“So it seems. What should we do next now that they throw yet another one of their attacks at us? We hardly had a day’s rest and they decided to harass us again,” Nanoha grumbled. Hayate drummed the table with her fingers and thought about it. After moments of silence, she looked at the map of Cranagan and her surrounding area of 20 square miles. “What else can we do besides finding out this weapon and destroying it? Nothing shows up on our radar means that it has to be hidden in a dense forest. I’m not sending our ships to go look for it because they are big targets. Instead, I want you to lead the sky mages for an assault on this tower. Find it and destroy it internally to ensure maximum damage,” Hayate said. “Talk about stupidity, Hayate, I think you’re trying to send us into the lion’s den with only a matchstick,” Nanoha said.

Hayate shook her head while smiling. “Matchstick? Heck, I’m giving you a bazooka. You’ll be going in with compression bombs. Our scientists recently experimented on these bombs and the bang is far greater than any of our ground-based explosives. It can function as a Terran nuclear bomb but the yield of it can be controlled. Imagine when you compress magic and suddenly trigger an explosion within the already volatile magic pool, what do you get?” Hayate asked. “A very big explosion?” Nanoha said. Hayate snapped her finger. “Exactly and that is the concept of our compression bombs. It hasn’t been used on the enemy so with this little crisis in our hands, we’re gonna show them what it’s like to mess with the TSAB,” Hayate grinned.

“Why not send ground troops? I’m sure we have many to spare,” Nanoha said again as she tried to dissuade Hayate from sending them to destroy Beowulf. “The forest is thick and that will certainly slow them down and we don’t really have many ground troops to spare. The quicker we destroy that weapon, the better,” Hayate said. “So this tower is called Beowulf…hopefully it ain’t as big as Capital Defense HQ,” Nanoha mumbled as she exited Hayate’s office, scratching her head. Nanoha was free that afternoon so she took the time to visit Fate at the hospital. “Nanoha, I heard that Vivio and Karyl were captured,” Fate said weakly as she just woke up from her nap. “Yeah but Captain Lance and a scout team are looking for them,” Nanoha said while stroking Fate’s hand. They were cold but Fate’s smile was warmer than her body was.

“I’m sure Lance will find Vivio and Karyl. He will bring them back safely,” Fate said. “You sure do put a lot of trust in him eh,” Nanoha said. “He has proven himself in battle and I heard from his friends that he never failed a mission in his entire 15 year career. He is in constant contact with me as to update on his latest findings. Currently, he is investigating a Belkan ruin that seemed intact enough to be made as a base,” Fate replied. Nanoha smiled and shrugged lamely. “They’re too predictable it seems,” she said smilingly. “I think it’s time for my physiotherapy session again. Nanoha, if you do meet up with Lance, please thank him for me,” Fate said. A nurse came in and helped Fate up slowly. She smiled at Nanoha before escorting Fate to the recovery centre. “Sure, I will thank him for you,” Nanoha said in a low voice.

At exactly 8 p.m. Mid-Childan time, hundreds of sky mages took to the skies. They used enhanced night vision to spot the things on the ground below. “This is Nanoha Takamachi; we’re heading towards the targeted location at best speed. Remain as low as you can but not below 1000 feet. It’s a dense forest we’re flying into so don’t bang into any obstacles,” Nanoha said to the mages. Higher above them was a squadron of 5 Terran jet fighters. They bear the insignia of the Aquila constellation. So obviously, they were called the Aquila Squadron, Earth’s well-known ace squadron. “So ma’am, we’re only getting help from 5 Terran aces? Isn’t this a burial detail?” a mage asked. “No, but if you want one I can always arrange with them,” Nanoha answered.

“Captain Mikhail here, are you mages doing okay down there?” a voice sounded over Nanoha’s COMM. “We’re doing well, Captain Mikhail. What do you see up there?” Nanoha asked back. There was a long pause of static and Mikhail spoke up again. “Entering a forested area. Distance to targeted location is 50 kilometers. We will scout ahead and report to you our findings. In the mean time, try to stay low. Mikhail over and out,” he said with a cool air force accent. Nanoha looked up and saw the 5 jets pick up speed and flew ahead of them, leaving behind a trail of exhaust smoke. The roar of the jet engines faded as they got further.

As they flew for an hour into the forest, they saw a red line passing over them in their monocle’s radar. “Uh, Colonel, what is that?” a mage asked nervously. Nanoha took a look and shook her head. “I’m not sure but it can’t be good,” she muttered. She took out a compression bomb and got ready. Just then, she heard Mikhail over the COMM. “Laser shot heading towards your position! Break formation!” he yelled. Nanoha broke out of the red line just in time when a crimson-purple laser streaked passed her. The laser nearly blinded her as it passed over her head and it felt as hot as an oven. The laser hit a group of mages and totally vaporized them. “That has to be Beowulf! Everyone avoid the red line that appears on your radars!” Nanoha yelled. Another laser streaked passed them and it was a clean miss.

“Mikhail, can you spot Beowulf?!” Nanoha asked. “We have visual on target, Nanoha, and we’re engaging it!” Mikhail said. Nanoha saw flashes of explosions in the distance and assumed that Aquila squadron is bombing the tower. Nanoha beckoned the mages to move forth while avoiding the laser. Another laser flew pass and hit into a nearby mountain, creating a crater as big as the TSAB HQ. “I’m glad I’m not staying there,” a female mage quipped. As they got close, they saw a gleaming tip poking out from the tall trees. It has to be Beowulf. “Mages, be advised that a forcefield is surrounding the tower. We can’t damage it externally so you’ll have to destroy it internally,” Mikhail said. They struggled to get near without getting shot and there were anarchists on the ground below.

“There has to be a way in. Look for any holes in the building so that we may enter,” Nanoha said. The mages scrutinized the building while avoiding trees and the laser. There wasn’t any entrance. The tower was meant to be a weapon, not for someone to go in. Still, it has to be maintained so there must be a maintenance hole. Nanoha got one but only one person could crawl in. “Listen, I have a bomb that will destroy the tower but only I can go in. The rest of you work with Aquila Squadron and try to distract the tower. She got close slowly and crawled into the hole. “Argh, not the damn AMF again,” she grumbled as she entered the tower’s maintenance hole. She felt claustrophobic and the hanging pipes and plasma conduits gave her the creeps as they emitted sparks and vented gas. “The sooner I get this over with the better. Hayate, can you read me?” she said over the COMM channel. There was no reply so she shrugged and continued on. Actually, Hayate was locking lips with someone and she was too “busy to reply and COMM transmissions”. Nanoha crawled into a vent and found that there was a deep drop to next the vent below. She set the bomb timer for 5 minutes and threw it down. “That should give me enough time to bug out,” she said.

