Good! I thought you guys gave it up because of that empty threat thing you posted before... Looking forward to see how you handle the strange way Keroro speaks.

It's got some really nice features, though, like the ability to index video by chapters (so you can skip between scenes like a DVD), include menus, and soft-subtitles (you can turn them off if you want to see the picture behind them). You can also include an arbitrary number of audio or subtitle streams. Here is an ambitious look at what the format is capable of: http://ld-anime.faireal.net/twhe2-9/

The same folks also have a very easy guide to setting up matroska support on your system: http://ld-anime.faireal.net/guide/mkv-eng

I think this format will increase in popularity as more groups look at the advantages it offers (I know I'll be using it for further sADTRW releases)
Matroska may work fine on Windows, but on the Mac it's a mess--VLC prints the subtitles on top of each other if they're longer than one line or there's more than one of them, and Mplayer OS X (at least the latest beta for OS 10.2.x) doesn't handle them either. Divx or xvid files, though, I've never had a problem playing. Matroska is nice if you want the kind of features you get with DVD authoring and don't care about screwing Mac users (3% of the market and dropping), but fansubs aren't supposed to be DVD replacements anyway.

I'm downloading the sub but from the sounds of this Matroska thing... well it sounds confusing and I'm hoping L-E or some other group releases a sub soon.

I've been following the manga from Tokyopop, the first two volumes are insane and I love it. I'm hoping the anime does the manga justice. I also hope it's not too long (maybe just 13 episodes) because the manga isn't really that long either, I think it's only like 8 volumes.

I've been dying for someone to sub this for some time since I loved the manga when MS was scanlating it.. so I'm quite pleased that a good quality group (or groups in this case) has just released it (Soldats and UA).

I just got freed for the summer this week

Can someone tell me if Soldats subbed all the onscreen text? It took a week for the typesetter for l-e to put all the signs on, haha

I actually downloaded AnimeTycoons version, and it looked really nice. Finally a chance to set the size of the subs to your own liking

The karaoke was a bit...Strange though. Only in romaji and without a translation. Problems with multibyte characters maybe? Also, the episode preview was unsubbed.

Gotta say, though, that mkv works just swell with a late version of Xine and libmatroska installed. I hope to see more of this format in the future, hopefully with some more advanced subbing capabilities (such as on-and-off cultural remarks).

Just uninstall all other codecs and install MatroskaPack 1.0.2
availible at the official site - matroska.org

includes EVERYTHING needed to play avi/mkv files perfectly [even allows playback of OGMs]
this is one codec pack that is actually GOOD, if not the best out there.

Well what did everyone think of the first ep? It had some funny parts but with all the hype I was expecting more. It was still a promising first episode and I look forward to more. I have to say the end was awesome. 70's disco music and aliens, what will they think of next?

Yeah, all of the on-screen stuff was subbed (and there was plenty of it). I can imagine subbing this show would be quite an arduous task. The first episode left me quite satisified -- definitely captured the humor of the manga.. looking forward to more.

Great first episode! What is that Kerero says at the end of each sentence?

Keroro Gunso says "de arimasu" a lot. I think that is similar to "desu".

"de arimasu" is a 'military' version of "desu".

Not really. It's just a strange quirky thing that has no real meaning. Sort of like the show
