(L) Shokugeki no Soma [Manga]

My hypothesis:

Erina becomes the person that Souma wants to cook for. Not because he loves, or holds any romantic feelings toward at all, but only because he wants to make her admit defeat. I think the same is true right now for Mad Dog and Hayama. It isn't implied that they have romantic feelings for either Alice or Jun.

I don't think she (Erina) would ever be a late blooming heroine, just like a not-so-friendly motivational target for the protagonist.

I kind of agree but we need a love interest in some way which I hope this doesn't have an open ending because I hate series that do that it's like WHY?!?!?!?!

At this point, I ship because mehhh, cant see Souma actually caring for that, its like in Beelzebub, Oga was between Aoi and Hilda, but he didnt give a fuck about that, Souma here, just want to improve, love is like mehh for him

Fans from the West. The recent outrage of vocal western fans of a certain "ship" from Naruto due to the ending comes to mind.

Open endings will mostly just end in the "meh~~" kind of disappointment. Although on the other hand the outrage of the World God Only Knows. which DID have a "pick" in the end, was not that big and died down quite fast, but there were a few more pairings in that series, which made the people of the sinking "ships" unable to unite their "disappointment".

I have no idea how great the shipper fanbase for Shokugeki no Souma is though.

I want to see a girl ask him to be her boyfriend just since I know he can't be 'THAT' dense and if he is I will just cry. I think it would be a nice plot could add some drama. Or have Megumi and Meat Girl ask him out without going deeper and it happens to be on the same day then BAM we get a little plot development while he takes a wee break from cooking so he can think of a specialty and try to be a jack of all while master in one.

Soma's dishes since the very beginning of the series has always been focused on originality and uniqueness, and that's how he's always won, doing the unexpected. And all of a sudden he lost to what he's best at? I call bullshit on that.

There is a difference between a dish that "only he can think of" and a dish that "only he can make." It's similar to the time that he dueled against that former first seat. Same dish, but the quality is different.

It makes perfect sense that if they are asked to swap their dishes, Hayama can bring out 100% of Souma's dish, but neither Souma or Kurokiba are able to bring out 100% of Hayama's dish.

Dont try to compare Oga to a half-ass like Souma. Oga is a man born to fight; born to become the strongest. Souma has talent but he a man who gets on the top by climbing a mountain. While Oga in the other hand would blow the mountain and step on its remains..

The way they copped out of the tournament, do you really think they'd have the balls to make an official pairing and face the fall out from the raging shippers. :P Every girl is going to get a turn and the story'll keep teasing you about every one of them but the MC is gonna stay oblivious and uninterested to the end, like a lot other shounen.

You really aren't. Actually I feel apathy towards her, which IMO is even worse than "hate". This whole supposed "late-bloomer" role is just annoying no matter if she becomes Souma's GF, or just becomes his "regular customer". I am less disliking her, but much more the current way she is being written. Some time ago I posted how her only possible way to become relevant at all without bad writing, is her going through the "ice-queen-melting"-process, however the more she stays in the background, the worse the chance of her character-writing to improve becomes...

Me too. She's so annoying. Her character and personality belong to that of a hateful antagonist, not a heroine, let alone the main one. It will look completely awful and forced if Erina develop any form of affection toward Souma later.

But I hope Souma doesn't accept her.The only one that deserves Souma is Megumi.Her character design's pretty plain compared to Erina,but she's probably the nicest girl out there.

Whether she gets paired with Soma or not, she has to face down to the fact that she almost caused Soma to miss enrollment at Tootsuki unfairly due to her stubbornness. That should be done/handled seriously because I almost fear that either they jokingly pass it off or completely skip it.