She was almost half way to the exit when the timer on her heads-up display stopped. There was 1 minute left but it just stopped there. “Hey, what’s the big idea?” she mumbled. “Compression Bomb timer malfunctioned. Please detonate manually,” a computer voice sounded. Nanoha scratched her head. Did it mean using a remote or pressing the detonation button on the bomb itself? The second choice made her look like a terrorist so she assumed a remote was needed. True enough, she had the remote detonator in her pocket. The bomb was out of range. That means she has to get closer. “Another unlucky thing to my already unlucky day,” Nanoha said. She crawled closer and closer until there was a signal. She pressed the button and in that instant, the whole tower shook as the bomb exploded. Nanoha panicked and quickly crawled to the exit…wherever it was. Her radar display displayed only static so she had to rely on instinct. “This is why I hate vents and small places!” she screamed in tears as she struggled to find the exit before she was killed along.

Can she get out alive?

Of course she has to get out alive. I liked this line “Matchstick? Heck, I’m giving you a bazooka." That was hilarious. Though I find it very OOC that Hayate is not paying attention to the mission when her best friend's life is on the line and they are testing out new bombs. She would want to see the result.

Here we have an omake to RadiantBeam's "The Christmas Locket," which is really cute and sweet and which I've had such a crappy couple of days that I haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet. As usual, she wrote the story about Lutecia and Vivio, and asked me to write from Nanoha and Fate's POV while watching their daughter's smooch. Since I felt horribly guilty over this weekend's little flare-up, I wrote the following:

I seem to be lacking in Vi/Cia fluff lately, what with The Last Stand. I must remedy that!

Two things to note:

1. I'm operating on five-six hours of sleep right now, because I stayed out late because of a track meet last night. So, my brain isn't totally working right now.

2. I honestly don't remember much of anything about Lutecia's role in the invasion of Strikers. I believe one of her intentions was to retrieve Vivio, but we were never shown how she did that. This is all mainly speculation on my part.

Well, Lutecia was part of the group that attacked RF6 HQ to retrieve Vivio, so...ehh, close enough, I say. If she'd been off attacking the Ground Forces HQ that would be one thing but at least she was in the right place (Vice choked on the defense line because he didn't want to shoot a little girl like he'd accidentally done in the past).

As for the story, it's really sweet. Though I think Vivio should keep her side of it in waiting for if she wants Cia to melt into a big puddle of "Awwwwwww" *sniffle* *wuv* someday...

...

Those breadsticks get around, don't they?

Anyway, once you wrap your head around the questionable setup, and the battle actually gets going, it gets good. The diction is captivating, and the flow of tempo was fast but correctly paced, not rushed. Immersion is good.

Conclusion: Good writing, but setup needs work.

It's a nice fic, so I hate to do this to you, but what happened was not quite how you imagined it. Aina, the housekeeper, did her duty. She was holding onto Vivio until the end. Lutecia probably disabled everyone then fished Vivio out of there. She probably didn't see Lutecia blast everyone, or she might not have been so warm to her in SSX.

Nanoha hastily crawled her way towards the exit but the flames behind her were catching up fast. She had relied on her instinct to find her way out of Beowulf but it was a bit too late. Now she had merely a few seconds to clear Beowulf before the explosion brings the whole building down along with her. The AMF field was still strong so she can’t use any magic so she crawled as fast as she could towards the exit. “I hate you, Hayate!” Nanoha yelled loudly as she almost reached the exit. With one last push, she propelled herself out of Beowulf and took off. The flames burst out and almost reached her but she barely got away from being burnt to crisp. Explosions chained throughout the building followed by one massive explosion that engulfed Beowulf.

They thought it was over but when the explosion died down, Beowulf still stood but many parts of its body were up in flames. The laser emitter, however, continued to fire lasers at a faster rate but less weaker. Still, it was lethal. “What does it take to destroy that thing if a football-shaped compression bomb can’t do the job?!” Nanoha yelled out aloud. A missile streaked past her and headed towards Beowulf’s laser emitter. Hundreds of missiles followed later and impacted Beowulf. Looking towards the sky, she saw dozens of fighter jets circling the skies. Most sky mages survived the attacks and that meant they had been doing quite a good job. “Ma’am, Terran reinforcements arrived 5 minutes ago. I’m glad that we don’t have to be bait anymore,” a mage said with a sigh of relief.

“How many casualties?” Nanoha asked. “About 12 mages down and 15 more wounded. The wounded ones are stranded in the forest but Vice has arrived to pick them up. Aquila squadron survived but one of the Terran jets was shot down. 13 casualties if the pilot of that jet is counted,” he said. The number 13 wasn’t really a lucky number and Nanoha can’t help but think that more bad luck was about to befall them. Beowulf stopped firing and its shields went down. “Now it’s my turn to return the favor. Starlight Breaker!” she yelled. Raging Heart charged and fired the magic blast. The bolt shot towards the body of Beowulf and disintegrated it. The tower came crashing down, crushing the anarchists below. Those who survived were bombed by a wave of fuel bombs released by incoming B-2 Spirit stealth bombers. The explosions lit up the forest in a massive firestorm from hell and Nanoha heard cheers coming from her COMM. “Yeah, we showed those bastards who they’re dealing with. Thanks to you Nanoha, we dealt a massive blow to one of their weapons,” a bomber pilot said over the COMM.

“Nice of you guys to finish the night off with a bang. Cool fireworks display,” Nanoha said. She couldn’t see the planes as they were dark in color and they blended in with the night sky but she definitely heard their engines. “You guys came a bit late. What’s up with that?” a mage asked. She heard a chuckle and some static. “Ma’am, these bombers are a bit heavy and besides, we received late orders from Global Strike Command to assist. Sorry for the tardiness,” a pilot said in a low, husky voice. Nanoha didn’t mind. At least there is a victory after losing so many times to the anarchists. Perhaps the Terrans have their uses after all to provide heavy support. This battle with Beowulf lasted for 2 hours in reality and it drained Nanoha of her energy. “C’mon guys, let’s head back home and get a good night’s rest,” Nanoha said.

