworks, and I must say, Chinese fireworks are amazing! They lasted for ages and where very entertaining to watch. I loved them even though im not usually too partial to fireworks.
While in London, I also got me a very nice looking lucky charm, which was a gold coin talisman decorated with some Kanji and animal illustrations with a red border (for good luck of course). The only problem I found with the day was that Chinatown was very very crowded and I didnt get to see the lion dance... |

I'm hoping that everyone in China will be okay this year, with the snowstorms of the century wreaking havoc on the southern half of the country. >_> As a result, prices for commodities have doubled or more, and energy and fuel are in short supply. My elderly grandparents (80+ years) still live in China and I hope that they are well.
If anything, they should keep the money... Seriously, with a combined retirement fund of 5500 RMB ($765) a month, it's not worth it to give any to me when I live a privileged life in America, yet they insist... Every time when I go visit them (once every other year), I always leave behind the same amount of money that my grandparents try to give me at the beginning of my stay.

Well, Chinese New Year is somewhat of a misnomer, probably because many more Chinese immigrated to the US/abroad than other Asians. It is a new year based on the old lunar calendar that originated in China. Other countries also share this holiday, such as Korea and Vietnam.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone.
Well, our family is partly Chinese. There isn't giving of real cash, though we burn some chinese money (not real money of course, they're more like pieces of paper that symbolize money) to have goodluck for the rest of the year.
