This season I'm starting to overlap these series characters and plots. Again, not a fan of the klutzy main girl. Surely it did a better job than Absolute Duo, but that doesn't say much
At least I'm curious to know what kind of shape the MC will use instead of conventional weapons. Then probably I won't stay around much, unless the imouto wouldn't get the edge somehow, very unlikely. I tried to watch World Break just after this, but I couldn't. I gave up after that the MC was still writing in the air over 10 rows I'll give it a try this evening just to complete the list.

Out of three "Harem in the magical school" shows in this season, this one is the show I enjoyed the least. Doesn't really mean that it's the worst of them, though, considering that they are almost the same shows. Not going to watch it further, obviously.

Yes, If you like something like this, you should also try out Shinmai Maou no Testament and ISUCA. (The later one will air first ep. on 23th.) They are action-fantasy (+harem) shows like Fafnir, Seiken and Absolute Duo but they are not magical school theme.

If the dragon get's to you, you are gone as a human. I think there are some other shows with similar premises, but Blade Dance wasn't one of them How does this relate to Blade Dance premise to begin with? It's closer in spirit to Infinite Stratos, setting wise, if you are referring to "only boy in an all female school". Also, speculation: Bunny Sensei was the one who murdered the first human turned into a Dragon. The sheer trauma of putting down her friend made her absolutely insane, and turned her into the literal Bunny Ears maniac we know from the show. |

I don't get why Blade Dance has been brought up in each thread for these new generic harem fantasy shows. It was in the same position as these shows when it aired: bland and copy-pasted as hell with a premise we've all already seen a million times. The author doesn't even have a relation to any of the rest of these, nor the studio that adapted it... There's plenty of other shows to compare these to, so why that one in particular? It wasn't even the most recent show with this premise, either.

1. Fafnir (For plot, girls turning into dragons is scary. Iris is eyecandy, maybe interesting imouto/Lisa) 2. Seiken (Shizuno is eyecandy) 3. Testament (Basara is a badass and Mio is sexy. Bonus Succubus ) 4. Absolute Duo (no particular girl stands out for me and no sense of urgency=world doom) |

Let's see. Awesome magical powers wielded only by girls who go to a special academy to train for it except for one random Male who happens to be solider like and has combat training who can "mysteriously" use the same so called female only power too. He comes across the female lead bathing naked in a random body of water who freaks out and tries to attack him only to fail at it. Then he goes to the academy of girls and makes a horrible first impression to the girls as a sexual deviant.
Any of this sound familiar to the first episode of blade dance? It's almost a perfect transcript of the first half of the first episode with only a few key concepts switched for something else. |

I actually consider these shows to be superior to it. Let's just compare to Fafnir, shall we ? An useful protagonist ? Fafnir's MC is a soldier, meant that he is at least through combat and had discipline. Definitely better than Ichika An actual reason to gather the girls with special powers and gave them training ? Please note that "D" are simply not just girls with special powers that the governments want to use. The show mentioned how just recently are the Ds treated as humans and have human rights. Their mere existence is a threat to the worlds. This island is not simply a school, it's also a prison and a quarantine zone to seperate Ds from normal world. Their only purpose is to fight Dragon and are actually seriously trained for it. Different from IS where the girls are only gather for military purpose yet letting them use personal IS for catfight, normal tournaments, racing... !? Main girl is not Houki-tier tsundere. |

Actually this season we also have Dog Days 3, which is also kind of action-fantasy (loads of pretty girls falling for the guy, but probably not harem...), so yeah, definitely a fulfilling season for guys who like this kind of stuff. I was shocked to hear you say this, but saw your latest thread saying you were comparing in terms of production quality. In terms of story though IS 1 was fine, but IS2's plot was almost non-existent - I think it's really hard to fall lower than IS2. |