Arin banged her fist on the table. After she heard the destruction of the Belkan Point Defense Tower, she got so mad that she nearly fainted. The other knights looked at her but said nothing. “How can this be? How can those bastards destroy a weapon like Beowulf when Angel Heart can’t even destroy it?!” she yelled. Sweat beads ran down her face and there was an angry psychotic look on her face. “Why are you getting so worked up for, Arin? Wasn’t it your idea to use Beowulf in the first place? Lysenthia only supported your suggestion but she did not give the idea so who is to be blamed for the loss of Beowulf?” Mason asked. “Nanoha Takamachi…that fool of a mage did this. First she went in and detonated a bomb, and then she launched that attack of hers. She has to be killed for that,” Arin growled. Lysenthia stared at Arin and shook her head. “You marked her house with the Belkan royal family mark and that means you want her dead. So far, your efforts are only futile and Nanoha gets away all the time. There is someone more deadly than Nanoha and I don’t see you marking him for death,” Lysenthia said lamely.

“There is no one more annoying than that Nanoha Takamachi. Fate Testarossa is nothing, Hayate Yagami is nothing and even that idiot Admiral Chrono Harlaown is nothing. Terrans are weaklings and they rely on the Mid-Childans for support so they are nothing. I only want Takamachi dead!” Arin bellowed out loud. “You certainly have hot blood in that petite little body of yours. Why Takamachi when so many others are foiling your so-called plans? The one that you should really consider killing is that Terran named Lance Valentine. Even as we speak, he is looking for Vivio and Karyl and you know damn well that the two are important to us,” one knight said. Arin took a deep breath and let it out. “You’re right; maybe we should concentrate our efforts on stopping Lance first. After that, we proceed to conquering the colony,” Arin said.

Lance pulled the cocking lever of his rifle and fired a single shot towards an anarchist who had been firing on him since a firefight started. The shot punctured his head and knocked him off the platform he was standing on. “I hope that is the last of them. C’mon, let’s go and keep on searching,” Lance said to his team. The morning sun was rising and the dark sky was brightening quickly. Lance hadn’t slept for two days and he had the urge to stop and get some shut eye but he promised Fate that he will retrieve Vivio and Karyl. He couldn’t break that promise. The ruins reminded him of the castle ruins left over by the British lords of the Middle Ages except these ruins had a modern touch in them. Too bad he didn’t have a camera with him or he would have stopped to take a picture or two. “Uh, Captain Lance, are we in the right place? Besides those few anarchists who look like an expedition team, I see nothing that indicates Vivio and Karyl being here,” a scout said. He peeked over a bush and moved on.

“Hayate told me to search this little ruin. Besides, where else can they be besides ruins and hidey holes that are associated with the so-called Belkans? I for once will be surprised if they decide to hide in shady old buildings in the middle of the city or disguising themselves as powerful businessmen and women and hiding in big corporate buildings,” Lance said. “Maybe that is what they are doing,” another scout said. Just then, he stepped on a stone and plasma conduits came to life, illuminating the ruins. Nearby, a door opened and they a bus in the chamber. It was the same bus that the kidnappers used. “The rule of every villain: always hide in places where people may expect to find you and are associated with things that you like. How very predictable,” Lance said while rolling his eyes.

They entered the chamber and the door behind them closed. The chamber seemed like a dead end and there were no other entrances. “I’ve seen windowless buildings but this chamber is just plain ridiculous,” a scout said in an amused tone. Lance touched the walls but he couldn’t find anything that might open any doors or holes. “Well, that sucks,” one tall-bodied scout quipped. Just then, the walls began to close in on them. “I’m not Indiana Jones for Pete’s sake! What’s with the closing walls?!” the scout yelled out. Lance looked around him quickly and saw a hole in the ceiling. “Get on the bus! I’ll tell you what to do next!” Lance yelled. They got onto the roof of the bus and waited. “What now?” someone asked. “We wait for the walls to get closer. Once they are close enough, we scale the wall and reach for that hole in the ceiling,” Lance said. “How are we gonna do that? These are not the walls we were taught to scale in military academy, sir,” the scout continued. “I know but we scale this Hollywood style. We jump from wall to wall and that should get us up there. Our boots are made for increased friction so we don’t fall easily. Unless someone has a better idea,” Lance said. Everyone kept quiet. “Okay, when I say now, leap from wall to wall as fast as you can. Good luck,” Lance said. He quietly said a prayer and waited. 5 seconds later, he yelled the signaled and they leapt from wall to wall as fast as they could. The hole wasn’t very high up so they reached it easily. He nearly slipped but he quickly recovered and leapt into the hole. The others followed suit and entered. The last scout almost got crushed but he made it.

“Next time, sir, remind me to have you beaten up for making us do such a stupid stunt,” the tall scout said again. “It saved your life, private,” Lance said. The adrenaline rush just gave him a whole lot of energy to spend and it seems like his team got worked up too. “C’mon, let’s see what this hole has to offer,” Lance said.

I don't think that would have mattered much. Vivio seems to have adopted Nanoha's "That was then, this is now." attitude.

Heck, it's even funny from another point of view. Nanoha repeatedly gets attacked by people who want to save their precious people (Fate wanted her mother to love her, Vita wanted to save Hayate) whom she later becomes close friends with. Vivio gets attacked by Lutecia who wants to bring back her mother, and ends up as a close friend too.

Though the scenario is still possible. After we see Lutecia blast Vice, we don't see her until after she has retrieved Vivio. You could say that drones flew in after Vice was blasted (they had been making constant raids so far, no reason for them to stop) who then started thrashing the final line. During that, it's easy to assume a scenario in which Vivio got separated from Aina.

If Vice was sensibly located, then the people were down the corridor behind him. They were in a dead end, there's no where for Vivio to run even if she didn't get stunned by a drone or Lutecia with the rest of them. It's really too bad her Saint's Armor didn't activate this time. Damn plot contrivance.

Actually, the Saint Armor makes RD's story even more believable. There's no need for plot contrivance with the explanation of Lutecia talking to Vivio.

That aside, the 'corridor' they are hiding in is actually a hall, if you look at the shot right before the phase back to Lutecia, you'll see it's much broader then the hall Vice is in. And quite easy a room to go huddle in a corner.

Do well in the track meet? I like the bread sticks reference. Anyways, it was really cute. Lutecia does seem like a gentle person, even when carrying out missions, so this was fitting. Aww, Vivio's secret! As for tiny minuscule grammar errors that bothered me: You can't start a sentence with and.

