How does A's show "the very nature of magic allows it to restore itself, under all circumstances"? In A's, their cores were just depowered greatly, so as soon as the pressure built back up they were fine. In StrikerS, she worked her core to over 100% output, thus damaging it.

A's is like a steamship whose boilers that has been depressurized. Once pressure builds up in the boiler again, the ship can steam perfectly well.

StrikerS is a steamship whose plant suffered severe overpressure damage, and can no longer maintain a full head of steam - its speed has been permanently reduced. Any faint chances of repair are thrown away by the ship's Captain, who insists on running at least a Standard bell on the engines.

Well, if you're talking about combat then getting out the inappropriate persona can happen... but under very specific circumstances though (like for example an extreme mindfuck), since the call on who gets to represent Julie can only be made by Julie herself. So if she gets confused...

And romance is one of those things that can get Julie VERY confused

@Keroko & ark: From memory(which was 3 months ago, and I don't have the track with me right now), I'd tend towards ark's side. In my interpretation the 8%(or whatever number) loss was regarding raw power output of her linker core. However she manipulates the power to make up for with efficiency, what's lost is lost.

Hmm viewing from that analogy it does make sense.

The main problem is that Nanoha already screwed up her core once with the Starlight Breaker overload, and she recovered from it eventually.

Yes, but Linker Core output is flexible, and hence it should be retainable. It won't be easy, for someone like Nanoha, 8% is a lot of power lost, but it should be possible.

Quite right. Though should be noted that only 5 of these personas are brought out in serious combat.

Ocean - Julie herself, for when she's confident enough, like when friends are on her side. The most level headed.
Rin - This is the persona that appears the most in low-threat fights and brawls, like in street muggings or petty thieves.
Tara - For when the situation escalates to beyond Rin's scope, for example serious duels and matches. Cares more about physical exercise than actual victory though.
Saul - The best choice when you're REALLY serious to deal some serious hurt in the form of broken bones, smashed noses, disjointed limbs and lots of blood.
Trisha - Rarely appear in fights, but when she does, she wants you DEAD, period. Appears only to exact harsh vengeance on her enemies.

The other 6 personas almost never appear in combat because of their peaceful and non-combat "specialties", which wouldn't be appropriate. And due to Julie's textbook mentality on the formulation of plans, she can get really confused if things don't go as planned

Well ark already explained it better than I have, though I'd personally use a stretching rubber band and a little materials science to do it.

Like you said the output is flexible, so she can control her output to anywhere within her power ceiling, just like now you repeatedly stretch a rubber band within its range of elastic deformation. But once you get it to plastically deform, there is a permanent extension in length, which is how I see her going above her power ceiling.

Therefore power ceiling = elastic limit. :3 I got lazy.

And guys...personally the ARIA crack is a little too much for me lol. Well have fun.

A particular linker core, like a particular engine, can only potentially produce so much power. A engine with poor tuning will produce less, good tuning will bring out everything it has, and a damaged engine, insofar as it runs at all, has its output permanently reduced.

Quote:
Hmm viewing from that analogy it does make sense.

The main problem is that Nanoha already screwed up her core once with the Starlight Breaker overload, and she recovered from it eventually.
1) Back when Nanoha was beam-spamming left and right as a kid, at the very least, no one gave her a Limit Break that will actually allow her to go over 100. Thus, rather than actually getting broken, it is more getting prematurely worn out from too many high power cycles being placed on it.
2) Nobody really knows what the heck happened in that scene to the very end. The Linker Core obviously had something to do with the incident. But it is hard to tell what. Did the worn plant just do a "hiccup" (kind of like my god-darn sprained leg suddenly crapping out for a couple of seconds) at a bad time, thus giving that Type 4 Gadget an opportunity? Or was it a "boiler explosion?" Something in b/w. We don't know the extent of damage to the core.
3) Unlike now, Nanoha was placed in enforced bed rest due to her physical injuries, apparently for a fair period of time. That may have allowed mildly damaged parts to patch themselves. Now she's running her engines continuously, thanks to the fact she wasn't that badly injured.
4) It is not at all clear how well she actually recovered from the whole mess, or from previous abuses for the matter. It is clear she didn't become a cripple, either magically or physically. Beyond that we know squat. She might have blown 10% or more that day. The loss (and all others that may have accumulated as she overworked her plant) may have been "covered up" by the fact she was still growing at that time (now that she has completely or mostly finished growing at 19, such cover ups are not possible). She may already have re-trained to use "backups" during her rehabiliation, and now the new breakdowns crunched those as well and so on...

