I haven't watched the final ep yet and I don't want to spoil myself in the final episode by clicking on the spoilers....I just want to ask....Did the granda die a painful death like he deserves too?

Well thats the other thing the whole train scene was just so weird i agree with you it looked liked she was on the second track. Heres the real problem we saw the train incident through Takumas eyes just as he was first opening them in a long time. Plus she just disappeared doesnt anyone think thats weird? When Takumas mom got hit there was something left of her but nothing of Hayami?

Oh well I think DK is right we might be over thinking it and thats probably what was meant to happen with this (take as you will ending) plus how old Hayami looked at the end is in question. I think its take as you want i want happy so damn it im going to believe that she was dead but was given a second life as a reward for all that she had done instead of being reincarnation like Otoha she got her actual life back, call me silly call me romantic but it works for me lol

Well, they skipped out on lovey-dovey TakumaxHayami scenes, but that's just a fanboy complaint so whatever.

Anyway, definitely a nice ending. Plot twists to the end! Mama wasn't suicidal! It sucks that Hayami had to "die" to help Takuma realize this, though. >.>

I can say one thing about the game:

From Niconico Douga, there are videos for Hayami's after story. She interacts with other characters. At least, in the game, she's still alive.

But! The thing is... Does the train/Hayami scene even happen in the game? It is possible nothing like what happened in the end of the anime ever happened in the game.
And there are no videos for the actual H2O story... Why just the after story?

Ahh... the metaphorical ending. This is going to drive whatever literalists were left watching this show absolutely nuts.

Really, though, I'm not sure it's as complicated as it seems. The answer's, of course, in the poem: "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when I carried you." Otoha's re-appearance which lead to Hayami's return were a pretty clear indication of that -- "God" was carrying Takuma through his times of trouble.

Of course the exact way it happened is left to your imagination -- did Hayami actually die and get brought back to life, or was the accident simply a vision that Otoha gave him so he could accept all his past and regain his sight? Or is there some other explanation? What was really real? That's why these sorts of endings are so contentious -- while some can accept these sorts of "it's up to your interpretation" endings, others prefer to deal in absolutes. As has already been said, there's no way to know for sure, and I personally think they're going to leave it like that. Let people decide for themselves what the ending means to them.

Personally, I liked the ending. I think it fit the story and the show. The way it played out was quite well-done, I thought. I think it's the sort of show that'll be interesting to watch again to look for clues and other meanings -- maybe come up with some new interpretations of events as it relates to the show's theme. So while the show certainly is extremely quirky, blisteringly fast-paced, and, as I said before, almost "A.D.D." in its presentation of the plot, I sort of liked it for that. It was fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to receiving the first DVD next week (and the PS2 game next month).

While the game touched on more sensitive social aspects, overall the series wasn't that shabby imho. I guess it makes sense now why no one commented on Takuma "regaining" his vision in ep1, so I think the staff should be given credit in regards to that, as that seemed to be a negative point for quite a few viewers.

Some short thoughts...
-Koshimizu's voice worked well with the student Takuma, but it felt awkward with the adult Takuma
-Hamaji's role in the game was much better than in the anime and perhaps it biased me into thinking that Hamaji was a lot more...accepting of Hayami than everyone else around her
Overall, I'd give the entire series a 7 or 7.5

Whew, I went and found the videos for H2O's game path. Watched through the last quarter of the videos to see the end and can pretty much answer you with confidence now (there are 40 parts with around 15 minutes each... no way to see them all in one going... maybe one day, I'll finish the rest of the videos...):

The whole thing about Takuma reverting to a child, Hayami leaving with him, and the train incident never happens.
Yep, rejoice everyone. No answer to the question.

-Takuma leaves for Tokyo (there is a reason, but I didn't watch that video, probably in the other 30+ parts...). Before he leaves, he talks with Hayami (hair is straight down) at that promised hill.
-Big time skip, Takuma comes back to the village and finds an older Hayami, sporting her black dress and twintails.
-Later, they talk, have fun, go to the school (they aren't in school anymore though) in nostalgia, etc.
-They part for the day. Night time.
-Hayami tries (rather, prepares to) to kill herself.
-Takuma, in his house, suddenly remembers his mother.
Unlike the anime, she did commit suicide (and, yep, the train). The reason is that she blamed herself for all of the bad things that happened to Takuma, like his eye disease and the Hirose family saying it's a curse.
-Takuma realizes what Hayami planned to do (before they parted for the day, Hayami acted similar to his mother in a few ways) and runs off.
-Obviously, he stops her.
*insert romantic moment*
-Takuma decided to go back to Tokyo. He has stuff he has to do there, like tell his family about him and Hayami.
Hayami says she'll be waiting for him.
ED plays, with words talking about how time flows by, etc.

After Story starts here, with Hayami now living with Takuma in the city.
One freaky thing...

Yui seems to have ended up falling for Hayami.

To be honest...for dramatic/tragic and emotional values, I think I like the way the anime played out compared to the game reading what you summerised. Maybe playing it would have a different effect but just reading about it makes the final end seems less happy and more forced. Like Teh hell with Hayami trying to kill herself like that after all these years. It makes less sense than saving a kid from being ran over by the train. And of course, the happy end of things where we see Hayami and Takuma together is too much to pass up for another seperation.

We should have figure something like this would happen given how close the two were. Arg i totally forgot about that good call. I think i might be even more disturbed now by it. Out of all the characters in H2O Hamaji becomes a dad its funny as hell but still makes you go WTF was Maki thinking but like I said all the hints were there through out the series they were always close. But then again you have to wonder what Maki sexual preference really is?

I would have liked to see if Hayami and Takuma had a child to bridge the Hirose and Kohinata familes but im still 99% satisfied with the series.

god what a crap anime lol

i cant believe i watched this to the end. the starting was okay, the middle was crap, started to go down hill then i figured ending will save it.

ending killed it lol crap :P

sorry for people who liked it but god for a series i was looking forward to... i was disappointed.

instead of just ranting ill say what i felt it missed

- the characters felt like they were platonic. all of them needed to see shrinks so to speak cause they were all mental
- the situation was unrealistic... no one would blame a kid of her age for what her parents did
- i wont spoil but god what a weird ending
- the characters all had the same personality, or multiple personalities... one day a character would be down and depressed and next they had a personality change with a char that was happy
- the adults were unrealistic

- hmm
