One Piece - Chapter 894 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread GuidelineBriefs
Time for those sweet spoilers! Credit goes to AP's Redon for the info: -Chapter title is "0:05". The ministory involves Leo's crew being selected as the King Riku's escort to the Reverie! -The chapter begins with Luffy having yet another flashback to his training with Rayleigh. He has trouble using observation haki properly, so Rayleigh punishes him with no dinner. Ray later explains that CoO can be used to sense the emotions of living beings, and that the most advanced experts can gain slight glimpses into the future. Upon being asked how he will handle such opponents, Luffy answers that it depends on the person. Interestingly, Rayleigh seems surprised that his pupil chose to take his opponent's personality into consideration. Back in the present, Luffy's battle with Katakuri continues. At first, the rubber man is able to dodge the commander's attacks, but eventually the two of them start trading blows. Katakuri even literally shoots his fist at his opponent, and regenerates his arm afterwards. However, soon Luffy is able to land a clean hit on his foe. -Out at sea, Capone's group nearly reaches Liqueur Island, but Chiffon suggests changing course to Fluffy Island instead. That way, even if Big Mom regains her senses after eating the cake, the Straw-Hats should have escaped by then. Speaking of BM, she's become even thinner than before... -Back to the Sunny, the Straw-Hats are escaping from Smoothie, who has grown as huge as a giant! Carrot, who's awake now, asks about Luffy, but Chopper asks her if the two leaders of Zou, Inuarashi and Nekumamushi, are also capable of the full moon transformation. Later, Sanji and Pudding split from the Sunny group to search for Luffy. Pudding is worried about the rubber man's chances of escaping with all the forces gathering to annihilate him, but Sanji is confident that he can save his captain from certain doom. -Back at Cacao Island, Oven has more of his siblings gathered there.... and among them is the former Sweet Commander, the 25th son of the Charlotte family, Snack! Snack has a 600 million bounty on his head. Meanwhile, back in the mirror world, an exhausted Luffy is once again lying on the floor. It's 0:05, meaning there's less than an hour left until the scheduled meeting time. When Katakuri asks him if this is his limit, the rubber man gets up once more, saying that he intends to end the battle now. He then activates Gear 4..... SNAKE MAN. Can't wait to see the design of Snake Man, and what it can do.
I don't remember what was said about him, but I imagine he was forced to spin the wheel and got fairly lucky. That seems to be how Big Mom does things.

Posting 2 weeks in a row. I must be on a roll. Anyway two things from the synopsis:
1) Luffy has another form of Gear 4. Fairly obvious, but he must really believe in its power if he thinks it will end the battle. 2) Rayleigh's words about observation haki make it appear as if Katakuri is displaying the absolute limits of what it can do. This seems to suggest that further on in the story we will see other CoO users at the same level as Katakuri but not better than him. I wonder if some people will be disappointed with this revelation, that perhaps they were hoping for more. However at this point in time Rayleigh is the foremost authority on haki and until someone shows up with more knowledge on the subject than him, we'll have to take his words as final for now. |

I'm very curious to see how Oda will handle Luffy's new mastery of CoO. I hope it will be something that will matter a lot for the rest of the story. Rather than the glimpses of the future, I'm rather intrigued by the ability to sense the emotions of living beings, and if it's related to the "voices" Roger could hear, an ability Luffy already displayed on an animal IIRC. I'm thinking it may not be limited to living beings, and it can be used to gain knowledge of the past as well, hence how Roger could tell the content of the Poneglyphs.

I laughed more than I should have when Luffy wrecked Rayleigh's food and he haki'd up that stick to smack him around. Luffy sensed the rage, which later gets pointed out as him being adept at sensing emotion (sort of like how Fujitora did when he noticed none of the citizens of Dressosa had rage towards Luffy). And their fight is getting so epic they're wrecking the mirror dimension.

Well, i didn't expect Leo and his crew will be chosen as the escort for King Riku. I guess they will be assigned into special operations at Reverie then.
Still, this is quite a dragged out fight. I wonder how Sanji and Germa are be able to pull this thing off not to mention that Germa has yet to arrive. We know that if Straw Hat Pirates are failed to escape then their mission is a failure. |

My, my.... Leo's going to the Reverie, too? Well now, that most certainly piques my interest (as does anything pertaining to the Reverie!). In that case, I wonder if he'll consider taking the Tontatta king and Mansherry along, as well? Not only would they represent their race, but remember that they too have a connection to Dressrosa's former dynasty (that is, the Donquixote family before they left to form the WG), so they may have interesting info to share at the meeting, as well....
Anyways, checking out Snack's design.... man, he looks weird. He's also muttering about the "worst generation", so I guess his loss to Urouge is still fresh on his mind. I assume Germa will come along and take care of all the forces awaiting Luffy's return? That's the only solution that makes the most sense to me. Actually, on the subject of Germa..... I wonder if they'll end up going to the Reverie, too? Judge was counting on borrowing Big Mom's power, but now that she turned on him, he doesn't seem to have many options left. He could return to the WG (where Germa already has a bad enough reputation to begin with, literally being comic book villains and all), or he could just stay underground and continue his mercenary business, I guess. Come to think of it, is returning to the WG even an option at this point? An undercover CP0 agent was present at the wedding after all (who even witnessed the attempted execution), and she's obviously going to report everything that happened to her superiors, so Judge may be screwed in the end, after all. I'd almost feel bad for the guy if he weren't such a douche who mistreated Sanji for so many years, heh. |

Huh, so there are different versions of Gear 4. Interesting... Luffy's ability to sense the emotions of living things might also be something he's been unconsciously using the entire manga. It would explain how he's such a good judge of character.
Also, seeing Big Mom this thin keeps bringing that witch from Looney Tunes to mind. |

She would have had the cake already by the time they got to Liquor Island, but Chiffon wanted to lure Big Mom over to Fluffy Island instead to ensure the Straw Hats don't have the now thinner than before behemoth going after them.
Of course, Bege might have a slightly easier chance to kill her if she gets any thinner. Does her durability tie into how engorged she stays? And looking at Katakuri now, he isn't really as hideous as Flambe makes him out to be. Still easy on the eyes, gnarly fangs be damned; they're manly looking anyways. Snack, on the other hand... ... I really don't even know what I think of Snack anymore. He might be hiding his face under what I assume is his hat, though I'd be disappointed if that was actually his head there. Then again, a fair chunk of the Charlotte family have abnormal-looking appearances so this shouldn't be a surprise anymore. |

I was waiting for Luffy to go into fourth gear but Oda still exceeded my expectations. Never expected Luffy to have different forms of fourth gear so now I am curious how many they will be, probably 1 for any type of monster he fought on that island(gorilla, snake and so on).
On another note, I LOLed really hard when Rayleigh hitted Luffy with that stick with his Haki haven't laughed like that for a while now |

You know, Id really like Luffys gear fourth form to destroy Dogtooth off-screen, saved for future attempts like Gear Three preview. If he cant even beat Dogtooth as what he is now, how in hell can he move towards an emperor? How can they improve his combat style further for Kaido or Linlin, with highest limit being trained by right hand man of Pirate King? My only guess is to take main story of void century further and come up with another special upgrade like Haki. Something that D people had and most likely getting its practice forbidden by World Government centuries ago.
