Have to say this is by far the best episode yet in all of brotherhood in my opinion. I loved every minute of it. Well actually ep 19 and this one are tied for first place for me lol.
Good episode! I felt things were a little forced though. I would have preferred if that story was told a little at a time instead of all at once. My theory of Hohenheim and Father coming from the same body was a little right. At first I think the young guy was Father and he was victimized by the Homunculus, glad that wasn't the case, otherwise it would have sucked.
And -1 on the epilogue. I really don't like when there is more after the ED.
agreed its a good eps, a short flashback and we get to understand more about the origin of the Homunculus and the mystery of the city that got wiped out
Wow, lots of background info this episode, very cool. and yay Izumi. I'm not sure how these air in Japan, with respects to commercials, but if they put one after the credits but before the "Next episode recap" I think it gets people to stick around through the commercials to see if there will be that extra little epilogue
Good episode but the pacing felt a little clunky to me. I wish they had started with young Hoenhiem and then had the Roy and Riza scene at the end instead. Just IMO but the middle commercial break felt really out of place to me and moving things around probably would've fixed that (also sad they had to cut the scene where Hoenhiem is teaching the other slaves to read and write, it helped show that he has friends as well as complete strangers trapped in his body and makes it even more poignant).
Anyway, I picked up on a few lines here that I never did in the manga, like how the Homoculus said "Finally, I can walk on my own two legs" (sound familiar anyone?) and the parallels between Ed's search for the stone and his father's past were more obvious here. So, good episode, more please!
Fav part in this episode has to be the meet-up between Olivier and Roy.
The flashback was very nice, felt a little dumbed down. Could have been more horrifying, I felt. but they never explained how the homunculus came to be in that flask in the first place.
What exactly do you want to know the formula he used? The exact steps he took? They said he came about accidentally when the Master was experimenting with Hohenheim's blood. What else do you want to know?
So, we have reached the beginning to the final trek of this story.
I, finally, got the chance to see another of my favorite plot points of the manga.

The flashback dream starting with "Father" (a.k.a. Homunculus) and ending with Hohenheim answered many questions as to their origin, the ploy of Immortality, and the fall of Xerxes.
Homunculus is a nearly perfect, logical creature that way back from its beginning showed absolutely no sense of compassion and regret at all for any other life forms, including Humans in particular.
He used Hohenheim from the day both met, however, held a lingering feeling of debt and gratitude due that it was Hohenheim's blood used for its creation.
Homunculus's purpose was alluded in this episode as to be a guide or source to consult for knowledge, knowledge out of scope from Human understanding. Nevertheless, it shared its basic knowledge to its only blood relative for two reasons:
1) It was Homunculus's reasoning as to act according to the 'Law of Equivalent Exchange'. Hohenheim gave his blood for its creation, hence, Homunculus gave Hohenheim his current name.
2) Homunculus didn't teach Hohenheim its knowledge about alchemy merely out of a sense of gratitude. Everything in the world has a price and becomes deadlier to be misinformed or not knowing about the consequences of ones' actions incurring in sacrifices.
Homunculus masterminded Xerxes's fall from that fated meeting with the slave boy and onwards. Its desire was to be freed; to gain its independence; to leave that wretched flask; to own its independent existence.
It took advantage of King Xerxes's despair and greed for Immortality to have the King and his subjects do all the dirty bidding for it. It tricked both the King and Hohenheim by concealing the key information about the needed sacrifices to activate the transmutation circle's configuration, and, lastly, all the lives of the people of Xerxes that were sacrificed in order for both it and Hohenheim to become living Philosopher Stones.
Now, we know that "Father" (Homunculus) gained its current form just as Hohenheim did, and all the regrets and pain he contributed to make it happen.
The present timeline seems to head to a path of doom, because "Father" again has magnificiently played its part at deceiving (again) this time Central's military echelons, since the history of Amestris founding.
The first time "Father" opened the gate was to acquire a body of its own, and now it'll repeat history by achieving it a second time but for what purpose?

Yes, That would be nice. It's not like his master could have created that homunculus from Hohenheim's blood through any normal experiment. It would've been nice to know if this somehow involved the gate and where he received this knowledge in the first place.
it was cool episode, but it seems as if they crammed a whole lotta things into a single episode. I dont know why, but the first series of FMA seemed to be more exciting! may be its because I watched the first one already that Im starting to get bored with this one.
