Garo: Crimson Moon (Season two of the Garo series) Anticipation

Quote:
Producer Masao Maruyama announced at animation studio MAPPA's Otakon panel on Friday that the the second Garo: Honoo no Kokuin television anime series is slated for this October. Unlike the first Garo anime, this series will be a jidaigeki (period drama) set in the Heian period. It will have a female protagonist.
The second season of Garo is coming for Fall 2015. We are also getting a female main character as part of the story.

Tagline....
"A golden wolf that howls at the darkness of the Heian Era."

They don't care about the BD/DVD sales. IP owners of Garo are rich enough to pay all the expenses as long as they like what MAPPA is doing.

So this season will take place in the Heian Period, and will thus be set in Japan...I wonder if this season might explain how the Garo Armor changed hands between nations and nationalities?

That it will have a female protagonist is pretty interesting and awesome, though I'm curious if she'll be a Makai Priestess or just a normal person who gets dragged into the world of the Makai Knights and Horrors?

Really happy that we'll be getting more Garo Animation from Mappa, and can't wait to get more info about it .

Hum, maybe I should catch up with S1? I had to drop it because I had no time (even though I enjoyed it), but if there's a S2...

I really liked the series, although the ending isn't as strong as the middle episodes(which were really good in terms of character development), it still has a solid finish. Dunno what ep you stopped on, but I'd say its at least its worth getting back into up to ep 20.

Honestly though, I don't think they'll be any direct correlation between s1 and s2; maybe a few nods, but I'd imagine with the setting and new protagonists, you'd probably not need to watch s1 at all to watch s2(esp since even in s1, they glossed over details that general Garo watchers would already know).

Yes, you should finish it. I think I enjoyed second half much more then the first one.

I hope the team @ MONACA (especially Keiichi Okabe) are back for this, Gaia's theme, so godlike....

Thanks, I'll finish it then (hopefully in time for S2...). I stopped somewhere in the middle (during Leon's stint at the farm), looking forward to the rest.

Garo is an established franchise. The shows have been using the same timeslot for years now (this new season will replace the live action one currently airing), and disc sales never mattered indeed, not to mention they have consistent ratings and it sells expensive adult merchandise.

So I finished S1, and you were right, it was awesome. I really hope that S2 will manage to be at least this good!

I know right? This is why I'm happy for Season 2 if they can maintain (or even improve) the quality they had in Season 1. And I'll be buying those show-based Garo figures (if they ever being released) to support the franchise .

Heian period... does that mean this would take place before or after the first season? Assuming the two are even set in the same universe.

Hopefully a Makai Priestess, having a damsel in distress as the MC would not be interesting nor fitting for Garo.

Before, unless they decide to throw any semblance of actual real world history out of the window. The Heian period is basically mid-to-early-high Middle Ages in Europe, from the outfits, architecture, etc. season 1 looked like it was supposed to be set later.

The first Garo series has that in the form of Kaoru so damsel in distress isn't really out of theme for Garo.
