I can't wait for Rosa, that headbutt attack has done it for me now. Her gun seems more finisher-based than Siesta's though, + dual guns akimbo??
Makes me wonder if there is a Rosa x Eva Storyline coming.

I've never heard of Alchemist releasing a game outside of Japan, plus I haven't been able to find any trace of the DLC themes and picture packs on LIVE, so there probably won't be an offical NA release. One can still hope, but with the prices I'd much rather just play a (hopefully) fully patched OMK on PC for a cheaper price.

Makes you wonder if an American release would boost sales though for Umineko stuff. Blaz Blue is pretty popular, and I'd be happy to buy a VN based off of it. (Fill in any plot holes and such.)

That's the opposite: you would require Umineko fame in order to sell Ougon.
Let's be honest here: Ougon is nothing close to classics like SF, MB, BB whatsoever. It was a balanced doujin game, sure, but it is not offering enough features etc that would make it an eligible commercial game.

Suffice to say, depending how 07th expansion tweek Ougon, it can turn out like a MB2 (melty blood was pretty bad before Re Act so heh). But as for now, it would be as shady as the likes of Phantom Breaker.

A western release would require the anime and/or VN mass release in order to pierce through the market.

I'm hoping for someone here to win the lottery or something and fund a localization, it was being discussed in the Higurashi threadboard how supposedly low sale anime arnt actually that expencive to buy the rights to, granted it isnt something someone can do with pocket change and it depends wether the holders sell or not but still I like to have hope in that possibility. If Umineko and Higurashi franchises were taken over by fans theres a chance for Ougon to make it over though without the anime the best we can hope for Ougon is a translation patch

I'm sure that might be possible if enough fans put the money together. It probably wouldn't be feasible to release DVDs (at least not straight away), but a streaming site could work. It would be nice to be able to offer extras like concept art, clean OP/ED, etc. and it would cut down on the piracy.

Anyway, if something like that happens, getting Ougon Musoukyoku released in other regions is just another step.

On the note of Ougon, how many people other than me swear at their screens as theyr getting their ass kicked over and over most likely by the unstoppable force virgilia who seems to be able to block without moving, my dad just got into a fit over it and assumes everyone in the world just bottles up any frustration until you burst blood vessles while I'm trying my best to avoid going back to that place, his suggestion of giving up isnt the kind of habit I want to get into either

Does anyone else know the possibility of a third new stage? The new OP showed a bunch of goats and Rosa towering over them in a wasteland like location, so perhaps we could get some new area that has a wasteland in the meta-world. The path to the beach perhaps? After all, the only CG with an actual background that wasn't a stage was when Eva dismisses Ronove.

Side thought: I wonder how much OMK2's illustration pixiv thing will affect the roster. I hope that means we'll get Zepar/Furfur as well as virtually every other fantasy character since they keep getting used in the illustrations...

I also saw Maria, so that's left me to wonder if Rosa's meta is going to be to switch with MARIA or use her to attack (Pull someone to pieces) or if Rosa's going to turn into the Black Witch.

Regardless, is there any of Meta-George or Rosa in the short clip of them? I notice two screens towards the end which "looks" like Meta-World, but they only appear for a short amount of time.

And i'd be more surprised if Rosa doesn't get her own stage, to be honest. The rest of the characters have one.

Let me rephrase:

Sites drop instructions like "block", "combo", "guard cancel", "63214ABC" as if they expect the reader to already understand all that, only going into how OMK differs from most other fighting games.

Is there any place I can find instructions on how to play, written for somebody who isn't already familiar with fighting games?

Button notation
To do most things in this game, you have to press some combination of direction buttons. The most common notation is to use the numbers from a numeric keypad like this:
7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3
For instance, 4 means to press left, and 3 means to press forward and down. 5 means that you don't press any buttons. In order to avoid confusion about which way your character should be facing, directions in this notation always assume your character is facing to the right. So if your character is facing to the left and you're told to press 6, that means that you'd actually press left, not right.

