Finally, I finished reading the entire thread minus the genderbent novels themselves.

That was 204 pages in 2 days, i read 65 last week before I returned to camp.

I saw now proceed to actual participation, which will sadly last only another 2 days, before I'll be gone for more than a month. Where through my estimation, it will be another 300 - 400 pages to catch up by then.

It was an insanely fun read.

Is she actually saying the snark or just thinking it? Having her just thinking something snarky rather than saying it out loud might help tone it down a bit without needing to do a lot of rewriting. Kyon manages to snark to himself on just about everything Haruhi says without coming across as a jerkass.

If she's just thinking it and you still think she's coming across badly.. I think I'd like to read what you've written before you change it just to see how mean she is. ^^

Actually this was one thing I as planning on trying to get started, currently toying around a little bit with the software and such. ... One of the main reasons why I mentioned it in my one post. And I like that particular software because it is cross platform, will run on Windows, OSX, and Linux. Also the capabilities within the engine itself is pretty decent. I gave some thought as to how the thing itself would come together, and I had the idea of, since normally in visual novels your main character isn't really visible at all, but what fun is it without displaying kyonko? And I remembered a thing that they did in fortune arterial, and likely others, with character images being by the the text. We could use that area to show images of kyonko of how she is reacting and such. And it is possible within the engine, I checked. Also what could be possible is making liberal use of pans of the image backgrounds in case we have more than 3 or whatever characters in any one scene, so we could have it look a little more dynamic with scenes between larger groups of characters. What does everyone think of that. It should really only take me a couple days to get up to speed on renpy, I'm a pretty fast learner on these sorts of things. Also I can do tedious ... I run gentoo linux for crying out loud...

I still have to catch up on the six-or-so most recent pages, but if we're going through with this visual novel that I saw brought up, I'd be willing to do the character art (unless you already have some). I prefer drawing just characters by themselves and whatnot (too lazy/unmotivated to do anything more involved, haha), so this would be perfect for me. 8D

(Apologies if, within the six pages I haven't read yet, you've decided that visual novel is a BAD IDEA.)

And I drew a random sketch of Kyonko while I was in class today. Except the proportions are awful and she looks very un-Kyonko (thus the mini Kyonko on the side looking less than impressed).

Kyon has the exact same traits. Though he's externally polite, he's not very nice in his monologues, especially to T&K, who he refers to as "idiots".

And yet Kyon is still a very likeable character.

I haven't really had time this week to do much playing around with renpy, due to exams and such, but I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible to produce a kinetic novel using it, actually kicked around the idea a few days ago, seeing what would occur if I just copied and pasted the prologue into it, though without images it fell a little flat. But I think the format itself would work pretty well for it, and would breathe a bit of life so to speak into the novel itself. Not sure though, was planning on sifting through all the fan art and picking out some stuff to test it, but you guys sort of forced my hand...

I must agree with beanbrew for the presence of pics is one of the factors that gets this thread going. If we have to post pics in a separate thread, the momentum and motivation for this thread would drop and could in turn affect the project itself.

We could have it SRW-style. Like the recent OGs and OGG. Character images with the accompanying text. One left, followed by one right. And while most images are drawn with one orientation, the other side can just be flipped.
