I don't think they would have much luck finding a "fresh mountain stream" considering they were in forest lowlands :P

Sasuke just forgot to put on his Sharingan contact lenses.

I was all ready to defend Sasuke, but I agree.
There's only two possible outcomes to this:
A: Sasuke really is a dumbass: he somehow didn't see the water right next to them; or,
B: That water is really poisened ninja water - deadly to drink (only Sasuke can spot it).

Hey. I'm not saying it's either one. Just either is a possibility, that's all.
