Isaac Asimov's Foundation Movie

Just heard (actually read) about this upcoming adaptation:

The movie will be directed by Emmerich, writing is from Robert Rodart, ans it will be shot in 3D.

A Trilogy is expected.

Asimov has always been hard to adapt to the visual medium.... neutral on the idea.

This thing would need a really big budget or else it'd look like one of those sci fi original movies.

How would that be a bad thing? Most original sci fi movies are better than what we have today. Isaac Asimov was a brilliant writer as well for one thing, and much of what you see in Star Wars is inspired by his writing, believe it or not. Something with a style reminiscent of 2001 Space Odyssey would be Superb.

I think he's talking about the American Sci-Fi (or Si Fi ... O.o) cable channel that often puts out C- rated little movies to fill the air time.
They brightly market/label them as "Sci Fi Original" :P (i.e. "we made this up over chilidogs and wrote the script on a napkin").

Yeah pretty much, although it's called SyFy (<-LOL?) now.

Given that it's handled by SONY and Emmerich in 3D, I'd say the budget is not the thing we should worry about, but rather into what they are gonna turn the story.

Well, no matter what they do, they're never going to satisfy the original fans of the books, so they're probably just going to try to appeal to the 'Avatar' crowd or something. Sucks, but that's how things are nowadays.

If this is handled the same way Bradbury's A Sound of Thunder was handled on the big screen, it should be quite good.

If it's another I, Robot though, I'm going to be very sad. -.-'
