Senpai - It was mentioned in third person narration that the world really is stilted. The robbers in the Charlotte x Laura filler were noted to be brave for doing crap in a world as biased as theirs. Ichika was nowhere in sight and this is unbiased. Also we do see this with the whole 'females can rent dresses but males have to buy them'.

Regardless I meant more cyberpunk and less mecha fantasy.

I think Fafner would also be good inspiration for an enemy figure. An alien race that interacts by assimilation but split between factions in its own hivemind. Those that chose to be here and those that chose not to be here

It's easy to catch her attention, but it's very hard to catch her attention long enough to be relevant.

To put it short, if you're not interesting in her mindset, at best she'll give you a glance then ignore you afterwards.

You know, the appearance of IS itself is promoting green anarchism. Even nuclear science has use more than IS then, and it is less dangerous. Why not a big portion of society rejects it (which lead them to deny a lot more) as fierce as the others who embrace it?

On a side note, talking about politic. Why every anime fic I've been reading that try to tackle the matter always take a stereotype approach? For example, the idea of Russian resurrect (or at least accept) the Soviet Union and the Eastern Block is as ridiculous and impossible (if not more) than all sci-fi?

Maybe not but Tabane is the only one who makes IS's and can decide whoever she wants to give one to.

How difficult would it be to write a compelling male OC who can pilot IS when he doesn't have a clear enemy?

There is no organization against him. He doesn't have a grudge against Tabane or anyone. It's just that he lives in a way that he doesn't want to be looked down on?

I don't want to be the loser. I don't want to be the person that has to pick up after everyone breaks everything. I don't want to be the person who has to watch as others lose everything like I have. I don't want to be defined. I don't want anyone to decide my worth for me.

It may sound grand but just something of human nature with pride and confidence but not quite arrogance?

Probably already taken note of but trying to juggle less with how being an IS pilot affects life or romance. Less about teens and their hormones trying to throw themselves at each other. More about trying to piece together who you are and sort out muddled emotions as you grow up with all these complications.

It's hard to write that type of male OC and actually try to make sense inside the story. I actually crashed with this issue while writing, and currently am lefting it On Hold while trying to find a way to make it fit.

A common way to make it fit well could be: introduce him as part of Ichika's inner (or outer) circle of friends from middleschool. Let's say that he somehow got thrown onto the madness after Ichika's reveal.

Also a little crazy idea... why if the reason why Cecilia was chosen as the Blue Tears pilot had something to do with some sort of psychic power?

The type of male OC I had in mind is actually quite the opposite. Ichika doesn't like him at all. Because of the way the OC is confident and proud of himself while Ichika tends to just bend to the whims of those around him. Both are good guys and both are kind but in fundamentally different ways.

OC: I turned her down because it would be cruel to string her along.

Ichika: You didn't have to be so harsh about it.

OC: She wouldn't take a hint otherwise.

Ichika: It doesn't change the fact you hurt her.

OC: And what would you do? Accept the invitation? Escort her around town and let her lavish you with love when in the end you never even entertained the notion of entering any sort of commitment, however temporary, with her?

Ichika: Do you listen to yourself? Who cares the hypothetical what ifs of a given situation when somebody's crying right in front of you?

OC: The concept of closure seems to escape you. Then we're at an impasse.

Ichika: Then let's decide this with a duel. If I win you apologize.

OC: And if I win? Well, there's really nothing you could offer me that would have me accept this challenge.

Ichika:... I'll tell you my sister's 3-sizes.

OC:...Name the time and place.

Ichika: Huh? we haven't even discussed the terms of your victory yet.

OC: Don't want it. I just want to see whose reason is stronger. Yours or mine.

I know it's weird but I made my OC a child. So far the story is only at his first day and i'm still deciding how to get the plot rolling.

I really can't write my ideas out since my OC would swear off everything just so that he could fly in his IS - like he's become addicted to flying. The sensation of flight outside of an airplane - to climb into the clouds or skim the ocean's surface while flying at 500 mph... not many people would want to give that up. But of course...

"Stop flying around like that! You're not a bird! You're here to learn how to pilot an IS to fight!"

"Why? IS are forbidden to be used as tools of war - why learn how to fight with them!"

"You idiot! They are deterrents!"

"...so they ARE tools of war."

"Don't mince words with us, boy! Just do what you're told!"

"You're the ones who 'minced' the words for the Alaska Treaty' and now you're justifying exactly what you've forbidden the rest of the world from using. You're using the IS exactly how you've forbidden them from being used - the only ones mincing words is YOU."

"...enough of this. We are the adults here and he is the child. Look, if you DON'T do what we say, then your family will pay the consequences of your disobedience. You WILL learn how to fight with the IS and you WILL be the fore-runner of our project to make men able to pilot the IS en masse. This is the LAST time we'll talk to you - next time, you won't be able to fathom the pain you'll bring upon yourself and your loved ones because of your selfishness."

1. Not very hard. It's harder to write a female OC, which is why I would condemn male ocs, as they mostly go about the SAME plots OVER AND OVER again.