Nanoha hastily crawled her way towards the exit but the flames behind her were catching up fast. She had relied on her instinct to find her way out of Beowulf but it was a bit too late. Still, it was lethal. “What does it take to destroy that thing if a football-shaped compression bomb can’t do the job?!” Nanoha yelled out aloud. A missile streaked past her and headed towards Beowulf’s laser emitter. Hundreds of missiles followed later and impacted Beowulf. Looking towards the sky, she saw dozens of fighter jets circling the skies. Most sky mages survived the attacks and that meant they had been doing quite a good job. “Ma’am, Terran reinforcements arrived 5 minutes ago. I’m glad that we don’t have to be bait anymore,” a mage said with a sigh of relief.

“How many casualties?” Nanoha asked. “About 12 mages down and 15 more wounded. The wounded ones are stranded in the forest but Vice has arrived to pick them up. Aquila squadron survived but one of the Terran jets was shot down. 13 casualties if the pilot of that jet is counted,” he said. The number 13 wasn’t really a lucky number and Nanoha can’t help but think that more bad luck was about to befall them. Beowulf stopped firing and its shields went down. “Now it’s my turn to return the favor. Starlight Breaker!” she yelled. Raging Heart charged and fired the magic blast. The bolt shot towards the body of Beowulf and disintegrated it. The tower came crashing down, crushing the anarchists below. Those who survived were bombed by a wave of fuel bombs released by incoming B-2 Spirit stealth bombers. The explosions lit up the forest in a massive firestorm from hell and Nanoha heard cheers coming from her COMM. “Yeah, we showed those bastards who they’re dealing with. Thanks to you Nanoha, we dealt a massive blow to one of their weapons,” a bomber pilot said over the COMM.

“Nice of you guys to finish the night off with a bang. Cool fireworks display,” Nanoha said. She couldn’t see the planes as they were dark in color and they blended in with the night sky but she definitely heard their engines. “You guys came a bit late. What’s up with that?” a mage asked. She heard a chuckle and some static. “Ma’am, these bombers are a bit heavy and besides, we received late orders from Global Strike Command to assist. Sorry for the tardiness,” a pilot said in a low, husky voice. Nanoha didn’t mind. At least there is a victory after losing so many times to the anarchists. Perhaps the Terrans have their uses after all to provide heavy support. This battle with Beowulf lasted for 2 hours in reality and it drained Nanoha of her energy. “C’mon guys, let’s head back home and get a good night’s rest,” Nanoha said.

Arin banged her fist on the table. After she heard the destruction of the Belkan Point Defense Tower, she got so mad that she nearly fainted. The other knights looked at her but said nothing. “How can this be? How can those bastards destroy a weapon like Beowulf when Angel Heart can’t even destroy it?!” she yelled. Sweat beads ran down her face and there was an angry psychotic look on her face. “Why are you getting so worked up for, Arin? Wasn’t it your idea to use Beowulf in the first place? Lysenthia only supported your suggestion but she did not give the idea so who is to be blamed for the loss of Beowulf?” Mason asked. “Nanoha Takamachi…that fool of a mage did this. First she went in and detonated a bomb, and then she launched that attack of hers. She has to be killed for that,” Arin growled. Lysenthia stared at Arin and shook her head. “You marked her house with the Belkan royal family mark and that means you want her dead. So far, your efforts are only futile and Nanoha gets away all the time. There is someone more deadly than Nanoha and I don’t see you marking him for death,” Lysenthia said lamely.

“There is no one more annoying than that Nanoha Takamachi. Fate Testarossa is nothing, Hayate Yagami is nothing and even that idiot Admiral Chrono Harlaown is nothing. Terrans are weaklings and they rely on the Mid-Childans for support so they are nothing. I only want Takamachi dead!” Arin bellowed out loud. “You certainly have hot blood in that petite little body of yours. Why Takamachi when so many others are foiling your so-called plans? The one that you should really consider killing is that Terran named Lance Valentine. Even as we speak, he is looking for Vivio and Karyl and you know damn well that the two are important to us,” one knight said. Arin took a deep breath and let it out. “You’re right; maybe we should concentrate our efforts on stopping Lance first. After that, we proceed to conquering the colony,” Arin said.

Lance pulled the cocking lever of his rifle and fired a single shot towards an anarchist who had been firing on him since a firefight started. The shot punctured his head and knocked him off the platform he was standing on. “I hope that is the last of them. C’mon, let’s go and keep on searching,” Lance said to his team. The morning sun was rising and the dark sky was brightening quickly. Lance hadn’t slept for two days and he had the urge to stop and get some shut eye but he promised Fate that he will retrieve Vivio and Karyl. He couldn’t break that promise. The ruins reminded him of the castle ruins left over by the British lords of the Middle Ages except these ruins had a modern touch in them. Too bad he didn’t have a camera with him or he would have stopped to take a picture or two. “Uh, Captain Lance, are we in the right place? Besides those few anarchists who look like an expedition team, I see nothing that indicates Vivio and Karyl being here,” a scout said. He peeked over a bush and moved on.

“Hayate told me to search this little ruin. Besides, where else can they be besides ruins and hidey holes that are associated with the so-called Belkans? I for once will be surprised if they decide to hide in shady old buildings in the middle of the city or disguising themselves as powerful businessmen and women and hiding in big corporate buildings,” Lance said. “Maybe that is what they are doing,” another scout said. Just then, he stepped on a stone and plasma conduits came to life, illuminating the ruins. Nearby, a door opened and they a bus in the chamber. It was the same bus that the kidnappers used. “The rule of every villain: always hide in places where people may expect to find you and are associated with things that you like. How very predictable,” Lance said while rolling his eyes.