All we know is that this time, she has blown 8%, that it sure as heck it doesn't look like it is coming back and Nanoha is squandering any chance it'll come back by ignoring the doctor's advice and continuing to run her planet.

Nanoha didn't really lose her magical abilities, it has more to do with power-output and personally, it's kinda implied that she's reached her peak really.

And besides, SS04 said that even by resting 2 years away from magic, there's absolutely no guarantee she can recover from it. Training more is at least not going to do her absolutely any good, if it's not going to add to the wound.

I agree with this analogy. Else whatever SS04 really wouldn't make any sense.

The SLB screw-up, imo is closer to a constant rev of her output at 90% ~ 100%, putting strains, but nothing that cracks her core. She was at a more tender age that control over her full potential isn't all that powerful. Just because 100% is an option doesn't mean it's feasible, look what the long-term strain did to her when she got stabbed by a drone.

Blaster Mode is said to legitimately push beyond a mage's limit, as in over 100%.

It may be possible... if she rest 5 years. No magic whatsoever, just be a temporarily retired mother.

Else, canonically, she IS not going to get it back. Ever. Not with her schedule, choice of posting and attitude.

E-etto... Backlog surely pilled up due to a couple days of absence, one of them thanks to a power cut that lasted the entire day.

Anyway, I see some interesting stuff, especially the news of a new Slayers series. I didnt expect that to happen.

Well it tends to calm down during the weekend. But I think we should all know that can be rather unpredictable.

Oh man you make me feel like playing the entire series all over again. Though I must admit I also prefer KotoR I myself. Wonder if there'll ever be a KotoR III.

Jail does.
She likes smart guys then. Makes sense. Though I thought people believed in "opposites attract". (But maybe that only applies to certain polar opposites. )

I think I'll have to check out the old one too. I haven't started watching anime when Slayers was around, and strangely nobody recommended it to me. Then again, most people around me aren't interested in anime.

Have to cut this backlog as short as possible.

Edit: Just noticed FlameSparkz is back on the scene! Will....add into mountain of things to read... >.<'

As for Friediche, he's quite a monster now.
When introducing Erio, I felt that he must be introduced in the same way as StrikerS, with Sonic Move . Coupled with with enough dialogue to know that he's pissed, and then battle, and I think I did his intro justice. As for Limit Break, perhaps. Haven't decided how GAR I wanna make his default form before he has to bust out a limit break.

And Freidrich is indeed quite a beast. He's more of a true dragon now, not whatever that was during StrikerS.

Spoiler for Future Friedrich?:

I'm not sure how the idea of Lutecia and Caro looking similar came about, but IDEA LIKE

And of course, GARMONDIAL AND NIKOPOL DYNAMIC ENTRANCE FTMFW!!!!!!!

Hoping to see next chapter please
Glen/Emili dynamic is always fun for me to write, cause like I said earlier, it's like Shinji/Asuka with a little bit less tsun (but still enough for the awesome), and a little bit more dere.

And I'll be sure to retain as much GARMondial for the next part along with OFM dynamic.

Of course they did! Like Franz says, it's their "Big Damn Heroes" moment.

And it's not so much Lutecia/Caro/Erio as it is Erio/Harem, but that's another story.

And since when was Garyuu Yoda? Did he speak at all during the series?
Like I said, Garyuu's picked up a few tricks. Like reading, and speaking. As it so happens, Garyuu must be badass enough that he speaks like Yoda.

And I loved the flow of the battle, but I felt the part where Caro said summoning Garyuu being too convenient, and Yoda-Garyuu being a little weird. It felt unlike Caro, and Garyuu speaking is just
lol Glen and Emili's relationship is fun for me to write, like I said. Enough Shinji/Asuka undertones for me to keep it going.

As for the dialogue... oops. I didn't clarify enough. That was supposed to be Lutecia speaking, and she was mentioning that it'd be nice if Voltaire was here (my version of her is a wee bit cynical). And Yoda-Garyuu is, other than somewhat awesome, a little bit of crack. Just a little.

Crack is followed by a cracky response: May this actually mean that, for Keroko-chan to be able to synchronize with Neltharion's powers, she needs to become a he?

@Kagerou Man, I lost Alpha's links again due to the power cut. When are you going to update your Links List (the one with all your other works) with them? Its hard to keep asking you for the links every time.

Pretty much. Plus since each mode is just armor added onto Plat Form, he can switch to another mode after using Cast Off.