Besides directions, the game uses five buttons called A, B, C, D, and E. The first three are used for attacks. D is used for switching characters, and E causes your character to taunt the opponent. Never press E.

Some commands require you to press multiple buttons at the same time. In that case, it's written as A+B, with a plus between the combined buttons.

Basic movement
You can walk backward and forward by pressing the appropriate direction. Pressing any downward direction (1, 2, or 3) will cause you to crouch, while an upward direction will cause you to jump.

You can quickly run forward across the stage by tapping forward twice (66), holding it the second time. You'll stop as soon as you release the button. You can jump while running to get more distance.

You can also quickly step backward by tapping backward twice (44).

If you need to jump over something tall (say, an enormous blue laser), you can get a bit more height by tapping down (2) right before starting the jump. This is called a "high jump" -- you can tell you did it right if your character leaves afterimages behind.

The Life Bar
This is the long blue bar at the top the screen, and basically represents how much punishment you can take before your team loses. It's actually three bars stacked on top of each other: blue, yellow, and red. These will be drained in sequence as you take damage until they're all empty, at which point you lose the match.

Although you control two characters, they share the same life bar. The total amount of life you start out with depends on which characters you picked. For example, Lucifer and Kanon have a smaller amount of life than the other characters, so a team with those two would be able to take much less punishment than, say, Battler and Evatrice.

Attack and defense
Normal attacks:
These are your basic punching, kicking, and stabbing with laser blades. You have three buttons for these: weak (A), medium (B), and strong (C). Generally speaking, weak attacks are short-range and fast, while strong attacks are long-range and slow, and medium attacks are right in between. It's not a good idea to throw out strong attacks all the time -- your opponent will just quickly jab you in the face before you can finish.

Everyone has a different standing, crouching, and jumping attack for each button. Some characters also have different attacks when holding 6 or 3, or when in the air and holding 2.

Some attacks may also be different depending on whether you are close to or far away from your opponent. For instance, Lucifer's standing medium attack, 5B, is a nail swipe up close and a spinning slash with her sword further away.

Blocking:
If you are holding 4 or 2 (backing up or crouching while holding back) when your opponent tries to hit you, and you aren't trying to do an attack yourself, you can block their attack. This means you'll take much less damage (called "chip damage") and the opponent will be pushed away from you a bit.

Attacks come in three varieties based roughly on what height they come at your character from: low, middle, and high.
- Low attacks are things like crouching kicks. You must be crouching to block them.
- Mid attacks include things like standing punches. You can block these standing or crouching.
- High attacks include jumping attacks and a small number of standing attacks. You must be standing to block them.
If you block at the wrong height, you'll be hit normally as if you weren't blocking at all, so be careful. Also, you can't block anything while jumping.

Throwing:
You can throw your opponent on the ground or into the air by standing very close to them and pressing B+C. Throws can't be blocked at all, so if someone is blocking all of your attacks, you can try this instead. However, if the opponent isn't blocking, they can just punch you before you get close enough.

There is a sort of rock-paper-scissors relationship: attack beats throw, throw beats block, block beats attack.

Combination attacks ("combos")
Some attacks naturally lead into each other so that they can be performed quickly in sequence without being interrupted. If the first one hits, the opponent won't be able to block any of the ones after it, so you can do a lot of damage at once. This is called a combo.

Different characters have different combos, so you'll need to experiment a bit. However, as a rule of thumb, you can do basic combos by going from a weak move to a stronger move, or by switching between standing and crouching with the same strength.

It is much harder to use a combo on someone if they successfully block your attacks, since you may be pushed back too far away to hit them with the next attack in the sequence. In that case, they can look for an opening and counterattack, so watch out.

Special moves
Special moves are more powerful attacks that are activated by quickly pressing a sequence of directions followed by an attack button. There are a couple of standard ones that you'll see frequently:
- 236: This is a smooth rolling motion from down to forward.
- 623: This is a Z-like motion.
- 41236: This is a half-circle motion from back to down to forward.
- 22: This is a double-tap down.
- 641236: This requires pressing forward, and then quickly rolling from back to down to forward.
Mirrored versions of these motions are also common. All of them are followed by an attack button (usually any attack button is fine).

