Erm.... This just sounds like a terrible example of 'necrobranding' - cashing in on a name with brand recognition from the past in order to sell your new inferior product.

And, well. FLCL was a complete thing in and of itself. There doesn't need to be any more of it.

Hopefully it'll surprise me and not just be a third-rate cash-in imitation. Hopefully.

I would assume that Gainax was so hard up for cash that when I.G. offered to buy out their share of the rights, it was hard to say no. I'd like to think that what's left at Gainax would have resisted something like this, but who knows - that might be naive.

Gatchaman CROWDS & Casshern Sins kinda work. But that's because the creators has solid vision about what they wanted to do with the franchise.

CROWDS and Sins worked because they are so different from the originals that you can consider them as "series inspired by the originals" as opposed to a "redux". This allowed people to give them some leeway. Dragon Ball Super and Sailor Moon Crystal Meth tried to stick to the original and only produced a disservice to those who have waited so long for the show. (S2 of Crystal seems to improve on the problems of S1, but all hopes are lost for Super, gotta admit it.)

EDIT: Fam reminds me of Railgun to Last Exile's Index, in hindsight.

Thanks for the clarification. I unfortunately haven't watched either so I can't comment either way.

As far as this announcement goes, I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

As I said, original had better main characters and, maybe, music, but the plot was very linear and predictable. I like Fam's plot much better even if it was a bit of Geass rip-off. So for me personally Original = Fam in general.

-The Pillows
-Same VA
-Same character design
-Same feelings on battle scenes (Like the one at episode 6, wow I still feel the adrenaline rushing there).
