This is what I have been waiting for since I heard this was being made into an anime and for the most part it did not disappoint. I was a bit surprised by the VA choice for Asura since I had been expecting something deeper, but it did end up fitting with his madness though I liked when he was talking normally as well. Shinigami's change in voice was nice as well and I was not entirely expecting it. I liked how the battle between the two was extended since I felt the battle in the manga was a bit too short.
Little sad they didn't keep the bit with Medusa intact, but oh well. Next episode looks good with the introduction of some characters I was looking forward to meeting. I'm curious where the plot will go from here given that this would be the prime time to deviate from the manga if that is their intention. I also loved the scene with the kids running away from Shinigami and him looking all sad for some reason.

You know quite personally I like little deviatiions from the manga.
The fact that the killing blow on Medusa wasn't as gory didn't bother me that much, nor did the absence of the laugh. Gotta remember guys that the original broadcast time is for kids |

Yeah, bet it'd destroy Asura but annihilate the earth in the process. Way to go, Shinigami and Spirit...
Seriously though...maybe the reason why Shinigami couldn't kill Asura the first time round was because he didn't have a Weapon to amplify his soul wavelength? As I've said elsewhere, the seal does strike me as 'last resort' territory, particularly seeing as Shinigami has no problem whatsoever with killing his enemies or having them killed. Hm.. I think I've become way too spoiled with the manga. Before I read the manga, I thought soul eater (anime) was da shiz. But with every episode now which I've read the manga before hand, it just doesn't seem as good. I think it's the little things. Like scenes in the manga which were awesome to me just didn't have the same impact in the anime. Recent ones I can think of are:
Spoiler for ep. 24:
Basically in almost all those scenes, the manga gave me a dark/chilling/intense feel to it, and in the anime none of that translated, it all just felt kinda "meh" So yeah, I know I'm being nit picky. I'm sure if I never read the manga, the anime would be really good. I think a lot of it has to do with the art/the manga being black and white/the dialogue differences. ....yar |

Interesting, I think the excact opposite for the most part. Namely cause of the taught direction and excellent improvement on Ookubo's design ideas. The fight to prevent Kishin's revival, the rivival itself and the Shinigami/Kishin fight were MUCH more engaging in anime form. However, I think the "fatigue" is more so due to the fact that at it's heart, the shonen narrative is so flimsy, it doesn't hold up to such frequent reexperiences.