They entered the chamber and the door behind them closed. The chamber seemed like a dead end and there were no other entrances. “I’ve seen windowless buildings but this chamber is just plain ridiculous,” a scout said in an amused tone. Lance touched the walls but he couldn’t find anything that might open any doors or holes. “Well, that sucks,” one tall-bodied scout quipped. Just then, the walls began to close in on them. “I’m not Indiana Jones for Pete’s sake! What’s with the closing walls?!” the scout yelled out. Lance looked around him quickly and saw a hole in the ceiling. “Get on the bus! I’ll tell you what to do next!” Lance yelled. They got onto the roof of the bus and waited. “What now?” someone asked. “We wait for the walls to get closer. Once they are close enough, we scale the wall and reach for that hole in the ceiling,” Lance said. “How are we gonna do that? These are not the walls we were taught to scale in military academy, sir,” the scout continued. “I know but we scale this Hollywood style. We jump from wall to wall and that should get us up there. Our boots are made for increased friction so we don’t fall easily. Unless someone has a better idea,” Lance said. Everyone kept quiet. “Okay, when I say now, leap from wall to wall as fast as you can. Good luck,” Lance said. He quietly said a prayer and waited. 5 seconds later, he yelled the signaled and they leapt from wall to wall as fast as they could. The hole wasn’t very high up so they reached it easily. He nearly slipped but he quickly recovered and leapt into the hole. The others followed suit and entered. The last scout almost got crushed but he made it.

“Next time, sir, remind me to have you beaten up for making us do such a stupid stunt,” the tall scout said again. “It saved your life, private,” Lance said. The adrenaline rush just gave him a whole lot of energy to spend and it seems like his team got worked up too. “C’mon, let’s see what this hole has to offer,” Lance said.

I probably would have been squished by the walls. Looks like Lance is going to get into some more trouble. I can't believe the Beowulf was defeated though.

. There are certain grammar rules that can be broken in fiction. Starting sentences with and can normally be avoid but sometimes it just works better. (And all grammer rules go out the windows when you're writing dialog.)

Carols were sung, eggnog and mulled cider flowed freely (often with a little extra help in the mix), goodies were consumed in brazen defiance of diets, and a good time was generally had by all. And then, of course, were the occasions where a slightly too-good time was had by all. Such as when their daughter's girlfriend Lutecia had pulled Vivio in for an exceedingly enthusiastic kiss under the mistletoe. At first Fate had joined in the cheering and applause. The truth was, she liked Cia, and better yet thought she made a good romantic partner for the reckless and enthusiastic Vivio. That they were still together after dating for nearly a year was a good sign. After a few seconds of that, though, Fate began nervously looking around for Nanoha, because while her wife had come around to accept that the girls were serious about one another, that didn't mean she had to like it. Given Lutecia and Vivio's four-year age difference, it was important for the "responsible adult" to actually be responsible, and Nanoha was...inclined to suspect otherwise. Despite Nanoha's "White Devil" reputation, Fate wasn't afraid that she would pull out Raising Heart and lower neighborhood property values by Divine Bustering Lutecia into the next time zone. No, a mother-daughter fight, yelling, tears, and slamming doors would be quite enough to thoroughly ruin everyone's Christmas. Except that when Fate's eyes fell on Nanoha, her wife was smiling and clapping along. She looked positively smug. ...Nanoha? Fate hesitantly asked heart-to-heart. Yep, it's me. I haven't been taken over by pod people or something. Then why are you grinning? Nyahaha...can't I be happy for Vivio? ... Okay. They took the trouble to come out of the kitchen and smooch under the mistletoe. That means they're doing it for our benefit--okay, mine. And if they're busy thinking of the audience, they're not getting all hot and bothered from kissing. ... Okay, I would be, Nanoha admitted, but Lutecia hates crowds even when she's not the center of attention. Fate laughed mentally, conceding the point. I guess they have to get up pretty early to put one over on Nanoha-mama. You bet! And if Lutecia tries to be a dutiful girlfriend and try her girlfriend's mother's fruitcake, my revenge will be complete! You didn't bake fruitcake. You hate fruitcake. I know. It was Shamal!

