I'm more concerned for my father. Not once have I ever seen him drink water, only opting for coke. He also smokes, so he's definitely doing himself no good. How come he hasn't...(I got no other way of softening the blow) just dropped dead?

For Japan's cellphone novelists, proof of success is in the print

I don't find drinking soft drinks or eating from McDonaldz fun. It is not just a matter of concern about health. It is also a personal preference. Quote:

To all you health junkies, I'm planning on out-living all of you. Genetics plays some role in how long and healthy we can live as well. Not to say smoking and drinking won't cut it down, but you could eat the healthiest foods in the world, and still drop dead of a heart-attack at 40.
I've got another 60 years easy. |

Cancer,Coke and the News Media
It seems every week some studies group or a 'think tank'(as they used to be called) releases something that just might KILL you if you eat to much of it or drink. To this I say "Oh Really"?!
Here's the thing I went to my doctor last year and had a full physical with blood work, she said "Tell me why is it a mother of 2 with God only knows how much stress on you is healthier than most of the 20 somethings I see"? I answered honestly "Doc I just don't sweat the small stuff". In other words as long as you can eat as healthy as you can(not too much fast food and such)eating in moderation ALL of the major food groups and get outside and do something like cut the grass or some activity you should do well. As to these 'studies groups' just remember that these same outfits said coffee and red meat and chocolate were bad for you only to REVERSE their findings later! In other words don't believe everything they tell ya,cause they don't know everything!! |

everything is bad for you if you eat too much. The key has always been moderation. balance diet and not too much of anything.
the fact that people needs to be told this is the real sad part. seems like common sense is no longer common.

Blame the media; few journalists [watch out for TRL's rebuttal!? ] know the science they're reporting, and there's a tendency to exaggerate or draw decisive statements out of preliminary conclusions. It comes with journalistic writing I suppose; too many if's and but's cut down on clarity and they can't afford that, even when the actual subject demands that there be no clarity yet. And yes, coke is bad. If you're drinking it as much as many Americans do. I know this because I know everything. Quote:
Also, you're sixteen. Many of us when we're young can carelessly coast through life just fine. Then karma comes back and everybody gets an epiphany at 30. [/me underweight too] |

I have a serious fetish for apple juice/drinks. Unfortunately, it can cause increased level of uric acid in the body (which leads to arthritis) and frequent diarrhoea. I once drank an entire 1.5L bottle of apple juice (made by myself, too lazy to measure out the sugar so added none) and had diarrhoea for the next 2 days. As for soda drinking, I think body resistance builds up over time. It shouldn't be any more different from training alcohol tolerance, just don't chug too much per week because the body needs time to flush out the excess sugar and such from the body. After all, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Quote:
These companies, in turn, help fund researches so they could have more avenues of health marketing. It eventually becomes a truly vicious cycle for the lazy who don't do research and just read those mags : I would bet less than 10% of the world population actually benefit physically and mentally from such researches with bowdlerised publications. Even if TRL makes some sort of rebuttal, it wouldn't even matter. I have seen a few local articles in our local news that is so sensationalised that it totally ignores scientific and logical sense. I.E : They published the article about Rapelay and calls it porn, and even imply that the game can be won by making the girls pregnant. But if they don't publish the article, nobody would buy their papers to read. Being well-informed means to inculcate a doubt in everything one reads, and constantly bait others for counter arguments so everyone actually learn something from the different sources they read from. Maybe this is the reason why the Japanese have such longevities. Probably a relation to the declining birth rates. P.S I am just joking around in the last part. Please don't shoot me.

Actually.... getting married and staying married is statistically a +5 year enhancement to your probable lifespan. Not being alone (staying very interactive) is also a lifespan enhancer. Staying active and participatory (feeling useful) is good as well.
Readers will note I did not say "don't drink colas" ... just choose what one eats and drinks more carefully. Gauge how much one is eating. Keep binging the system and there *will* be consequences. Besides, why do we want to reward "food" manufacturers for trying to fool us into buying their shit to eat? On the "feeling useful" -- very problematic for most Americans these days: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/20100...america-future Quote:

The "think of the children" and "lets call anyone under 25 "children" idiocies combine to make these crusaders look like utter fools. Modern day witchhunting... especially when they end up "burning" the children themselves (ref: phone pic child porn charged against under-agers)
