I've got a small question about this anime...is this show similar to Azumanga Daioh or to Pani Poni Dash (which is the same studio ironically.)?

While it has some of the same visual quirks as Pani Poni Dash, I would not say that it is really much like either of them. Except for the fact it takes place in a school. It has a pretty dark and ironic sense of humor while the other two shows are rather upbeat.

definitely pani poni
even the rabit was in despair

and it doesn't feel like azumanga dai-oh at all.

& same director, though you'll find that Shaft/Shinbo works over the past couple of years carry the same of wacky style --- just look at ef - a tale of memories.

i've seen both pani poni and azumanga, sayonara zet sensei is different from those series. azumanga is more slice of life comedy with a genius kiddie student who skipped levels, but its the one who's grom osaka who steals the show. paniponi more radical than azumanga with the kiddy genius teacher teaching slightly older students. This show has no kiddie genius just one weird gloomy teacher and even weirder bunch of students...and fanservice every episode. lol...i think i'm missing something

Yea, I'm also currently watching Pani Poni Dash and it has a very unique style of animation and story telling. ef - a tale of memories has also caught my eye and I didn't even know that it was from the same studio as well.
I was just curious because its set at a school and the main character is a teacher and its labeled as a comedy series. So I had the thought of the show being similar to either Pani Poni Dash or Azumanga Daioh...but I guess its pretty different...oh wells, I'm off to watch the first episode then.

In episode 5, after they all get detoxed, what happens to Kafuka?



She's in the bath before, but she doesn't show up again until they re-toxify.

Obviously nothing happens to Kafuka since she never had any toxins to start with. Every girl has a quirk and her quirk is the utter lack of toxicity. I guess she was just on the other side of the room when that picture was taken. Maybe she was holding the camera.

The only person that was not changed after the "detox" was the Nami Hito, the "normal girl."

Still, one cannot help to wonder whether Kafuka's super optimism is a toxin. I think it can go both ways.

I think the answer is that the author simply don't know what Kafuka's detox version is . Even the manga skips Kafuka's part in the detox chapter and only shows her pushing Itoshiki Sensei to the pool.

Incidentally, Maria-chan's detox version was also not shown in both manga and anime.

I remember when the raw orginally aired someone asked about Fuura and I think we figured she'd just go switch from overly optimistic to pessimistic But her quirk is overly optimistic set in roots of massive denial.

Fuura is interesting but in the detox epi, Im glad she wasnt shown, since the other girls quirks were easier to show. Obv Maria's wouldnt be shown since her quirk is buying her name from the box boy

Ah, I see. I also considered that she might've dissapeared or something. She seems a bit strange sometimes, like at the end of episode 4 ("Let's all express our feelings").

As for Maria, they showed her drinking milk. Was there some significance to that?

No, they've shown her drinking beer - Itoshiki was just making a cover-up. And therein lies the social satire.