Her left arm was in a sling, mangled after yesterday's battle. She grabbed the bottle cap with her teeth and twisted the bottle itself, opening it. Spitting the bottle cap aside, Nanoha took a drink of the precious liquid and sighed. The past two weeks had not been kind. The world she was on had been plunged into civil war shortly after a coup d'etat by so-called 'rebel' forces had occurred. The Bureau had went in to save the government and keep the peace, but the fighting had been intense; many of the rebels were former high-ranked Bureau mages, and they along with the rebels themselves had proven to be more than a minor annoyance. Nanoha herself had been sent in a week ago, supposedly to bring some command and control as well as some heavy artillery to the fight. Although the appearance of the infamous White Devil of the Bureau had initially caused some discord and greatly helped out the fight in the Bureau's favor, the enemy reorganized quickly and soon their attacks - even of them focused on Nanoha - doubled in ferocity. Although they didn't kill her like plan, the most recent attack had both killed the healing mages brought along as well as severely disabled Nanoha. Only a timely intervention from an allied mage had stopped Nanoha from losing her left arm entirely. The enemy had relented since then; apparently, both sides were reorganizing yet again. Nanoha had few allied forces to work with. The Bureau, stymied in paperwork, were trying their best to get reinforcements to the front lines. Citizens in Midchilda opposing the war were extremely vocal, and so the Bureau was having to balance those who supported and those were against the fight. "Major Takamachi," another wounded mage came up to the young woman, limping. "Sergeant Peterson is looking for you, says the enemy is moving." Well... shit. Nanoha cursed and picked herself up off the wall, walking painfully to the command tent. The command tent was exactly as it sounded; a large piece of cloth draped over a makeshift frame. Since the Bureau was not set up here, they did not have the benefit of having military structures here, instead having to make it up as they went along. This "base" was simply the most recent, stuck soundly within this city's commercial district. Bombing runs by enemy fighters and artillery batteries earlier on in the fight had ruined this city, as it was the one the Bureau had decided to land in, citing its easily defendable location. Nanoha thought it was all stupid, but the Colonels above her deemed it so. They needed more air power, she had realized early on; Nanoha herself was one of the three remaining Air Force mages, and she was unable to fly due to her injuries. She had essentially been downgraded to a sniper position during combat, which kept her away from much of the fighting. If this were an ideal warzone, Nanoha would have been healed and thus able to lead from the front, as she was accustomed to, but this wasn't a perfect warzone. Nanoha stepped into the tent and adjusted her sling, staring at the mage who had several monitors opened up. Peterson was a good support mage; he able to handle several tasks at once, including binding and barriers, as well as being the lynchpin to the entire ground operation. Without his support, Nanoha knew that the entire operation would be much, much worse. Once again, she made it a point to see him promoted. Assuming they all lived through this. "What's up, Sergeant?" Nanoha asked, leaning forward and staring at one of the monitors that indicated rebel movement. She winced; they were surrounded. "Well, as you can see, Major, it's not pretty," sighed the young GF mage. "They must have moved in between shifts here. My Wide Area Search that you taught me indicates at least five blocks enemy units along the inner edge of the ring. Many of them are aerial mages... looks like they're pulling out all the stops for this one. Going by the numbers, this consists of all the enemy forces in the area. If we can pull this off, Major, we can actually move on!" He looked up at his commanding officer. "It might be hard, but I've been doing some looking around with my Device and I think I picked up a few good areas to defend from." At this point, Nanoha was open to suggestion. "Let's hear it then, Peterson," The Sergeant nodded and turned to another monitor, amplifying its size fourfold. "The city is pretty much ruined, almost to the point where you can't even recognize it anymore. There are a few key office complexes here, here, and here," said buildings highlighted on the map. "Get our snipers up there, you included, and we can start picking them off. We'll have to keep moving, though, or they'll pincer us in." "I can see that," Nanoha replied, a bit harshly. The Sergeant was unfazed. "It's a decent plan, though, so we'll go with it. Just remember one of the first things I learned in OCS: No plan ever survives contact with the enemy." Peterson nodded. "I'll hole myself up in one of the buildings and provide support from there." "Yosh..." Nanoha patted the mage on the shoulder. "You'll do fine, Sergeant. Now, let's get mobilized." Turning and exiting the command tent, Nanoha lifted her good arm. "Everyone, listen up! We're moving out!" ---===--- "Set co-ordinates: X81726 Y109921 Z281198 G1092357 T091233." Roger. Coordinates confirmed. Deployment height? "5 thousand meters. I don't know what I'm dropping into..." Reports from one Sergeant James Peterson confirm enemy movement.... they have engaged the enemy. "How long before we have the charge?" Approximately 4 minutes. Magenta beams of light lashed down from the skyscraper, pockmarking an advancing tank and shredding it utterly. "That's one!" Master, above! Nanoha looked up and stared down an approaching gunship as it brought its weapons to bear. Missiles raced from their racks, screaming directly for the top of the skyscraper. Nanoha raised a Protection field and braced herself. The missiles impacted the barrier, sending shudders of concussive force through the barrier and causing Nanoha to gasp in pain. A nearby mage lifted his rifle and fired four magical bolts, hitting the gunship's stored missiles on the warheads and detonating them, blowing off the gunship wings and sending it out of control. "Headed right for us..." One mage warned. "MOVE, EVERYONE!" Nanoha shouted. Each mage broke off in a seperate direction, with Nanoha simply diving off the side of the building. The gunship slammed into the rooftop, creating a massive explosion that punctuated the narrow escape. "Report!" "We're fine... lost Anders, though..." A mage updated Nanoha. "Damnit, he was our best sniper too." Nanoha recalled Anders as the one who took down the gunship and sighed. Another loss, and the army here couldn't afford too many. They were supposed to be minimizing losses! Nanoha painfully pointed Raising Heart ahead of her and aimed at a group of rebels that were shooting up at her. Nanoha carefully raised another barrier to prevent their shots from getting through, but in her already weakened state... it wasn't going to end well, she feared. Divine Buster! Raising Heart shouted, sending another beam of energy toward the enemy below. One was vaporized all the spot, the others scattering from the shockwave. At least she had a landing area now. Incoming aerial unit! Another gunship. Nanoha opened fire with an Axel Shooter burst as it approached her, only to see it bounce off a barrier. "Tch, a mage." The gunship opened fire. This time Nanoha's barrier didn't do so well, and a few shells broke the barrier. Raising Heart deployed a Round Shield for Nanoha as the mage on board cast a spell, sending spiral beams of energy around Nanoha and homing into her back, blasting her forward to the gunship's rotating blades. Flash Move! Nanoha twisted as time seemed to slow for her, moving through the helicopter blades and landing just below them on the canopy. Nanoha grabbed Raising Heart midway down the staff and flipped it around, pointing the shooting edge toward the pilot and firing a cartridge. "Divine Buster, SHOOT!" A beam of energy raced from the staff and through the gunship. The pilot incinerated while the mage raised his hands to Nanoha and detonated a burst of energy at her. Nanoha raised her gimped arm as protection and was rewarded by getting blasted forward, the still-rotating blades slicing off the end of her pigtails. Nanoha did a midair roll, facing upright and pointed her