Some special moves can only be used in certain situations. Ground only, air only, while blocking, etc. Also, a few characters (such as Lucifer) have special moves that have to be done in sequence, like a combo.

Using a different attack button with the same special move may give a different effect. For instance, Kanon's 214 move, "Shadow Slice":
A version - Kanon lunges forward, but stops without attacking. A feint.
B version - Kanon lunges forward and slices the opponent, stopping in front of them.
C version - Kanon lunges forward, slices, and then moves to the other side of the opponent. Might trick them into blocking in the wrong direction.

You can make your combos longer by adding in special moves, although not all normal attacks can be linked to specials.

Other weird stuff:
Some characters have special moves that give them additional ways to move arround. Kanon and Chiester 410 can bounce off of a wall while jumping; Beatrice can hover; Evatrice can quickly lunge forward in midair.

The tag team system ("touching")
By now, you're probably wondering how to get that second character you picked to come out. There are various ways to do it, called "touching", but the simplest one is to just press the D button while standing still. This is called a "normal touch". After you switch characters, there's a short delay before you can do it again, which is shown by a meter wrapped around the character portrait at the bottom of the screen. It will blink with the word "Change" when you can do it again.

Be aware that normal touch takes a little bit of time to activate, so it's dangerous to use if the opponent is in your face trying to punch you.

Abilities:
Besides switching your other character into the fight, doing a normal touch also temporarily activates your characters' innate Abilities. These are useful effects such as regenerating health or being able to automatically guard without pressing buttons; each character has their own unique one. When you do a normal touch, the ability of the character who tagged out (not the new one) is activated for about 10 seconds. You'll see a glowing magic circle around your character's feet to indicate this.

The SP Gauge:
It's important to swap characters every once in a while because, as you fight with one character, the other character's SP Gauge increases. This shows up at the bottom of the screen next to that character's portrait as a group of five bars. When that character is swapped back into the fight, their SP shows up in the wing-shaped meter by the life bar, and you can spend it to do all sorts of useful things.

Super moves
Most special moves can be charged up into more powerful versions by pressing A+B instead of a single attack button. This costs 1 or 2 SP depending on the move.

There are also moves that you can do ONLY by spending SP. All characters have one that is activated with 236 236 C and costs 2 SP, and there are also various character-specific super moves (although not everybody has one).

Advanced tag-teaming
Besides normal touch, there are various other ways to tag your partner in depending on the situation.

Attack touch: Press the D button at the moment one of your attacks hits the opponent and your partner will jump in with a high attack. You switch characters safely and make a longer combo this way, but in exchange, your abilities will not be activated.

Guard touch: Press the D button when you block an attack. You can get away from an opponent's combo this way, but it costs 1 SP.

Damage touch: If you mess up blocking and get hit, you can still get away by pressing D to switch as you're hit by an attack, but now it costs 2 SP.

Assault touch: What's that? Your opponent is shooting lasers and fireballs from the other side of the screen and you can't get close? Then enter 236 D to dash across the screen, hit them, and then switch characters. While dashing, you are completely invincible, but it does cost 2 SP.

The Metaworld
As time passes, a small red bar will fit up right underneath the timer. This gauge controls when you are allowed to enter the Metaworld, which temporarily gives you a massive power boost.

What does being in the Metaworld do for you? First of all, for as long as you're there, both of your characters' abilities are activated. Second, you can use an extra-powerful attack called a Meta Super. The button sequence for this attack is always 641236 C, and you can do it as many times as you want, for free. In other words, you want to be in the Metaworld as much as possible.

Whenever the Meta Gauge is at least half full, you can press A+B+C to declare that you're entering the Metaworld. However, only one character can be in the Metaworld at a time, so your opponent gets a chance to object. If they immediately press A+B+C as well and spend 2 SP, they can cancel your declaration. But then, if they do that, you can immediately re-declare for 2 SP, and they can re-cancel for 3 SP, and you can re-re-declare for 2 SP...

