Anime with Tragic or Bitter Sweet ending
Ok I'm looking for animes that has a tragic or bitter sweet(with a bit more emphasized on the bitter part) ending. But I don't want the tone of the anime to be overly grim, dark or depressing just a good amount of it. It something like Chrono Crusade, Guilty Crown, Valvrave or Gurren where like supporting characters that close to the MCs died and MC themselves/love interest or both can also died.

Air.
An oldie but a goodie in my opinion. You have a MAL account or something like that we could look at so we do not suggest something you may have already seen?

I skipped a lot of these anime because I used to dislike them, so the chance are most of animes beside the ones I listed above will be animes that I never saw so list them away! Also highly preferred if it can make me cried.

Air, Kanon and Clannad all do that to me something fierce, even on several re-watches. Except for Air the other two do not necessarily have sad endings per se, but strong and powerful sad scenes (though there are plenty who do not like them). Also, the little known Kowarekake no Orgel OVA is a strong candidate in my opinion.

I have seen one too many I think,
Blood+ NANA FMA, FMA: Brotherhood Berserk - Watch this one last if, you're making a list. I don't think you will be able to stomach anything after the finale. GunXSword - ending's taste can vary based on the person. Fate Zero Blassreiter - the show is legit mediocre but, it fits your criteria. I can't quantify the amount of grim/dark/depressing that these shows will contain that meets your benchmark. So, all I can say is try them for a few episodes and see if you want to continue.

If you haven't seen it already: Cowboy Bebop you can't go wrong with this one. Trigun animation wise is not very good and it hasn't aged well, but it has very strong emotional themes if you can resist until the later episodes. Code Geass: It seems that a lot of persons didn't like the ending because it wasn't really a good ending at all. Personally I liked it. Bokurano: Honestly the anime adaption made the ending a lot more "happy" than it is in the manga, but it's not like everyone lived happily thereafter either. Far from that... Madoka Magica: Another title that is very high in the appreciation ranking and that fits your criteria. (how come it wasn't mentioned already?)

Ga-Rei Zero - still makes me depressed
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom Air Angel Beats AnoHana Code Geass Hakuouki - recommend to start with prequel Love Live! School Idol Project - maybe? While the ending is not exactly depressing, the whole build up in season 2 was pretty emotional. As long as you are attached to the characters that is. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo - pretty emotional ending in my opinion Shinsekai yori - bitter-sweet ending I guess... it is positive but when you consider how many died and etc... White Album 2 - if 100% romance/drama series count

______ Does it really have to involve a death? Because if you're looking for depressing and bittersweet, there's always Welcome to the NHK... Also, if you don't mind if I recommend manga, try All You Need is Kill, or if you like oldies, Devilman (no, I don't particulary like Go Nagai, but Devilman in spite of it's many errors, it's still good).