staff one-armed at the mage, charging magic. The mage blasted off the glass canopy, sending shards of Plexiglas that cut into Nanoha's barrier jacket and face. Nanoha grimaced but held the charge. "Master Spark, shoot!" Beams of multicolored energy exploded in a wide pattern, closing in on the enemy mage as he ejected from the gunship and charged Nanoha, dodging the beams as they turned to strike him. The mage reached out, easily passed through Nanoha's weak barrier, and grabbed her by the collar. The mage pivoted around Nanoha, using her shoulder as the pivoting point, and kicked her backward into her own attack. Nanoha widened her eyes as the Master Spark struck her Barrier Jacket, knocking herself backward and into a second blast of energy from the enemy's beam attack. The attack sent her flying straight down. Nanoha, stunned, barely registered the assault rifle bursts that tore into her. Nanoha hit the ground in a burst of pink energy as Raising Heart tried to slow her fall. Nanoha somehow managed to come to, rising up out of her impact crater while using her staff to support herself. She glared at the enemy as a tank turned to face her down, its turret pointed directly at her. Nanoha lifted her staff. "No... I'm not going down that easily!" Nanoha screamed. More energy bolts formed around her. "Divine Bullet Storm, Hell Shift!" Energy shots shot outward from Nanoha, striking the tank and any unfortunate to be standing around the White Devil. Nanoha took to the air, wincing as her body protested against the treatment, and grabbed Raising Heart with both hands. She rose higher, past the smoking tank, the various bodies, and the gunship that careened into a crash beside her. "Major, retreat!" Nanoha heard in her mind, a telepathic message sent by Peterson. "They've brought in artillery! We can't- EVERYONE GET OUT OF HERE NOW-" Explosions rocked Nanoha's world as artillery shells fell out of the sky, striking the buildings around her. Several pierced the skyscraper before her, and from the screams she didn't have to ask if her comrades were dead or not. They hadn't moved fast enough, she knew... It was a losing fight from the start, but damned if Nanoha wasn't going to take them all to hell with her. "Give them my regards, Takamachi," Peterson whispered to her. "Gladly..." Nanoha smirked as her Blaster Bits formed around her. "Starliiiiiiight...." BREAKER! And Nanoha's world went white. ---===--- Charge complete. We must hurry. A tear. "...I'm coming for you, everyone. Let's go! Nanoha, wait on me! Bardiche!" Get set. ---===--- "Ha, well, that was easy." A man picked up Nanoha's body and tossed it into a line with those who had died, friend and foe alike. "So much for the so-called White Devil." Around him, several hundred rebels, aerial, and ground mages worked amidst the sound of rolling tanks and flying gunships. After Nanoha's final attack, she was found unmoving in the center of a blast zone, her breathing stopped and her heart only faintly giving off less than one beat a minute. "Watch it," said another. "She's still alive, in theory. If she comes back like a zombie I'm not saving your ass." "Both of you shut up!" A mage in the air said. "Search for survivors and leave her body alone! Instead, he was whirled around and faced a red-eyed demon. He couldn't scream as she formed a ball of lightning energy and shoved it into his face. His head exploded. "What the fuck is that?!" Someone shouted. "Oh, gods, it's..." Fate T. Harlown looked down at the enemy. Her eyes glowed with a yellow light. Around her, an enemy army took notice of her and mobilized. She smirked. Like her element, Fate bolted like a streak of lightning, grabbing Bardiche out of the falling enemy mage as she did. Twirling once, she powered up the Haken Form further and flew directly at a gunship, slicing its rotors off without changing course or slowing down. Another came to intercept her, firing shells wildly at her. Fate simply dodged the compartively slow bullets, breaking the sound barrier as she did and flying directly by the gunship. There was a two second pause as time caught up with the chopper. Two glowing yellow streams of energy opened up along its sides before it simply shredded in two. Fate flew into a skyscraper and quickly came out of the other side, stacks of paper and office equipment flying out of the hole she created behind her. In front of her, an aerial mage lifted his staff to intercept, firing off energy beams. Fate dropped out of sight tempoarily, showing up in front of him to slice his stomach open with her scythe. As he died in front of her, Fate shot up like a rocket, forming several bolts of energy and targeting no less than three gunships. "Plasma Lancer, Extermination Shift!" She roared as she flew forward. The plasma bolts tripled. Fire! Bardiche shouted, and the bolts flew, shredding the three gunships into pieces and causing them to explode spectacularly. Three more mages opened fire, but Fate was too fast for them. She seemingly warped behind one to slice him in two and charged the next one. She lifted her scythe, ignoring the petty magic missiles hurled at her and brought the scythe down, cleaving a sizeable chunk of brain out of the mage. The last turned to run, but was easily cut down as Fate hurled Bardiche at him, the Device spinning Scythe-over-staff until it embedded in his back. Gunshots rang out from the ground, causing Fate to look down with little more than annoyance. Ripping Bardiche out of her latest victim's back, she stared down the enemy below her. Mana began to saturate the area around her as the Midchildan summoning circle appeared under her. She smirked. "Thunder... Rage!" Bolts of lightning fell from the sky, striking tanks and rebels alike. They scattered, spreading so they wouldn't be targetted so easily. Fate simply flicked her wrist. More energy blasts sailed from the sky, striking the stragglers. She lifted Bardiche into the air and formed it into Zamber Form. Fate dived, right on top of a tank. She crushed it with the force of her landing. Lifting Bardiche into the air with both hands, she charged mana again. "Everyone will die, right here and right now! With Bardiche, I will-" And then she saw Nanoha. Fate paused briefly, only to take in Nanoha's still form. It was enough. "Bardiche... Sonic Drive." A flash of yellow light filled the area. Howling. "I'll kill you all!" ... ... ... ... ...silence... ---===--- A fluttering of eyes. A loose grip. A gasp. Nanoha opened her eyes for what felt like the first time in a million years. At first, everything was a haze, but as her eyes focused, she saw something warm, and familiar. "...F-Fate...?" The blonde was holding Nanoha amidst ruins of what was once a city. Her Sonic Form Barrier Jacket was tattered and torn in places, and Bardiche rested on the ground next to them, its core shattered. "Nanoha! You're alive!" "What... what happened, Fate?" The red-eyed woman smiled and pulled Nanoha close. "Nothing... just... what I had to do to save you..." Nanoha smiled. "So you rescued me?" "I... I guess so!" Fate smiled, her face weary. "Are you okay?" Nanoha asked. "Yeah. I'm fine... let's just... wait for everyone else, now." Fate stopped, looking out to the sky as the sun began to rise. Nanoha watched it as well. She had relied on her instinct to find her way out of Beowulf but it was a bit too late. Now she had merely a few seconds to clear Beowulf before the explosion brings the whole building down along with her. The AMF field was still strong so she can’t use any magic so she crawled as fast as she could towards the exit. “I hate you, Hayate!” Nanoha yelled loudly as she almost reached the exit. With one last push, she propelled herself out of Beowulf and took off. The flames burst out and almost reached her but she barely got away from being burnt to crisp. Explosions chained throughout the building followed by one massive explosion that engulfed Beowulf. They thought it was over but when the explosion died down, Beowulf still stood but many parts of its body were up in flames. The laser emitter, however, continued to fire lasers at a faster rate but less weaker. Still, it was lethal. “What does it take to destroy that thing if a football-shaped compression bomb can’t do the job?!” Nanoha yelled out aloud. A missile streaked past her and headed towards Beowulf’s laser emitter. Hundreds of missiles followed later and impacted Beowulf. Looking