By that time your opponent won't have any SP left, so you can enter the Metaworld unopposed. However, every time you have to re-declare that you're entering, some of the Meta Gauge is lost, and that gauge determines how long you get to stay in the Metaworld. So, it's sometimes best to wait until the opponent doesn't have a lot of SP to challenge you with.

After the gauge runs out, you'll have to wait a while for it to recharge before you can use it again.

Advanced defense
Escaping from throws ("throw teching"):
When your opponent tries to throw you, if you very quickly press the throw button yourself, you can prevent it from succeeding. The window of time when you can do this is very small, so instead of waiting for an opponent's throw and reacting to it, it works better when you can successfully predict that the opponent is about to throw you.

Recovering from being knocked down ("teching"):
If your opponent hits you with a combo, chances are you're going to be knocked down (possibly after bouncing off the ground or a wall). This is dangerous because the opponent can prepare to hit you again while you're busy getting up. However, if you press any attack button before you hit the ground, you can recover and land on your feet.

Weird stuff that can happen to you
Getting stunned:
When you take a lot of hits in a row, you might end up stunned. Your character will act woozy and stop responding to commands for a little while. This is bad news -- it means your opponent can get a bunch of free hits in and you can't do anything about it. Some characters are good at causing this (Ange in particular has an ability that makes it easier), so watch out for it.

Having your defenses overwhelmed ("guard break"):
Another way to stun a character is to make them block a lot of attacks. This raises the Break Limit meter, which is the pink meter right under your life bar. You'll be briefly stunned if the meter fills up all the way, although it will be emptied out afterward. The meter also decreases a bit every time you switch characters.

Deflecting an attack with another attack ("clashing"):
Sometimes when two characters attack simultaneously and the moves are equally powerful, they'll just bounce off of each other and nobody will take damage.

Getting interrupted by a counterattack ("counter hit"):
If you're in the middle of an attack and your opponent reacts quickly with a faster attack, he can interrupt you. In that case, you'll be "counter hit", and the attack will do more damage to you than it would normally.

Canceling
Canceling is an advanced technique you can use to stop in the middle of one move and immediately do a different one. This is useful for making combos longer, since you can do a strong attack and then interrupt it after it hits so you don't have to wait to recover from it. You can also try to cancel a move that got blocked in order to escape.

Attack touch: This is the easiest cancel, and I already talked about it. Just hit D after landing a hit and continue attacking with your other character. This drains your touch meter.

Dash cancel: Strong attacks with C are pretty slow, but if you haven't used your touch meter and you don't want to switch characters, you can instead tap 66 to run forward and continue your combo. This drains your touch meter as well, so you can't do it and an attack touch in the same combo. Some C moves can't be dash canceled.

Meta cancel: If you have 1 SP and a high enough Meta Gauge, you can enter the metaworld to cancel an attack. Beware: if your opponent has enough SP, your cancel might get canceled.

Taunting
Press E to have your character make fun of the opponent. This restores a small amount of life, but in exchange, you'll be unable to do anything for a fairly long time. If your opponent catches you in the middle of doing this, you will probably take much more damage than you recovered, so use it at your own risk.

Actually, taunting will restore a bit of your hp, therefore using it in a situation where you clearly can add it in is nice, an example would be if you use Chiester's Meta-Super while partnered with Battler, or if you're not fighting a character with good range and you knock someone to the other side of the screen, be it through their SP grab or something like Battler's meta-super.


Although it's a purely situational move, it's not something that should be added into a strategy against an actual competent player if you ever play online or anything, but once you start understanding the computer's AI you can get away with restoring HP.

Also on the mutual grabbing thing, I wouldn't advise training your reflexes to grab as soon as you've been grabbed, usually ''grab-escape'' is usually something I do to force them into a stale-mate when I'm in a situation where I'll be grabbed, not sure if people are actually skilled enough to dodge grabs otherwise, but the only time I ever get it is when I realize they're going to grab me, and I run to grab them as well.

Yeah, the window for escaping is pretty small, like a couple of frames, so I think most people do it by predicting the opponent's throw instead of reacting to it.
