The problem is the manga has little to none characterization for anyone who isn't Usagi. Adapting that into a 26-episodes series would suck big time. To make a good show, the anime would need to add anime-only stuff to deepen the character development. They would need more episodes.

Still, I see difficult that want to adapt all the manga. Especially if Toei want to make a second season.

I see more likely that this new anime is a completely new version of the first arc. So far, it has not been said that the new anime will be closer to the manga.

Another thing, maybe it's my own ignorance, but I do not know a series of Toei lasting less than 45 chapters.

Well, this everything depends on the overall series direction that Toei chooses for new anime.

Source for this claim?

Chapters? Oh, I see you mean episodes. Ayakashi, Kanon, Mononoke and I could continue.

This is true, everything depends on the direction Toei choose

I did not express clearly. I did not mean that there are plans for a second season. I want a said if the first season becomes a success (which I assume is what Toei expected), Toei probably want to do a second season. So I do not think that all material is used for one season.

You're right, I meant episodes. Thank you very much for the answer, I did not know these animes.

First of all, why are you sure that they don't want to adapt whole manga at once?

Let me guess. English isn't your native language, right? Or just you using a dialect that I don't know?

I'm not sure of anything. I just think it would be strange to use the whole manga in one season (which prevents the possibility of a second season). This is just my opinion.

If they actually only air one season, or below 30 episodes, I don't understand why they used so much effort and time on all the merc releases, concerts, musicals, and all the time on everything else for two years in advance, to promote the new anime.

That, and Toei rarely does anime that won't run for at least one whole year, unless it's late night, experimental stuff like Kyousougiga.
A merchandise-driven show like Sailormoon? Expect at least 50 episodes, for sure.

Hoping and praying it will air on TV too, and not just Nico Nico. :<

Actually, despite the length of the original anime series, a lot of the more complex and interesting plot and character details in the manga were left out in favor of mundane filler. I'm very glad, thus that this new anime will be more faithful to the dark, mature aspects of the manga, and I know that fleshing out some of the story aspects can bring a fully realized show without making it like the original anime. Since they aren't waiting for the manga to be finished like during it's original run, and the success is more or less guaranteed, I'm sure they could produce one hundred or so episodes in one continuous season.

Surely I'm being repetitive, but there is no announcement that the new anime will have a darker plot or be closer to the manga.

The only thing that has been announced (so far) is that the new anime will be an adaptation of the manga, but the first anime was also an adaptation of the manga and were very different.

for it to be considered an adaptation of the manga, it has to have the 5 senshi from the first arc, tuzedo kamen and the last battle of the first arc. they can do what they want with everything else and it will still be an adaptation, like the first anime or the live action series. taht being said, they are mixing some gatchaman crowds staff and staff used to long adaptations, so going by the staff 50 episodes sound likely, though I would only bet for two coeurs.

They're doing a countdown? After stringing people along for all this time? There's something cruel about that.
Oh well, just eight days. This better be good.

In 8 days is around the time Anime Japan starts where there should a TON of upcoming anime announcements and PVs. So there should be something once that time comes.

Assuming that pic Isn't fake (and that's a big *IF*, there are alot of trolls online) then that's a pretty darn good quality and looks so much like the manga! Definitely raised my expectations a bit.
