Sometimes planes crash without being found for years. This just happens, and remains the most likely reason here. Unless we spend money tracking every plane globally by satellite, there will always be planes going missing. Sometimes people are just surprised that we aren't omnipotent yet.

As I said, it is not unheard of that a crash gets missed for years. The recovery of the wreck is not an inevitability. People like to think technology is omnipotent, but the fact is there are financial limits. Even the idea that there are communication dead zones over the ocean is a surprise to people. Some really believe that every plane has a satellite phone...

The investigators certainly seem to think the plane having gone somewhere into the Indian ocean...and it's kinda hard to imagine what regular accident could have resulted in that given it's intended flight path.

While I admit that the internet stores plenty of garbage, there is none that stink more than that of those that are politically motivated, be it hubris from the Asian governments or the warmongers running the Western ones. Castro has a point, though its impact on the world could be....somewhat interesting.

Just so it's clear what is at stake here, we are talking about the Domain Name Service, which has been managed by private entities under US government contract since the 1990s.
US control of the DNS has been a major point of contention in the rest of the world for well over a decade. Just to take one example, Muslim countries were upset when ICANN decided to establish ".xxx" as a top-level domain for porn. Similar concerns arose when ICANN created an entire new system of top-level domains, so that Disney could register .disney. The usual concerns have to do with fragmentation of the "name-space," but I doubt that will happen. Governments already have many powerful tools to control and censor their citizens use of the Internet. Less control over the DNS by the US doesn't really change that. While I can see how the Snowden revelations might have further undermined American credibility when it comes to the Internet, I don't find it surprising that, relevant or not, they helped propel this decision. If I were a foreign citizen, I wouldn't have a GMail account either. I bet the release of the Snowden documents has given new impetus at Google to start getting those barges they patented out beyond the 200-mile limit.

...course then there's the question of if it was the pilots acting alone, what was the motivation? This is extremely elaborate for a pilot suicide, and I'm not sure any research has revealed these guys to have any extremist backrounds...yet.

Also, as much as my relatives insist that in America there would be financial security for life -- as long as one would have to juggle three jobs, pay the 1040 and the upkeep for everything else in a suburban home and to show relatives back in the third-world about the wonders of being an American green-card holder until cremated -- I felt more secure and happier in a country where I can be my own boss and get to interact with more people, as long as I have to be smart enough not to get into trouble with either side of the law. And politicians and mobile phone robbers.
