I said earlier in this thread... that there would be some potential...

I love fanservice... but this show is hurting in terms of an interesting story... after 3 episodes... it's just so crappy and full of bullshit... there needs to be more violence like Ikkitousen... that way I can overlook the shitty-ness that is supposed to be the plot...

Just saw episode 3. There was none of the promise that the first episode had, just really skimpy outfits. I'll at least admit that this show is different in one respect. Instead of constantly pushing breasts at the camera, the director keeps the animators busy drawing close-ups of barely covered asses. When the two of them got into their fighting outfits Shizuka said to Maia, "you watch the rear." I almost lost it.

There is very little chance that I'll be watching episode 4.

I agree. I too was almost desperately looking for something good in episode 3 storywise, but it just isn't there. However, I think I'll give the show one more episode to start to do something besides show ridiculous outfits. For some reason, I'm reluctant to let the show go. I think you're right, the first episode did show a lot of promise. So, I'll get #4, then make my final decision to keep or drop it.

Hopefully, considering that it's a 24 ep series (I think), the plot will have some time to develop.

However, I wouldn't mind some plot RIGHT NOW (i.e. ep.4) to spice things up.

Hopefully ep.4 will give some spice to us, at least in terms of character development. The new 'money-maniac' seems like an interesting character...

I've given up on this. It took a lot for me to even download 3 let alone even think about getting 4. It puzzles me that it looks to have 24 episodes as well. I really can't think of where this could go by episode 24.

Welll... just got around to watching the first episode, based on Jasc's rave review of the show.

I dunno, I guess my taste in anime is the exact opposite of his, as the biggest plus I found with the show was its cute, yet kinda unusual character designs.

The shoddy animation, the unrealistic underwater sound effects (unrealistic in that they didn't sound at all to be underwater), the tired and overused "nameless thug and thug's thuggy brother threaten main character" stock situation, and the needlessly excessive fanservice all turned me off before any chance of plot or characterization could draw me in.

I'm sure plenty of people can overlook these flaws, or maybe not see them as flaws at all (there was a time when I would have said there is no such thing as "too much fanservice"). But for me, I don't think it's really my cup o' tea.

Ah well. There's still Mousou Dairinin out there to possibly keep me interested in the current anime season. ^_^

Hehe... I probably sound kind of poser joining in with the general "anti-DIBB" stance taken on by many posters, but eh, if that's the way I feel...

I'm giving this up till ep FIVE. Because it's a nice round number.

I'm still hanging on by a thread of interest because Maia said at... the preview for the next ep or something, something about "My goal is still the Ocean Agency!"... or something like that.

I don't know if it's a coincidence or a worrying trend when both Cosmopolitan Prayers (if I'm not wrong) and Daphne in the Brilliant Blue both include people stripping to fight. Gah.

Actually, I think the office wear are much nicer than the battle costume. They should have used that through out the whole show. But even then, it might not be able to save the show's lackluster story.

Btw... I dropped Cosmopolitan Prayers right after the first episode, so Daphne in the Brilliant Blue is somewhat better...

Yes, their 'normal' clothes are far better than the battle outfits -_-... they're so skimpy it looks stupid, not sexy =/

so far ep1 was by far the best =/... tho ep4 was way better than ep3 (probably cauz I just like the new char tho...)

hopefully after the final char's introduced in ep5 they'll get the plot moving, else it may turn out to be quite a letdown after the great ep1...

It's like they mixed together Stellvia, Kiddy-Grade, and GetBackers and Mermaid Melody pichi-pichi-puchi-puri-poke-pitch, carefully removed any redeeming features of each show, and threw in Honda Toru wearing a Babarella costume for good measure. Heck, even the name seems wrong - I propose...

"Maiya in the Mediocre Maxi-pad!"

HA HA HA HA...that cracked me up. I've watched up to episode 4, and it does have elements of all the shows you've listed. Maybe they thought throwing that much old ideas in blender, and mix it, it'll taste new and fresh? Damn it, add me into the "Hate the battle outfits" club. Why the hell would they want to fight in tiny bikinis? And it's not just that, the outfits are ugly. And oh those ass shots...ooofff, very unnecessary.

Just saw episode 4 out of some faint hope that this show would finally return to what I thought I saw in episode 1. I was hoping that it would finally show more promise than skin. I figured I could overlook those costumes and close-up butt-shots in hope that this show would be worth watching.

Worst episode yet. That's 20 minutes of my life I am never getting back. Pointless silly slapstick nonsense. It's whole point seemed to be that the new character is so hopelessly violent and greedy that she is the author of her own misfortunes. (As opposed to Maia who is just hapless.)

I just deleted all 4 episodes without burning them. (Totally without regret.) I'm never watching another episode of this show again. Maybe I'll check back at this thread once in a while to see if people say that the show is looking up.

So many peple are completely, totally, missing the point!

Yes, the first few eps could be seen as not all that great. Personally I don't mind them. The costumes - while silly, I think that also is part of the point - they say - "Hey! don't you dare take us seriously viewers!"

Now then, first five episodes = intro five main characters. Therefore, first five episodes = less than the actuall plot and story of the rest of the show because all ellements are not introduced into the mix yet. It is obvious they are trying to form a "scoobie gang" and that they are showing us each member with an episode devoted to them. (Granted ep two didn't show a lot of Rena, but with her, there wasn't the need). They perhaps approached it wrong, because this has weakened the first few eps of the show considerably, but I would definitely say that it would be worth going for ep 6, or preferbably ep 7 or 8, at the verry least. Because the REAL story can't even start untill they have all five girls in the mix.

Only one question...
How many times does Maia say "Ano..." in one ep?. Better, let's count all the ano's of four eps...
My GOD!!! Don't you have anything else to say!!??

From the beginning the writers put some effort into making the character of Maia appear to have an obvious flaw...she's led a sheltered life and is naive in the ways of the world. Which might be the reason behind why she was not admitted to the Agency in spite of her supposedly having very high test scores. So in order for her character to grow and eventually become the kind of person that the Agency was interested in, first the writers needed to have Maia join Neres (kind of like sending her to a finishing school) and work with the streetwise women there.

I agree that "Ano..." is REALLY REALLY annoying after the 300th time Maia says it...but I also can understand, because I know that if I were thrown in that situation I'd probably be saying "uhhh..." a lot as well. The voice just gets annoying after a while cuz it's high

That being said I like it sufficiently to give it unil 8 or 9 to develop a plot. However, having said that, if it keeps along hte lines of dumb fanservice, i'll just not watch it. Somehow, I have a hunch that this one will pick up though.

Ano... From the Op...ano... it looks like there will be ano... another fanservice character so...ano... I think ano... after they add all the ano... girls...ano...they might ...ano..have a few side plots...ano...and the story will...ano...take off around ep 18 or so... It's classic 24 ep ano... anime.

I ...ano... will guess that ...ano...around ep 10...ano... Maia will see ...ano... her friend...ano... and will ...ano.... have to explain her ...ano... situation

Gesh. The writers must have had a pain to write all those ...ano... into the ...ano...script..

The point "peple" are making is that they don't have all winter to wait for this show to get a grip on its own storyline, or even cough up a likable character. Meanwhile the production values are nothing to rave about.

"or even cough up a likeable character."

That's the biggest problem in a nutshell. Thank you babbito2k. If I just liked one of the characters this show would become tolerable.