towards the sky, she saw dozens of fighter jets circling the skies. Most sky mages survived the attacks and that meant they had been doing quite a good job. “Ma’am, Terran reinforcements arrived 5 minutes ago. I’m glad that we don’t have to be bait anymore,” a mage said with a sigh of relief. “How many casualties?” Nanoha asked. “About 12 mages down and 15 more wounded. The wounded ones are stranded in the forest but Vice has arrived to pick them up. Aquila squadron survived but one of the Terran jets was shot down. 13 casualties if the pilot of that jet is counted,” he said. The number 13 wasn’t really a lucky number and Nanoha can’t help but think that more bad luck was about to befall them. Beowulf stopped firing and its shields went down. “Now it’s my turn to return the favor. Starlight Breaker!” she yelled. Raging Heart charged and fired the magic blast. The bolt shot towards the body of Beowulf and disintegrated it. The tower came crashing down, crushing the anarchists below. Those who survived were bombed by a wave of fuel bombs released by incoming B-2 Spirit stealth bombers. The explosions lit up the forest in a massive firestorm from hell and Nanoha heard cheers coming from her COMM. “Yeah, we showed those bastards who they’re dealing with. Thanks to you Nanoha, we dealt a massive blow to one of their weapons,” a bomber pilot said over the COMM. “Nice of you guys to finish the night off with a bang. Cool fireworks display,” Nanoha said. She couldn’t see the planes as they were dark in color and they blended in with the night sky but she definitely heard their engines. “You guys came a bit late. What’s up with that?” a mage asked. She heard a chuckle and some static. “Ma’am, these bombers are a bit heavy and besides, we received late orders from Global Strike Command to assist. Sorry for the tardiness,” a pilot said in a low, husky voice. Nanoha didn’t mind. At least there is a victory after losing so many times to the anarchists. Perhaps the Terrans have their uses after all to provide heavy support. This battle with Beowulf lasted for 2 hours in reality and it drained Nanoha of her energy. “C’mon guys, let’s head back home and get a good night’s rest,” Nanoha said. Arin banged her fist on the table. After she heard the destruction of the Belkan Point Defense Tower, she got so mad that she nearly fainted. The other knights looked at her but said nothing. “How can this be? How can those bastards destroy a weapon like Beowulf when Angel Heart can’t even destroy it?!” she yelled. Sweat beads ran down her face and there was an angry psychotic look on her face. “Why are you getting so worked up for, Arin? Wasn’t it your idea to use Beowulf in the first place? Lysenthia only supported your suggestion but she did not give the idea so who is to be blamed for the loss of Beowulf?” Mason asked. “Nanoha Takamachi…that fool of a mage did this. First she went in and detonated a bomb, and then she launched that attack of hers. She has to be killed for that,” Arin growled. Lysenthia stared at Arin and shook her head. “You marked her house with the Belkan royal family mark and that means you want her dead. So far, your efforts are only futile and Nanoha gets away all the time. There is someone more deadly than Nanoha and I don’t see you marking him for death,” Lysenthia said lamely. “There is no one more annoying than that Nanoha Takamachi. Fate Testarossa is nothing, Hayate Yagami is nothing and even that idiot Admiral Chrono Harlaown is nothing. Terrans are weaklings and they rely on the Mid-Childans for support so they are nothing. I only want Takamachi dead!” Arin bellowed out loud. “You certainly have hot blood in that petite little body of yours. Why Takamachi when so many others are foiling your so-called plans? The one that you should really consider killing is that Terran named Lance Valentine. Even as we speak, he is looking for Vivio and Karyl and you know damn well that the two are important to us,” one knight said. Arin took a deep breath and let it out. “You’re right; maybe we should concentrate our efforts on stopping Lance first. After that, we proceed to conquering the colony,” Arin said. Lance pulled the cocking lever of his rifle and fired a single shot towards an anarchist who had been firing on him since a firefight started. The shot punctured his head and knocked him off the platform he was standing on. “I hope that is the last of them. C’mon, let’s go and keep on searching,” Lance said to his team. The morning sun was rising and the dark sky was brightening quickly. Lance hadn’t slept for two days and he had the urge to stop and get some shut eye but he promised Fate that he will retrieve Vivio and Karyl. He couldn’t break that promise. The ruins reminded him of the castle ruins left over by the British lords of the Middle Ages except these ruins had a modern touch in them. Too bad he didn’t have a camera with him or he would have stopped to take a picture or two. “Uh, Captain Lance, are we in the right place? Besides those few anarchists who look like an expedition team, I see nothing that indicates Vivio and Karyl being here,” a scout said. He peeked over a bush and moved on. “Hayate told me to search this little ruin. Besides, where else can they be besides ruins and hidey holes that are associated with the so-called Belkans? I for once will be surprised if they decide to hide in shady old buildings in the middle of the city or disguising themselves as powerful businessmen and women and hiding in big corporate buildings,” Lance said. “Maybe that is what they are doing,” another scout said. Just then, he stepped on a stone and plasma conduits came to life, illuminating the ruins. Nearby, a door opened and they a bus in the chamber. It was the same bus that the kidnappers used. “The rule of every villain: always hide in places where people may expect to find you and are associated with things that you like. How very predictable,” Lance said while rolling his eyes. They entered the chamber and the door behind them closed. The chamber seemed like a dead end and there were no other entrances. “I’ve seen windowless buildings but this chamber is just plain ridiculous,” a scout said in an amused tone. Lance touched the walls but he couldn’t find anything that might open any doors or holes. “Well, that sucks,” one tall-bodied scout quipped. Just then, the walls began to close in on them. “I’m not Indiana Jones for Pete’s sake! What’s with the closing walls?!” the scout yelled out. Lance looked around him quickly and saw a hole in the ceiling. “Get on the bus! I’ll tell you what to do next!” Lance yelled. They got onto the roof of the bus and waited. “What now?” someone asked. “We wait for the walls to get closer. Once they are close enough, we scale the wall and reach for that hole in the ceiling,” Lance said. “How are we gonna do that? These are not the walls we were taught to scale in military academy, sir,” the scout continued. “I know but we scale this Hollywood style. We jump from wall to wall and that should get us up there. Our boots are made for increased friction so we don’t fall easily. Unless someone has a better idea,” Lance said. Everyone kept quiet. “Okay, when I say now, leap from wall to wall as fast as you can. Good luck,” Lance said. He quietly said a prayer and waited. 5 seconds later, he yelled the signaled and they leapt from wall to wall as fast as they could. The hole wasn’t very high up so they reached it easily. He nearly slipped but he quickly recovered and leapt into the hole. The others followed suit and entered. The last scout almost got crushed but he made it. “Next time, sir, remind me to have you beaten up for making us do such a stupid stunt,” the tall scout said again. “It saved your life, private,” Lance said. The adrenaline rush just gave him a whole lot of energy to spend and it seems like his team got worked up too. “C’mon, let’s see what this hole has to offer,” Lance said. Would you have done the same if walls close in on you ?

Keroko Adeptus Animus Author Join Date: Jan 2007 Age: 36	Actually, the Saint Armor makes RD's story even more believable. There's no need for plot contrivance with the explanation of Lutecia talking to Vivio. That aside, the 'corridor' they are hiding in is actually a hall, if you look at the shot right before the phase back to Lutecia, you'll see it's much broader then the hall Vice is in. And quite easy a room to go huddle in a corner.