When Ichika (male) went to the committee room, he found that it was locked, with a big sign hung on the door, ‘suspended’.

“What the hell?!” was the first reaction that came out of his lips, apt enough considering the randomness…?

“Rita-senpai and Kanzashi got pissed” a female voice said “And Rayle-senpai can’t help but agree...”

He swiftly turned his back, and found his female counterpart stood ten feet apart from him. Her face was somber, and visibly tired. “Tried to convince them, failed so hard it’s not funny. So how was it?”

“Gave my formal complaint to Ackerman-sensei, she guaranteed nothing.” He shrugged, “At least she’s on my side.”

“Knowing Chifuyu-nee, she’ll stay neutral.” Icchan nodded, “Say, what you are going to do? Continuing the activity by ourselves? And before you ask, no, I don’t have spare key with me. Rita-senpai seized it.”

He’s completely at loss of word, “That’s… surprisingly childish of her…”

He had the feeling that there’s more to this than simple rebellion though… Rita Vratasky doesn’t look like someone who gave up easily.

“Nah, most of our documents and data are inside.” He sighed, began to walk past her toward the exit door. “And honestly, I don’t think two of us would be enough. I’m so NEW at this, and considering President’s action, my authority already undermined anyway.”

She skittishly followed, the tension was almost unbearable, and even between them there’s this awkwardness that never been exist before.

And both of them hated it.

They tried to drown themselves in training, but all they did was faze out and crashed their I.S., tumbled around like a total rookie, so they decide to call the day early.

In the end, it was Icchan who freaked out, pulled her hair like she went bonkers. “WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?! IT WENT SO WELL AND THAT MINX JUST RUIN IT ALL!!”

He can only agree with her statement, that said looking at her so upset made him felt all the worse.

And before they knew, they walked right toward the artificial beach, which remains empty thorough the years. No one knew why, some said because the material of the sand use (I.S. Academy IS an artificial island after all), some said the steep cliff, and other said because something is off with it, like it’s haunted.

Not like the Ichika duo cared however, being too preoccupied with their internal turmoil.
No longer dressed in uniform, they dropped themselves freely on the scorching surface of the sand, and then shouted as loud as they could. Loud enough that birds ran away in terror.

And then, there’s only silence followed, and the calming sound of the waves hitting the shore began to wash away their anger and sorrow.

“We look stupid aren’t we?” She muttered.

“We also sound stupid.” He vehemently agreed, “That said, I tend to forgot this is high school first and military research center second…”

She rolled aside so she could directly face him, “… do you ever think what would like being a perfectly normal high school student…?”

“…comfortable, or that’s what I thought.” He said, “The current me would thought… too complacent, too boring.”

“Heh.” She gave him a cat smile, sent a chill sensation to his spine, “You really like staying here don’t you?”

Alas, he couldn’t say no. In here, he can talk and work with his friends without misunderstanding happen, or random violence, and the repercussion of that violence, which frankly he sometimes felt totally unjustified.

But still…

She straightened her back, looked at the horizon without real objective.

He could tell…

“I wish I can stay here.” He said as he sat beside her.

But this is not my world, this is yours. He should’ve said that, but he felt something is off about these statements, no, those are right words, yet felt so wrong.

It’s something Chifuyu-nee probably would say.

Not him.

Icchan herself thought the same thing, he wouldn’t say it outright, but he knew he had to return. He had responsibilities, and he had people precious to him, probably mourn for his nonexistence, thought he’s dead or forever missing.

And so, as she lean on his shoulder, she swore that no matter what, she’ll make him leave without regret.

Interrupting their intimate moments was the loud THUD on the other side of the tiny beach.

His eyes squinted in disbelief, “Don’t tell me… it’s…”

It was an I.S., obviously larger than any normal machine he encountered in this world. Its creamy white armor plate looks familiar and gave him a sense of déjà vu. He crept closer and touched it.

No reaction.

There are few changes that he could spot, but the most notable of them is it’s massive backpack.

A single paper plane flew around them danced in the wind, before Icchan caught and examined it.

“Eh, a letter from Chifuyu-nee.” She yelled.

“What does it says?”

Icchan dropped a sweat in response, “’We tried as much as we can to restore it using parts of Fujin, if you can’t control it you suck’ she said… what the heck?”

“Sounds like her alright” he sheepishly laugh, defeated “I suppose it’s time to say goodbye to Raijin eh?” he tapped the golden fist, and then, golden frame formed around his body from thin air.

“There’s another message… Es-Tee? Shinonono Tabane?”

“What does it say?”

“’I’m awesome and you should call me awesome, anyway, it’s equipped with trans-dimensional drive so you can g home, the damn thing are the size of a refrigerator and can’t get smaller than that, unless bunny witch Tabane try to do something that is. Nya~!’… It said.”

Okay that one is weird.

“Bunny witch?” Ikkun furrowed his eyebrows, “Not even sure if Tabane-san.”

“Too obvious,” she nodded, “The person’s Chifuyu-nee working with is not Tabane-san.”
That weirdo who waltzed in to Icchan’s class might be…
