Ps2 swapmagic

I've had this ddr extreme jap version game for ALONG time now and since i dont wanna sell it i have finaly decided to buy the boot discs for my ps2. Considering i have a slim ps2 (70012) what would be the best disc i can get? the swap magic site says you can play ps1,sega,snes,and ps2backups/imports.All i want is to be able to do that with my ps2 lid closed. Anyone have any experiance with this?

I have the swapmagic discs... Two points:

1. Make sure you get either the replacement flip-top lid, or the set of metal keys that you install to fool the sensors. If you do that then you can play with the lid down, no problem.

2. Make SURE that you get a 2 disc set of the swap-discs... One of them a CD, an one a DVD. If you don't then you are getting a bootleg version and you end up having to swap twice (once to reset the PS2 to DVD mode, and then again to play your import game).

In my opinion the slim-cases work really well with the swap discs, and since you aren't forcing the drawer open like the old kind, it shouldn't be as much of a wear on the system.

Swap magic can't play PSX games btw, atleast the 3.3 version couldn't. If you have a pal version you will get lags in the vids, only the sound lags though. If your TV supports NTCS you can play BW without lag. If you also get that cable your good. If your PS2 is NTCS your good. As far as I know the only way to play with your pstwo closed is with a flip cover. Should be about $20,-

Don't see what this has to do with a question about a PS2, but anyway:
X360 is region locked and the PS3 has region free on games except backwards compatible PS2 titles.

Afaik the PS3 does not use a region system indeed, though many Xbox 360 games are also region free (but far from all).

Do note though, that only PS3 games are region free: the backwards compatibility is still region locked. So a US PS3 will only play US PS1 and PS2 games.

PS. I own neither a PS3 nor a Xbox 360, this is just info I've picked up from various sites.

aww man i really wanted to play imported ps1 games aswell ( have a ton of old dbz games i miss). One more thing is there really that much of a difference in the new code breaker version than the just swap magic 3.6? It doesnt seem worth it to pay the extra 15$

That story doesn't make sense to me at all.

It doesn't play PSX games, but if you have a PAL version the sound lags, but on a NTSC it's good with "that" cable ( I think you mean an RGB cable)

so.. what is it that you are trying to get across here..

I mean.. if you play an NTSC import on a PAL console on a TV that supports the NTSC standard.. you get color..( I got that in any case, so I bet it's not limited to my TV only ) not BW..
On a set that only supports PAL you can only play NTSC in color with a true RGB cable and a Scartconnector on the TV that supports RGB.

@RiN!:

- Swap magic 3.6 site indeed says it can play PS1 games and there was a video on the site, but Youtube removed it. I would think that if the official site says you can, it is possible.

- Like Quarkboy mentioned: get the extra Magickeys for your slimline to play with the lid closed > http://www.magickeys.net/MagicKeys%202.html and only an original 2 disc set of Swap magic.
I read it's very handy to install those. and play with the lid closed.

- Getting a RGB cable (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shoppingcent.../dp/B000QB390Q) like I think 2H-Dragon meant is always beneficial for increased picturequality. I have them for all my consoles and it's got the normal composite ( yellow connector) beaten by miles. With this you can also play importgames in other TVstandards than your own in full color instead of black and white . just check if your TV has an RGB capable Scartconnector. and even if you aren't going to play other TVregion games, it still is a good idea to get one of those cables.. just for that increased picture quality..

I'm not a fan of Swap magic and never used it, I'd rather chip a PS2 and be done with all the hassle of swapping constantly and having limitations, with possible damage to your PS2 with all the swapping and such, but if you don't have the cash for that, this is the only alternative

Kinda typed too fast and I didn't check on spelling. My point is if the pstwo is pal and your playing NTSC PS2 games. You will get sound lags in the vid's. If you have a NTSC TV you can play BW with normal sound. If you get the RGB cable you can play with normal sound and color.

Yeah, but only on games, bluray movies are still region locked. Which kinda sucks, being as Japan is now Region 1 along with America for Bluray. So once again, Europe gets the shaft.

That first line might have been misleading. I was referring to PS3 games only.

Europe gets shafted in regards to the PS3 anyway, considering the lack of PS2 hardware inside (and thus supposedly crappy backwards compatibility).

Anyways... for DVDs Europe and Japan do share the same region, so it's not that bad.

Yeah I was just clarifying further.

And I know we share the same region for DVDs, but that's not much use when Bluray starts becoming more widespread. Ok, so that's not going to happen yet a while, but it will eventually. I've never seen the point of region locking anyway though, it's entirely pointless and basically just serves as a way for the men in suits to keep some measure of 'control'.

Well anyway, I'm not getting into a debate about this here, so I'll quit now.

I have a slim PS2 as well. I went ahead and bought the magic keys and it's currently working like a charm. However, the installation was a bit hard as the instructions weren't very detailed. I'm still using my Swap Magic 3.3 which is working flawlessly.
